Zai Shun Curry Fish Head and Seafood at Jurong East

Recently awarded as 2017 Michelin Bib Gourmand, it has attracted large crowds tasting their delicious food during lunch hours on weekdays and weekends. Opened from 7am to 3pm daily except Wednesdays, Zai Shun offers a very wide range of porridge dishes to choose from.


Seats are hard to get, so its better to reach early at about 11am. We ordered 5 dishes in all and they cost $67.50 in all. Assam curry fish head is a must order. For $26, the freshness of the fish is unbeatable and gravy tasted so good. Portion was one whole fish head thus definitely so worth it. Rating: 4.2/5




The braised pig trotters at $16 for 5 persons is another must try dish. The trotters are so fragrantly braised and tasted so home cooked. The flesh and skin basically disintegrates into your mouth. Rating: 4.2/5


Prawn paste chicken at $8 is an ok dish. Not too fantastic. Rating: 3.5/5.


The remaining 2 vegetable dishes at $6 each are ordinary as well. Probably should have ordered their fried bittergourd with eggs. Rating: 3.5/5


The stall business is definitely very very good and food is definitely worth a try especially for their fish dishes. All so fresh and affordable.

a-day Japanese Western Cafe at Orchard Central

There are many restaurants to try in Orchard Central, ranging from Japanese to Chinese to Western to Thai. Located on the 4th floor of Orchard Central, a-day is a Japanese Western cafe serving fusion food. The cafe is not big but provides a very cosy feeling with the interior design and furniture.

Priced at $13.90 each, we ordered their beef sukiyaki and hamburg steak. Each main dish comes with mushroom soup, salad, tapas and rice.The mushroom soup was a little watery and not too tasty but tapas and salad was good. The beef sukiyaki is big in portion and ingredients very fresh. The soup was very delicious and tasty.

Each main dish the we ordered, came with the following mushroom soup, salad, tapas and rice.



I did not like the beef slices though as they are a little fatty. The rice accompanying the sukiyaki is very fragrant and buttery. The hamburg steak on the other hand was much smaller in portion but tasted good with the potato wedges. Though not the best but still ok.

Prices are very affordable and the cafe is a very cosy place for gathering with family and frenz.

Yole at Tanjong Pagar Center

Yole, the new European yoghurt franchise, has taken over all existing Ilao Ilao branches in SG. Instead of the green designed cups and spoons, it is now blue.

The Tanjong Pagar Center branch attracted a small crowd, all staring at the new menu as there is no longer the usual sanum to order. The 3 cup sizes of yoghurt is the same as Ilao Ilao and priced the same. For medium size with 3 toppings, its at $5.90.

The yoghurt flavour is different though as they are offering strawberry twist yoghurt for limited period till 17th Dec. The choices of sauce is much more and the best is that cookie saucr remains one of them. The crunches choices have also been increased. There are like butter biscuits etc. However, no more sanum but other blends.

The taste of crunches and sauce still tasted the same. Only the yoghurt is different and was quite refreshing. Hopefully Yole can continue to sustain.

Bugis Street Chuen Chuen at Tan Quee Lan Street

Bugis Street Chuen Chuen, since 1979, has been famous for their delicious chicken rice. It started with a stall at Rocher hawker center and now it has become a restaurant of its own selling other tze char dishes.

Since many has already reviewed on their delicious chicken rice, we decided to try their tze char dishes instead. We ordered their recommended assam fish head ($26) and poached kailan ($8) as side dish. 





The fish head portion was really huge!! Besides the big and fresh fish head, there were lots of vegetables, taupok, brinjal, ladys finger and also pineapples and tomatoes. 

The gravy was sourish and spicy and opens our appetite. The dish was more than enough for 2 of us and we regreted ordering the poached kailan. The kailan was the typical chicken rice vegetable dish.

The service was prompt but place a little small. Better to make reservation for huge families. Overall we had a pleasant dinner at Chuen Chuen. Price is inclusive of the 7% gst and no service charge.

China Square Fried Fish Soup (Blanco court) at Tanjong Pagar Xchange

The all famous Blanco court fish soup has a stall at Tanjong Pagar Xchange which satisfy many working class after a day's work. We were there for their recommended fried fish meat bee hoon soup.

For $5.50, portion was big and there were 5pcs of freshly fried fish meat. The skin was thin and so full of fish meat. Love it! They have the fried egg accompanying the smooth bee hoon. Soup was just right in terms of taste. On a cold day, this is definitely a comfort food.


We will be back for more definitely!

Yummo Chow at Purvis Street

Yummo Chow is a neat white cafe situated inside Hotel Nuve along Purvis Street. The interior of the cafe is shared with the lobby or reception of Hotel Nuve. It gives one a very cosy feel with interior design.

Since it was only opened during July this year, it is offering discounts via Eatigo. During dinner time, it is 50% off all food items except dessert and starters and drinks.

We were there for a gal's gathering and here is what we had:

1. Chilli crab mee ($19) - homemade chilli sauce with linguine and soft shell crab and mushroom. Its a little spicy and gingery. A unique fusion taste. Rating: 3.5/5


2. Teri tori mee ($13) - japanese style pasta with teriyaki sauce topped with fried chicken cutlet and shredded seaweed. The sauce was a little too sweet for our liking. Rating: 3/5


3. Beef burger ($18) - we love this dish best. Tender beef patty with fluffy fried burger buns accompanied with truffle fries and salad. Delicious burger. Rating: 4/5


4. Fun n mix bowl ($14) - a healthy bowl where you can choose your own mains and dishes. We had their special herb rice, pan fried fish, corn, cherry tomatos, sauteed mushrooms, baked potato with sesame sauce. A nice healthy bowl for food lovers. Rating: 3.8/5


5. Land and sea platter ($14) - fried calamari, mantou with chilli crab sauce and chicken cutlet. Ordinary starter. Rating: 3.2/5


6. Fried Tempura ice cream ($11) - ice cream coated with bread fried in tempura style. A dessert good for sharing. Hot crispy outside with cold ice cream. A strange yet delicious combi. Rating: 3.5/5




Overall Yummo Chow is a nice homely cafe for frenz gathering. I should be back for their fun n mix bowl and burgers!

Otaru Suisan at Bugis Plus

Otaru Suisan provides such great cosiness for family and frenz. Decorated with wooden furniture and dimm lightings, the restaurant provides one with cosy authentic Japanese feel. There are tatami like tables along the sides where shoes must be removed before entering.

Though under Ramen Champion, the menu served was large in variety. With our usual buddies, we ordered a no of dishes to try:

1. Tofu salad ($6.90) - cold tofu salad with japanese sesame soy sauce dressing topped with bonito flakes. Quite a good dish to our liking. Rating: 4/5


2. Chicken karaage ($4) - 3 pcs of thinly fried chicken karaage that was ordinary in taste. Rating: 3/5


3. Salmon cutlet curry rice ($14) - crispily fried salmon cutlet with japanese curry sauce. The sauce was ordinary and not thick and fragrant enough. Rating: 3.2/5


4. Unagi don with special tea soup ($14) - small unagi don accompanied with their special tea. The tea tasted like very light miso soup and overall combination quite good. A pity that the unagi had many small fine bones. Rating: 3.8/5


5. Zaru soba ($8.90) - another disappointing dish as the noodles tasted floury. Rating: 2.8/5


6. Mentaiko gyoza ($7.90) - ordinary panfried gyoza topped with mentaiko sauce. Rating: 3.2/5


It was the lovely ambience and service that won us over but we believe food should taste much better to attract more customers.
