Yishun Park Hawker Center has been around since 2017 and it is a traditional hawker center with innovated and modernized hawker fare. There is a very wide variety of food stalls in the center, some of which are managed by very young entrepreneur hawkers.

The hawker center is quite well ventilated, with very high ceilings and ceiling fans. Today we are there for dinner to explore some of the highly recommended food.

1. Ah Tan Crispy Chicken - at $1.80 per pc, this stall serves very delicious har cheong gai. The wings are a little oily though and it was indeed very crispy and fresh. Would have been better if the smelly beancurd taste is much stronger. Rating: 3.8/5
Ah Tan Crispy Chicken - Yishun Park Hawker Center

2. Ipoh Curry Noodles - we wanted to go for their signature roasted pork with chicken curry noodle but it was sold out. We opted for their normal chicken noodle at $6. The ingredients were very generous with lots of taupok, chicken slices and beansprouts. Though it was not as authentic, it was really a pretty decent bowl of curry noodle. Rating: 3.8/5
Ipoh Curry Noodles - Yishun Park Hawker Center

3. Munchi Pancake - selling at $1.20 per pc of man chiang kueh, the peanut filling one was awesome. You can either choose their traditional skin, charcoal skin or green tea flavoured ones. I love their generous filling and peanut butter flavour. There are other flavours like green tea red bean, coconut etc. It is a modernized man chiang kueh stall with many other fillings as well. Rating: 4/5
Munchi Pancake - Yishun Park Hawker Center

4. Jiaocai Hotplate Bbq Seafood - we ordered a medium sambal stingray at $15. The stingray was very fresh and the sambal chilli was good as well. Rating: 4/5
Jiaocai Hotplate Bbq Seafood - Yishun Park Hawker Center

5. Crayfish chilli crab horfun - this is from XLX tze char stall. Priced at $24, one gets 3 crayfish. The horfun was delicious with a slight charred taste. A novelty to try but not a must. Rating: 3.8/5
Crayfish chilli crab horfun - Yishun Park Hawker Center

6. Truffle beef burger - from the stall East meet West, this stall is managed by an ang moh. The beef patty was awesomely juicy with the huge portobello mushroom and the buns are toasted just right. We love the juiciness of the beef. The wedges are ordinary though. For $10.90, it's definitely worth the wait. Rating: 4/5

There are many other stalls to try but unfortunately the above 6 was what I can introduce today. We will be back to review on the rest of the stalls thus do stay tuned!

1. Hakka beef balls and yong tau fu at Gar Lok Eating House
Located at 217 Syed Alwi Road, this little coffee shop has only 3 stalls in it. One stall selling hakka beef balls, yong tau fu and drink stall. The yong tau fu stall offers other Hakka snacks like soon kueh and abacus as well. The soon kueh is a little different from the usual.. it's made of traditional glutinous flour like those that makes the abacus which is much stickier than the usual soon kueh. The filling is generous and good and tasted awesome with the chilli. The Hakka yong tau fu was ordinary but the beef ball noodles is so traditionally homemade. Bouncy and crunchy with clear soup base. Overall would rate them at 3.8/5.

2. Johor Road Boon Kee Pork Porridge and Famous Fried Chicken Wing Rice and Hainanese Chicken Rice at 638 Veerasamy Road
Priced at $3.50 per porridge, Boon Kee Pork Porridge only offers pork choices with other additional ingredients at 50cents top up. The stall is managed by husband and wife duo. Wife cooks the porridge while hubby collects money and takes order. We waited for about 20mins before our porridge was served. Number token will be taken and will be called for collection by looking at the queue no display. Porridge is so generous with all ingredients. Very value for money with the price and taste. Deserves the thumbs up. Rating: 4.2/5
As for the chicken rice, the fried chicken wing was fresh and well fried but still lacking the wow factor. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Ping Ji Popiah at Jln Besar
This pair of elderly couple opens their popiah stall at 12pm daily and takes half hour break at around 2pm before continuing their business till evening time. Priced at $1.60 per roll, the filling is generous and delicious. It's the traditional kind of popiah whereby the skin is a little dry. Overall very old school kind of taste. Rating: 4/5
Besides the popiah, there is also the freshly fried oyster cake. Its fluffy and succulent with minced pork, oyster and prawn. Rating: 4/5

Located at 49A Serangoon Garden Way, Serangoon Garden Market & Food Center is well known for many good food stalls that are opened for breakfast and lunch. After late afternoon all the stalls would have been closed and many would divert their attention to Chomp Chomp for more food during dinner.

We were there for brunch this very morning to try out a few of the recommended stalls.

1. Serangoon Garden Confectionery & Bakery - this old school bread shop sells many of the old school bread at very affordable price. The buns are generally sold for less than a $1 each. The buns are soft with generous filling but still lacking the buttery taste of the buns. The bread are usually sold out by noon so do come early for more choices. Recommended ones include curry, luncheon meat, red bean and kaya. Rating: 3.8/5

2. Lao Song Fa Fishball and Teochew noodles - $4 for a very decent bowl of teochew minced pork noodles. The mee pok was springy and chilli was good. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Soon Huat pig organ soup - queue is long as well. We bought the kway chap dish with braised pig skin, intestines and egg. A little too porky for our liking. Rating: 3.4/5

4. Fried carrot cake - we went for the black version. Very fragrantly fried but a little too soggy. Rating: 3.6/5

5. Beancurd and grass jelly - priced at only $1 per bowl, this is certainly a very old school dessert worth trying. We love the grass jelly especially as it uses the atap chee syrup. Yummy. Rating: 3.9/5

There are many many more food stalls to try and do stay tune for more reviews for the rest of the other stalls.

Our first time exploring hawker food in the East of Singapore. Bedok Interchange Hawker Center is well known for its delicious food that even the Jurongers will travel all the way down to try the food.

One of the famous stall will be the Bedok chwee kueh. Although they have many branches, nothing beats the original stall in Bedok.

Being just the 2 of us, we explored other dishes that seemingly looked delicious and recommended.

1. Ming Hui Nasi Lemak
Delicious and economical nasi lemak with a queue starting as early as 5pm. We had fried chicken wing, cabbage, sambal eggplant and luncheon meat at just $3.20!! The fried chicken wing is must order as it is so fragrantly and crispily fried. The rice however is not as fragrant as the Holland V nasi lemak. Awesome! Rating: 3.8/5

2. Penang Kitchen
Thought they will be selling authentic penang food but what was recommended instead is their fried fish lor mee at $4. The ingredients were generous and gravy consistency just at the right texture. Simply awesome in taste! Rating: 4/5

The all famous Blanco court fish soup has a stall at Tanjong Pagar Xchange which satisfy many working class after a day's work. We were there for their recommended fried fish meat bee hoon soup.

For $5.50, portion was big and there were 5pcs of freshly fried fish meat. The skin was thin and so full of fish meat. Love it! They have the fried egg accompanying the smooth bee hoon. Soup was just right in terms of taste. On a cold day, this is definitely a comfort food.

Today is a hawker food exploration at Beach Road. With 2 of our buddies who loves food and eating, we are here with them at Golden Mile Food Center to explore some of the center's very delicious food. Today's 2 stalls are Pauline Thai food and Chung Cheng Chilli Mee on the 2nd floor of the center.

From Pauline Thai, we ordered 5 dishes in all. They are as follow:

1. Fried tang hoon ($5) - generous portion of fragrantly fried tang hoon with lots of ingredients. Portion is good enough to share among 2 people. It has a slight burnt taste which was great! Rating: 3.8/5

2. Green curry chicken ($7) - huge bowl of thick green curry gravy with lots of brinjal. The brinjal is cooked to the right texture and the gravy didn't taste too coconutty. Other types of cream could have been added. Rating: 4/5

4. Minced pork basil ($7) - a very refreshing appetizer dish to open up one's appetite. The tanginess of the minced pork with onions tasted real good. A good alternative to the usual mango salad. Rating: 4.2/5

As a side dish, we tried the chilli mee from Chung Cheng Chilli Mee. It was like prawn noodle but the special homemade chilli sauce tossed made it especially good. The ingredients are prawn, ribs, fish cake and eggs. Yummy and deserves thumbs up!

Hong Lim Complex has always been a very popular food center among the working crowd at Chinatown. The food complex is known for the curry chicken noodles and many many other food.

The center was crowded and so packed with people. Lots of stalls to choose from and customers are so spoilt with choices. Our lunchies went to queue for 2 very popular stalls: Tuck Kee Ipoh Sah Horfun and Ji Ji Wanton Noodle.

Tuck Kee Ipoh Horfun sells 4 types of horfun in all, with the crayfish horfun being the most popular. Priced at $8 per plate, the silky smooth horfun is served with 1 crayfish and generous portion of prawns. The seafood was fresh and with the portion provided, it is quite worth the price. The abalone mushroom horfun is priced at $5 per plate. The gravy tasted plain and would be better with the chilli. Rating: 3.5/5
CrayFish Horfun

Besides wanton noodles, Ji Ji offers dumpling noodles, curry chicken noodles, braised chicken noodles, ipoh horfun etc. The portion was generous as well and we love the noodles. It is the thicker yellow noodles free of ghee taste. Priced at $4 for basic bowl, the wantons and dumplings are so full in texture with lots of meat filling. The char siew slices were fresh and the sauce in the noodles were superb in taste. This stall is definitely worth the queue and wait. Curry chicken noodle was tasty and flavourful. Chicken pcs were tender and with every noodle mouthful soaking up the gravy. This stall is definitely worth the wait and queue for. Rating: 4/5

This is our first time here. We were at Farrer Park vicinity to visit our frenz during lunch time and decided to go for lunch there. We queued for a popular roast meat stall called Xin Heng Kee.

The stall is located in the middle row of the market and food centre. The queue was long during lunch and we had to wait for 10mins.
Paulin's Muchies - Xin Heng Kee Chicken and Duck Rice at Pek Kio market - roast chicken, duck and meat with tau kua and egg

We ordered a 3 roast mixed platter set. It consisted of roast chicken, duck and meat with tau kua and egg.  All these with rice for only 13 bucks. The portion was very generous.

We are back at Chinatown food complex to try another stall of the steam Song fish head as promised the last round. Two weeks ago, we tried the steam fish head from HK Mong Kok Kui Ji kitchen.

This time, we decided to go for the stall just by the escalator entrance which has won several culinary awards, Huan Xi Canton cuisine.

The complex wasn't as crowded on a Sat. There are ample seats around today and we managed to get a seat just right in front of the stall. We ordered the steam song fish head with cai poh, fried nai bai and king pork ribs
Paulin's Muchies - Huan Xi Canton Cuisine at Chinatown Food Complex - Cai Poh Steam Fish

The food was served within 10 mins. The fish portion was bigger than the previous round and gravy much thicker. The cai poh was very fragrantly fried with pork lard but it still failed to cover the mud taste of the fish.

It was rather strong in mud taste, especially near the stomach area. We had to eat it with lots of cai poh to mask out the taste a little.

The fried nai bai on the other hand was very good. Fried with garlic and wolfberries, it's a dish good enough to go with rice.
Paulin's Muchies - Huan Xi Canton Cuisine at Chinatown Food Complex - Fried nai bai

The king pork ribs was well done as well. Lean fried pork ribs with sweet and sour sauce. Portion was generous. The meat was tender and juicy.
Paulin's Muchies - Huan Xi Canton Cuisine at Chinatown Food Complex - King Pork Ribs

In terms of fish, HK Mong Kok Kui Ji kitchen definitely surpass that of Huan Xi Canton cuisine. But the vegetable and other dishes from Huan Xi are better.

Two down and many more stalls to go. We will be back to compare the rest.

Chinatown complex food centre is well known for various good food stalls. One food commonly found among the stalls is steam fish head.

Whether it's steam with black bean or fried garlic, there are many stalls with this option available. For a start, we tried the steam fish head with fried garlic from HK Mongkok Kui Ji Kitchen.  The stall owners were very friendly and approachable.

Besides their popular steam fish head, they recommended us their homemade fried prawn roll. Vegetable is a must for us, so we ordered fried di huang miao with garlic. All these dishes cost us $30 and rice was free.
Paulin's Muchies - HK Mongkok Kui Ji kitchen at Chinatown Complex Food Centre - Steam fish head with fried garlic

Portion was definitely generous. Food taste wise simply awesome as well, especially for the fried prawn roll. The fried prawn roll comes with their homemade plum sauce which was an awesome combination.

Paulin's Muchies - HK Mongkok Kui Ji kitchen at Chinatown Complex Food Centre - Fried prawn roll

Every bite into the prawn roll can feel and taste the sweetness and crunchiness of the chestnut bits. You can also see fresh prawn pcs in the roll.  A must order dish!!

The steam fish head with fried garlic was soft and tender as well.  There was no mud smell at all as the sauce and fried garlic was very very fragrant. The sauce drizzled into plain rice could have one just eat it like this.

The fried di huang miao tasted very home cooked. Other than that, nothing too special to comment on.

One stall of fish head tried. We will be back to try the other fish head stalls in coming weeks and we can do a full comparison on which serves the best steam fish head. Stay tuned!
