Hirune Sandwiches at Pasir Panjang Road

Covid-19 has turned many of us to home chefs. During these 3 months period, I must admit that I have explored quite a bit on home cooking with occasional food delivery. It's rather difficult to maintain the food standard with delivery and personally I feel that there are only certain foods that could meet the standards. 

I am glad to be able to review Hirune Sandwiches today. Ordered these lovely Japanese sandwiches for lunch. Lots of solid fresh ingredients in between 2 slices of soft fluffy Japanese bread. Hirune Sandwiches currently offer island wide delivery at $8 per location during specific lunch and dinner times with minimum order of $15.

We had the below for lunch today:

1. Fat Chick ($8.90) - big juicy chicken thigh with Japanese cucumber between milk bread. The chicken thigh was nicely roasted and was an awesome combination for sandwiches. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Crazy bull ($9.90) - slow-cook beef short ribs and brisket with hard boiled eggs and drizzled with chilli oil and lettuce. A must order for beef lovers as the meat was soft and delicious. Rating: 4/5

3. Karate Pig ($8.90) - pork chop patty with onions with homemade steak sauce on soft fluffy bread slices. We found the patty a little salty but overall still acceptable. Rating: 3.8/5

There are many other varieties like Otahcoma etc and would say Hirune Sandwiches over value for money Japanese sandwiches at very affordable price. Why not start ordering these sandwiches for lunch tomorrow? 

Food Barn at Alexandra Retail Center ARC

Food Barn is an attractive cafe that offers quick bites like sandwiches, salads and burgers. Different branches offer slightly different food range. The one at ARC not only offers sandwiches, but also burgers, quesadilla and baked pastas and rice.

We were here for a quick lunch celebration and we ordered the following items:

1. Ham/mushroom/chicken quesadilla - tortilla wraps filled with cheese and mushrooms/ham/chicken. The combination was delicious with the melted cheese oozing out of the wrap. Each quesadilla comes with small coleslaw and potato chips. A little pricey for the dish but it tasted good. Rating: 4.2/5


2. Smoked salmon sandwich - generous smoked salmon slices lining the rye bread with lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes. A healthy sandwich to go for. Rating: 4/5


3. Chicken avacado sandwich - healthy grilled chicken breast with avacado slices and vegetables. The spread with the crispy ciabatta bread was a good combination. Refreshing with the avacado. Rating: 4/5


4. Chicken tikka sandwich - pcs of marinated tikka chicken with crispy ciabatta bread. Wasn't as tasty as I had expected but was still delicious. Rating: 3.8/5


All sandwich sets come with coleslaw and chips as well. Though the sets come a little pricey for lunch, it was nevertheless a great western quick meal to consider for lunch for the working crowd.

Kraftwich at Hillion Mall

Kraftwich by Swiss Bake serves handcrafted sandwiches with their freshest and nutritious ingredients. There are a wide range of different sandwiches to choose from, tuna to smoked salmon sandwiches.

We ordered their smoked duck sandwich set to share for lunch today. Each set comes with mushroom/beef stragnoff soup, coffee/tea and muffin.


The mushroom soup was thick with freshly sliced mushrooms. Tasted healthy but consistency was tad too starchy. The biscotti accompanying the soup was great.


Now on the crafted sandwich. The ingredients were generous and smoked duck tasted so good as well. The mustard sauce together with the duck was a heavenly combination. So tasty yet not sinful. The calories are written on every sandwich item on the menu.

The muffin serves a great dessert after meal. Light, buttery and soft, it was good! The earl grey tea was from Twinnings.

For a healthy sandwich meal, other than Subway, Kraftwich can definitely be considered.

Sandwich Man at Namba Osaka

Sandwich Man is a local Japanese sandwich cafe located near the housing district of Namba. The cafe opens at 830am daily and offers a wide variety of sandwich choices. There are 2 levels with 6 counter seats on the first floor and 26 seats on the 2nd level.

Each sandwich comes in medium or large size. We ordered their large double cheese ham egg salad sandwich and a cup of large americano coffee to share. At an affordable 600yen for the sandwich, it is definitely worth every cent.


This sandwich could be shared by 2 pple. There was wasabi in the egg salad, which gives a 'kick' in the sandwich taste. The ham, cheese and egg salad combination was heavenly with the crispily buttered toast. AWESOME!

For a nice delicious breakfast, would definitely recommend this sandwich restaurant.

Paris Baguette at JEM

Paris Baguette, the popular Korean bread cafe, is situated on the 2nd level of JEM. The bright and cheery cafe with loud Korean music and wonderful display of sandwiches, bread and salad caught most people's attention. 

We were so attracted by the sandwich display and decided to try them for lunch.

Kevin had the chicken crunch salad while I went for the oriental chicken pastry sandwich. 

Both dishes are to be eaten cold. There are other hot sandwich choices we which we will give them a try the next round. 

The chicken crunch salad is accompanied with sesame dressing. The chicken was sliced chicken breast toasted with a thin crunchy crust. 

The vegetables are so fresh and crunchy. Love it! As for my oriental chicken pastry sandwich, it is basically minced chicken wrapped with buttery pastry roll and vegetable. Something very unique and delicious to try.

Paris Baguette is a nice cafe to chill out or catch up with frenz. Do check them out at other branches like Wisma, bugis etc as well.
