This is a hidden gem in the 2nd floor of Big Box at Jurong East (JE). Located inside In and Out Cafe, Enishi serves various Japanese set meals and dons. They are cooked by authentic Japanese chefs.
The chefs came straight from Japan to Singapore to carve a career here. 20 years of experience working for 4-5 stars hotels and top restaurants, a passion for food and some unique family recipes.
It's a self service system at the cafe. Food is ordered from the cashier and receipt given to the chef for food preparation. We ordered 4 dishes and waited abt 10mins before all were served. We had the following:
1. Takoyaki - a popular side dish among Singaporeans. 3 octopus ball freshly fried and garnished with spring onions and bonito flakes. Not the best takoyaki balls but still good enough to stomach and ask for more than 2 balls per person.
2. Nanban chicken - fried chicken with special Japanese sauce. There was a generous portion of shredded cabbage as side dish. The chicken was a little tough but overall still acceptable in terms of taste.
3. Fried udon - we love this dish the best. Udon fried with generous portions of vegetables and chicken pcs. Lots of onions and it tasted so good. Udon was springy too.
4. Pork katsu don - fried pork cutlet in eggs topped on rice. Pork was surprisingly tender and comes with a bowl of miso soup.
Enishi is a nice Japanese stall to visit in Big Box and there are ample seats for everyone. We could enjoy our food slowly without having to rush off.
We will be back at the cafe to try the western food portion thus do stay tuned for our next review.
