To celebrate Mother's Day in advance, I brought my mother-in-law to eat her favourite dim sum at Luk Yu Chinatown Point. We were there for brunch at about 1030am and there weren't many people around.

We ordered the standard siew mai, har gao, liu sha bao, char siew su, chee cheong fun, chicken feet, carrot cake, congee. But Luk Yu actually serves other creative variety like mango smoked duck bao, fried yam with strawberry etc. Dim sum were much better than those at red star or legendary HK. Price is about 4.80 per basket of 3. All of us were super full and satisfied with brunch.

Since we were near cross street and weather was hot, we went over to have cool coconut soft serve ice cream. Thumbs up for the soft serve. Filled with coconut fragrance and the flesh was really soft and nice. Excellent combination with the baked coconut chips too.

Another "foodful" day for us...

First Thai, a traditional Thai restaurant at Purvis Street serves excellent and value for money Thai food. With no gst and service charge, the food is definitely worth every price of it.

We were welcomed by a friendly staff into the restaurant. Fortunately there were still empty seats. Amazed by the old deco, we were so busy taking photos that the lady boss decided to come over. She asked in a monotonous tone... "Why are u taking photos?" "Oh it's to show our frenz and help promote"we answered. She replied:"No need to advertise and put on website. We dun need that."
Ooo... We were so stunned by her confident tone. Guess all food bloggers taking photos would have encountered this... haha..

Nevertheless we ordered Thai basil pork, green curry, fried kailan with mushrooms, fried stringbean omelette with belacan and green bandung. All dishes are a must try except for the green bandung. It tasted like cough syrup to us. Haha...

Food were served within 5 mins and must give extra thumbs up for the omelette dish. Excellent combination with belacan.

First Thai is definitely a place to visit.

After our dinner, how could we miss out desserts. We walked to Liang Sean Street to have 糖水 at 糖水先. We ordered yam paste with pumpkin and gingko nuts and peanut mochi. Yam paste was a little watery but tasted still good. Peanut mochi was average.

Guess they were better off with their cold shaved ice desserts.

We stumbled across a good deal while shopping at Jcube. Kyo by Sakae is actually offering 50% off all ala-carte menu from Mon to Thurs from 6pm to 9.30pm.

At Sakae, one couldn't skip ordering their fried tofu and kakiage. Still as good as ever with their sauce. We tried their otah dish which came as so so and cheese chicken katsu which we would give a thumbs up for it. Fried katsu with melted cheese and mayo. Yummy.... but warning: this dish can be a little 膩 eating too many pcs.

Another of our favourite dish is the yaki udon. Nicely fried with chicken pcs and vegetables. The salmon mentai inari was shiok! Given more stomach space we would have ordered another plate of it since its half price! For 8 dishes we only paid 26 bucks after discount.

This is definitely a place worth visiting during the offer period. So do come while offer is still on!

We bought a groupon special voucher worth $80 for $40 and finally gotten the chance to knock off slightly earlier from work to give this place a try.

The air con indoors were really cold so we decided to opt for the alfresco dining instead. Ambiance was good. Place with music and area was cool enough with the huge fan above us.

Looking through the menu, we ordered Smoked salmon pesto spaghetti, pizza burger and chicken Caesar salad. First came the salad. Portion was huge and decorated with generous portion of fried bacon and grilled chicken.

Next came my spaghetti. Creamy and smoky licking good!

Lastly was the long awaited pizza burger. Instead of the usual burger bread, they used pizza crust. Thick juicy beef patty with sauteed mushrooms and onions and pickles. Simply awesome! Homecut fries were crispy and good!

In summary, though the price is a little steep, but it's worth it for its quality. Average price per person is abt 35 bucks but if groupon voucher is bought, then it's definitely worth while.

Golden Mile Complex, a place popular with the Thai community in SG. Heard that one can find authentic Thai cuisines and daily necessities at this place. We decided to pay this place a visit today for a popular Thai restaurant, Diandin Leluk. It was just 5.30pm and this restaurant is already packed with Thai locals, foreigners and Singaporeans.

Entering the restaurant gives u a feel that you are back in bkk. The servers are foreigners but who can speak very good English. We ordered their popular Phat thai, pineapple rice, papaya salad and fried cashew nut chicken

The portion on the menu looks small but when the food came, it was generous! The small portion could easily feed up to 3 pple. All the dishes were fantastic and retaining some original taste from Thailand. One slight bad pt is that one must be able to take spicy stuff. Our tummies were on fire!

To dowse it, we ordered their chendol. Not overly rich and yet tasty. Besides chendol, they serve a wide range of desserts like assorted Thai kuehs, red ruby etc etc.

There are lots of other restaurants to explore here in Golden Mile. Time to visit another one the next round.

I gave been craving for liu sha bao recently, thus to satisfy my craving, here we are at Crystal Jade Kitchen for dim sum.

Crystal Jade Kitchen serves a wide range of dim sum, each ranging from 4.80 to 5.90. Liu sha bao, bbq baked crispy buns, baked cheese pork rolls, deep fried spring rolls, hot and sour soup, braised vegetables beancurd are what we ordered.

Liu sha bao filling was good but found the skin a little too thick. We still preferred the bbq baked buns from tim ho wan.

Crystal Jade ones are drier and less buttery. However, the braised vegetables beancurd was well done. Soft, tasty and not too salty.

Overall, Crystal Jade Kitchen is a place with nice ambience and service but one can find better dim sum at other places like Swee Choon.

We are back at Jurong East, one of our favourite eating venues. This time we decided to go for a change in taste. No more Japanese, dim sum but Malay! We were so attracted by the great variety of dishes displayed, all looking so delicious.

We ordered a plate of nasi parang with curry chicken, tampeh, sweet and sour fish and vegetables. It cost S$8.50. To add on, we ordered a plate of tahu goreng. It was so nicely done. Crispy on the outside and so soft and cottony on the inside. Thumbs up!

We tried gelato for dessert. Pistachio flavour for me and rum and raisin for Kevin. Both tasted good but costly. 7.70 for such a small cup but was fortunate that they had one for one promo. Worth to try while promotion is still on.

Situated on the 3rd floor beside the popular 美人鍋,this restaurant is popular for its egg sushi. They serve the well received tamago sushi which is so popular with children that one child could actually stomach 6 to 8 plates at one go!

One could actually taste the sweetness of the rice when eating the sushi and they tasted especially good with the egg fillings. Sushi prices range from 1.90 to 5.90. Not expensive for the quality.

Besides sushi, they serve value set meals like teriyaki chicken. Portion is a little small but definitely worth it for its taste and quality.

Ryoshi sushi is definitely a place worth trying for sushi eaters.

A special afternoon with my mum and parents-in-law. We went to the popular HK restaurant at Mongkok Street in Jurong Point. Typically on a weekend afternoon, we queued and waited 20mins for our seats.

A whole long list of food waiting for us to order.... and these are what we ended with:

Mixed bbq combo: London Roast Duck and Char sire
Siew Mai, Har gao, zha leong, chicken feet, crispy custard salted egg buns, wanton noodles, shrimp noodles, braised beef noodles.

Nothing too fantastic about the noodles and bbq combo but gotta give thumbs up to their crispy custard salted egg buns. So soft and crispy on the top with oozing custard filling. The so called legendary London duck was quite fatty and not as tasty as it appears to be on the posters.

Our parents love the braised chicken feet. Tender, tasty and with the right saltiness. Legendary HK is a place worth to go for its dim sum but not other dishes. Price is on a little high side.
