It was our first time visiting the new renovated Kopitiam at Tiong Bahru Plaza.

The foodcourt was slightly more spacious as compared previously and it was decorated with a slight nostalgic feel.

We were there for a quick dinner today and ordered the following dishes for dinner:

1. Saba fish and chicken hotplate set for me - the dish wasn't sizzling hot when served to me. The saba fish was crispy on the outside and meat very fresh but overall a little dry as there weren't any gravy from the fish or chicken. Definitely prefered the stall at Clementi coffeeshop (http://paulinmunchies.blogspot.com/2016/11/korean-food-varinice-eating-house.html). Rating: 3/5

2. Old cucumber soup from Lao Bao Tang - the soup was very rich and full of ingredients. Soup was boiled for long hours and the ingredients were fresher than the ones served by 老火汤 (Lao Bao Tang). The pumpkin rice however was hard and not as good. Rating: 3.1/5
Korean Cuisine & Lao Bao Tang at Kopitiam Tiong Bahru Plaza

There are many other choices to choose from and we should be back to try the frangrant hotpot next. So stay tuned!

Ding Ji, part of Fei Siong Group, has 39 outlets in Singapore. Ding Ji's specialty is its teochew style noodles like fishball noodles and minced pork noodles with mushroom, also known as bak chor mee. Their fishballs are known for its softness and delicacy.

We were at their Jurong East outlet today to give the noodles a try. Kevin had their signature noodle. The signature noodles come in generous portion of ingredients like fishball, fried scallop, ngoh hiang, fish cake, minced pork and braised mushroom.

Paulin's Munchies - Ding Ji at Jurong East - Fishball noodles

Noodles were cooked to the right texture but was a little dry. Overall flavoring so tasty and delicious. I ordered their mini wok noodle. The mini work had similar ingredients like their signature noodle but missing the fried scallop.

Paulin's Munchies - Ding Ji at Jurong East - Mini Pot Noodles

It was substituted with crabmeat stick instead. Soup was tasty and flavoring for mee pok well done as well.

Ding Ji is indeed a convenient stall for delicious fishball noodles at affordable price.

OSG stands for Our Simple Goodness. It is a bar located at the North wing of Suntec City Mall. We stumbled upon this bar via Eatigo as it was offering dinner menu at 50% discount at 6pm. The bar offers live music and entertainment after 10pm.

The bar was small, with very limited seats indoor. The tables are mainly 2 seater high tables with chairs, thus may not be suitable for large crowds. Looking at the menu, we went for the following recommendations:

1. Ayam Panggang - grilled chicken thigh served with ah char and plain rice. The grilled chicken thigh was very well done. Tenderly grilled with the right skin crispiness. Ah char was ok but the rice was undercooked and hard. Rating: 3.5/5
Paulin's Munchies - OSG Bar+ at Suntec City Mall - Ayam Panggang

2. Crab and prawn spaghetti - spaghetti cooked with crab meat sauce. We had high expectations for this dish as it was supposedly to have soft shell crab. But when the dish came, there was no crab. The crab meat was in the sauce but no soft shell crab. After clarification, it seems that there was a discrepancy in the menu and actual food served. The menu should be corrected to avoid misunderstanding. Rating: 3/5
Paulin's Munchies - OSG Bar+ at Suntec City Mall - Crab and prawn spaghetti

3. Belado kacang panjan - fried long beans with sambal chilli. But think it was more of fried long beans in chilli sauce. The dish was sweet instead of the spicy. Rating: 2.8/5

Overall, we were quite disappointed with their food quality. Portion was not big and price would be very steep without the Eatigo offer.

Nothing beats a cup of ice blend on such a scorching hot afternoon. We are at NEX Japanese street and here we are chilling out at the Green Pumpkin bakery cafe.

We looked through their menu and was wondering what was yuki latte. Yuki actually means ice-blend in Japanese. This was something new. We ordered a cup of toffee crunch yuki latte to try.
Paulin's Munchies - Green Pumpkin Japanese Bakery Cake at NEX Serangoon - Toffee crunch Yuki Latte

Unlike Starbucks and coffee bean, you could taste the sips of coffee latte every mouthful. The ice blend seems separated from the coffee. Its not as sweet as other ice blend and could taste the strong Japanese coffee. Good drink to perk one up!

The cafe offers a nice ambience for frenz to chit chat and chill out. One can also order other restaurant food here and enjoy at the same time. Great cafe!

Ajisen ramen has always been a very popular Japanese ramen restaurant with the young and old. Recently, we see an increasing trend of the ramen restaurant combining with their other sister restaurant, Osaka Ohsho. Osaka Ohsho sells omelette rice and gyoza.

The restaurant branch at Tiong Bahru plaza wasn't very crowded when we reached at 7.15pm. The place wasn't big and its about 30 seaters. All ordering is done through ipad. Here's our dinner menu today:

1. Pork shabu curry ramen with crispy gyoza - all sets come with a choice of drink as well. The curry base added the spicy kick, thus one will not feel bored of the taste after a few mouthful. The pork shabu was tender and generous in portion. We love the crispy gyoza. The pork and vegetable filling inside was juicy and outside crispily fried. Rating: 3.5/5
Paulin's Munchies - Ajisen ramen & Osaka Ohsho at Tiong Bahru Plaza - Pork shabu curry ramen with crispy gyoza

2. Chicken cutlet miso ramen with fried white fish - unlike the curry ramen with nonkutsu soup base, this ramen was cooked with miso base. The soup was thick and I love it because it has lots of beansprouts and sweet corns. The cutlet however was soggy as it was in the soup. Would have preferred it to be served separately. The fried white fish was awesome. Crispy and tenderly fresh at the same time. Rating: 3.8/5

Overall, Ajisen ramen has not disappoint us in their food quality and we will be back for their rice sets the next round.

Honolulu Cafe has opened its 2nd branch at Westgate, taking over the previous Mak's Noodle. The first branch was at Centerpoint and has attracted many people for its well known egg tarts and HK dishes.

We didn't get a chance to try the food at Centerpoint due to the long queue. We were elated that they had this 2nd branch at Westgate.

The Westgate branch was opened last Sun on 19th March. At this branch, they sell bread as well. You can do takeaways just like any other bread shops.

The seating place is small and only occupy less than 20 people indoors. Fortunately today, there wasn't a queue. As they were newly opened, there were some dishes on the menu that were not offered. We ordered the following items:

1. Pork chop, egg and cheese sandwich - HK style white bread with a slice of grilled pork and egg with cheese. It wasn't as tasty as I have expected it to be. Rating: 3/5
Paulin's Munchies - Honolulu Cafe at Westgate - Pork chop, egg and cheese sandwich

2. Baked chicken spaghetti - the dish looks good but was disappointed with the taste. Just pure tomato sauce with spaghetti and cheese. Rating: 2.8/5

3. Curry fishballs - their curry gravy was good. Thick and flavorful. This is recommended to try. Rating: 3.5/5
Paulin's Munchies - Honolulu Cafe at Westgate - Curry fishballs

4. Egg tarts - Finally!! Gotten to try their tarts but was very disappointed with the taste. The crust fluffiness was there but was plain with no butter taste. Egg filling was tad too sweet and tasted more like custard. Rating: 2/5

The cafe may be new and hopefully the food could be improved with time. Nevertheless though wasn't too satisfying this round, we would give the Centerpoint branch a try. Hopefully expecting better taste...

Another Thai food exploration! This time during lunch hours for our fellow lunch buddy at Bukit Merah Lane 1. We visited Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine which was a small restaurant located facing the main road opposite Alexandra hospital.

Ambience was cosy but could be better on the hygiene. The shop owners were fun and friendly with very good service attitude. The 8 of us had the following dishes:

1. Crispy seafood tofu - fried tofu with minced seafood meat on the top. Not strong in tofu taste. Goes well with the thai chilli sauce. Rating: 3.5/5
Paulin's Munchies - Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine at Bukit Merah Lane 1 - Crispy seafood tofu

2. Thai prawn cake - 4pcs of medium size prawn cake. The cake was fried to the right crispiness on the outside. Well breaded and fried. Rating: 3.8/5
Paulin's Munchies - Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine at Bukit Merah Lane 1 - Thai prawn cake

3. Garlic pork - deep fried pork slices tossed with fried garlic. The pork was tender and tasted very much like chicken. Recommended dish to try. Rating: 4/5
Paulin's Munchies - Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine at Bukit Merah Lane 1 - Garlic pork

4. Sweet and sour fish slices - big slices of fish deep fried and stir fried in sweet and sour sauce. No tangy taste unlike others. Could do better. Rating: 3.2/5
Paulin's Munchies - Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine at Bukit Merah Lane 1 - Sweet and sour fish slices

5. Kangkong belacan - this dish was good. Generous portion of kangkong fried with belacan. It was frangrant and tasty. Rating: 4/5
Paulin's Munchies - Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine at Bukit Merah Lane 1 - Kangkong belacan

6. Basil leave minced pork - once again, the pork was so tender that it tasted like chicken. Not strong in basil leave taste so can be a child friendly dish. Rating: 3.5/5

7. Tom yum soup - hot and spicy soup with seafood. Good for those who loves the spicy kick. Rating: 3.8/5

8. Onion omelette - no fluffiness and tasted like chinese omelette. Rating: 2.8/5

Joe's Kitchen seemes to have infused Chinese taste in their food but we really much prefered the authentic thai version.

Introducing its first outlet in Kallang Wave Mall, Basil Thai Kitchen by ThaiExpress is a contemporary casual dining restaurant offering affordable Thai classic dishes.

The interior of the restaurant looks like a pretty garden, with spaces decorated by leaves and plants.

We are here at their 2nd outlet at Paragon Orchard for dinner today with family. The dishes are pretty much alike with those offered at Thai Express. Here is the list of dishes that we ordered for a family of 6:

1. Seafood pad thai - the pad thai was tad too sweet and soggy. Not very fragrantly fried. Personally it fails in comparison to other pad thais. Rating: 2.8/5
Paulin's Munchies - Basil Thai Kitchen at Paragon Orchard - Seafood pad thai

2. Beef pad thai - this is the beef version of the above dish. Tasted slightly better as it was drier. Rating: 3/5

3. Seafood horfun - portion looks miserable and was also very sweet. The winning factor was it was not so soggy. Rating: 3/5
Paulin's Munchies - Basil Thai Kitchen at Paragon Orchard - Seafood horfun

4. Sweet and sour fish - this was one of the better dishes. The tanginess of the sauce makes it appetizing. Goes well with white rice. Rating: 3.2/5

5. Basil chicken rice - non spicy basil chicken that totally killed our taste bud with its saltiness. One cannot eat the food by itself. Rating: 2/5

6. Honey chicken rice - 3pcs of honey chicken accompanied with rice. Once again, the chicken were too sweet. Rating: 2.8/5

7. Fried omelette - another better dish. The omelette was crispy but does not have the frangrant egg taste. Still acceptable. Rating: 3.2/5

8. Seafood vermicelli salad - a very spicy dish. The seafood seems to be undercooked and we had to blanched them with the tom yum soup we ordered. Rating: 3/5

9. Mushroom tom yum soup - another pure spicy food that heats up one's tastebud. Rating: 2.8/5

10. Thai fish cake - the fish cake seems to be from frozen source. Tasted very ordinary. Rating: 2.8/5
Paulin's Munchies - Basil Thai Kitchen at Paragon Orchard - Thai fish cake

11. Desserts - mango sticky rice (glutinuous rice not very fragrant and a little hard), thai chendol (feels like drinking pure coconut cream), red ruby coconut cream (tasted strange with the jackfruit), basil mojito (the most acceptable drink of all. Could quench and clear the greasiness). Rating: 3/5

Long Chim, which means 'Come and Taste', is owned by renowned Celebrity Chef David Thomson. The restaurant brings to Singapore the finest variety and spread of Thai street food.
Paulin's Munchies - Long Chim at The Shoppe MBS - Green curry with chicken

There are live kitchen stations in the restaurant producing exciting range of dishes evoking the mouthwatering roadside eateries and vibrant street markets of Bangkok.

Kevin brought me here to celebrate my birthday since we both love Thai food. Long Chim is located on level 2 of Marina Bay Sands (MBS) near Gucci flagship store.

We were fascinated by the modern ambiance and decorations. A place with ambiance so suited for couples, family and friends. The menu is printed on 1 sheet only. Introducing to us the dishes was a friendly staff. There were quite a no. of food introduced, but we decided to go for the following:

1. Green curry with chicken - a highly recommended dish for green curry lovers who love spicy. The serving bowl looks small, but the dish was filled with chicken pcs and eggplants. Unlike other green curry that can be quite coconutty, this dish offers a stronger green curry taste. Rating: 4.2/5
Paulin's Munchies - Long Chim at The Shoppe MBS - Green curry with chicken

2. Siamese watercress with yellow bean garlic - basically this a fried kangkong. But it is fried with yellowbean instead of sambal. Love wok fried taste and authenticity. Rating: 4.2/5

3. Jack's omelette - basically this is plain egg omelette. A simple dish but yet difficult to do it well, especially to fry to its fluffiness. Its not as fluffy but has a very fragrant egg taste. Goes well with the chilli sauce accompanying it. Rating: 4/5
Paulin's Munchies - Long Chim at The Shoppe MBS - Jack's omelette

4. Sundried king fish with thai mango salad - another must try dish. The fish slices are so fresh and fried to the right texture. A simple and delicious dish. The mango salad was tangy in taste and very different from usual. Its tossed with lots of parsley, mint leaves and fried garlic slices. Rating: 4.5/5
Paulin's Munchies - Long Chim at The Shoppe MBS - Sundried king fish with thai mango salad

Kevin arranged for a birthday surprise with their recommended dessert, banana roti. This is a common BKK street dessert so well done. Crispy skin wrapped with sweet banana, drizzled with condense milk. This was my birthday cake! I really enjoyed this wonderful meal.

Long Chim is no doubt a very good Thai restaurant highly recommended for family and friends. Though food is on a slightly expensive side, we still found it worthwhile.
