Pow Sing Restaurant was 1st opened in 1983 and has been famous for their delicious and fragrant Hainanese chicken rice.

We have always been patronising their one and only Serangoon branch but recently with the opening of Jewel on 17th April'19, Pow Sing Restaurant has joined alongside with the rest of the popular restaurants like Shake Shack and many others.

Located at B2 of the complex just opposite A&W, this cosy family restaurant offers very much similar dishes like their Serangoon branch but at a slightly difference in price. Maybe due to the higher rent, the dishes are more expensive. We ordered 3 dishes.

1. Half chicken ($19) - delicious white tender chicken on top of cucumber slices. Even the breast area is also so tender. Rating: 4/5
Half poached chicken - Pow Sing Restaurant

2. Trio egg spinach ($12) - we ordered the small portion and indeed was rather small. Not much vegetables but was nicely done in the trio egg gravy. The gravy was thicker as compared to other restaurants. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Chai po omelette ($10) - fragrantly fried omelette with minced chai po. Not a lot of chai po and not the best but still acceptable. Rating: 3.5/5

Ar Char - Pow Sing Restaurant

Service was definitely prompt and good. Had to queue about 20mins during dinner time but food was served 5 mins upon ordering. Pow Sing serves not a bad choice to dine if one does not want to join in the super long queue for restaurants like Shake Shack.

v Go Ang Pratunam is an awarded Michelin 1-star chicken rice from Bangkok at Pratunam. With its 1st branch in Singapore, its located at the all popular neighbourhood Serangoon Nex which is a mall so known for food. The restaurant is just right beside the Japanese food street.

The interior of the restaurant was decorated with pink signboards and neon lights. The furnitures are made of wood. The service is very swift and bustling. We ordered their 4 dishes:

1. Signature braised pork ($8) - deliciously braised tender pork that almost melt in your mouth at every bite. It was surprisingly not fatty and do not have the strong porky taste. It goes extremely well with the special chilli sauce. Rating: 4/5
Signature braised pork - Go Ang Pratunam at Serangoon Nex - Paulin's Munchies

2. Chicken rice ($4.50) - we ordered their single portion chicken rice. Tender soft breast meat on qq fragrant rice. The rice is less oily than the usual Hainanese ones but did not compromise on the taste. However, we still preferred the stronger tasting Hainsnese chicken rice. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Fried tofu with thai sweet chilli sauce ($8) - huge portion of fried beancurd cubes topped with crushed peanut and chilli flakes. Simply love the combination. Rating: 4/5

4. Basil chicken with kailan ($8) - fragrantly fried kailan with minced chicken and garlic. Its a little spicy with the cut chilli but a very well fried vegetable. Rating: 4/5

It's a pity that we have no tummy to try their desserts but we will definitely return for a 2nd visit to try some of their othet dishes like omelette and steam fish.

Wee Nam Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice is an established food chain for a long time since 1989. It has 4 outlets in all, with one at the new busy shopping mall at Northpoint City.

The restaurant isn't big and can be quite crowded during meal times. Despite the bustling crowd, the servers still put on a great smile and positive friendly attitude towards the customers. Ordering is done by the server by a tablet. All prices seen on the menu are inclusive of gst and there is no service charge.

We had 4 dishes in all today:

1. Quarter steam white chicken ($8.50) - priced reasonably at this price, the soft and tender chicken is enough for 2 persons to share. The sauce drizzled on the chicken was delicious and it goes real well with the fragrant chicken rice and chilli sauce. Rating: 4.3/5

2. Garlic dou miao ($12) - we ordered the medium size dish since we are vege lovers. The portion was generous and very fragrantly fried. Rating: 4/5

3. Salted egg pork ribs ($10) - lovely salted egg buttery sauce drizzled over tenderly fried pork pcs. One of the better salted egg pork rib dishes we gave tried. Rating: 4.2/5

4. Hotplate tou fu ($10) - sizzling fresh egg tofu on egg with seafood, vege and mince pork. Nothing very special but definitely tasted good as well. Rating: 3.8/5

Bugis Street Chuen Chuen, since 1979, has been famous for their delicious chicken rice. It started with a stall at Rocher hawker center and now it has become a restaurant of its own selling other tze char dishes.

Since many has already reviewed on their delicious chicken rice, we decided to try their tze char dishes instead. We ordered their recommended assam fish head ($26) and poached kailan ($8) as side dish.

The fish head portion was really huge!! Besides the big and fresh fish head, there were lots of vegetables, taupok, brinjal, ladys finger and also pineapples and tomatoes.

The gravy was sourish and spicy and opens our appetite. The dish was more than enough for 2 of us and we regreted ordering the poached kailan. The kailan was the typical chicken rice vegetable dish.

正新记 Famous Chicken Rice was founded in 1971. With the ever changing demands, the restaurant not only serves chicken rice but many other side dishes, dim sum and steamboat too.

The branch at WestMall is latest shop opened located on the 2nd level beside Swenson. Prices are nett with just service charge applicable. The restaurant was bright, spacious and clean. Looking through the menu, we went for the following dishes:

1. Poached white chicken rice ($4.80) - was rather disappointing as rice was plain and no flavor. Fortunately the chicken still tasted ok. Rating: 2.5/5

2. Soy sauce chicken noodle ($4.80) - the oil used to mix the noodle might have gone bad as there was very strong rancid oil smell and taste. The chicken was tough as well. Rating: 2/5

3. Fried springroll ($4.50) - one of the better dishes. The oil taste was rather strong but at least it was crunchy and fresh inside. Rating: 3/5

4. Siew Mai ($4.50) - the best dish of all. Crunchy fresh siew mai topped with prawn on the top. Rating: 3.5/5

5. Braised chicken feet ($4.50) - it was overly peppery in taste, probably to cover the strong taste. Rating: 3/5

6. Traditional grandma chap chye in claypot ($9.80) - a dish really not acceptable. It was slightly burnt and tasteless. Vegetables are hard as well. Very lacking in taste. Rating: 1.5/5

7. Peanut chicken feet soup ($5) - the soup was plain and peanut very hard. Guess those double boiled soup sold outside tasted better. Rating: 2/5

Overall 正新记 Famous Chicken Rice is rather disappointing. Improvements should be made to the dishes to attract more customers to return.

Sin Kee, during the early 90's, was one of the most notable chicken rice hawker stalls. His children has decided to take over their father's food business and decided to introduce other variety of food besides chicken rice.

Besides in Holland Drive, Sin Kee has another shop at Havelock Road. The restaurant is located along the stretch of restaurants where Liang Kee is. The restaurant was very spacious and clean looking but not many tables around. Sin Kee is currently on Fave and we bought $15 worth $30 of food.

We ordered the following:

1. Half combo chicken ($18) - this is a combo of steam white and soy sauce chicken. Chicken was very very tender and portion was huge. We love the soy sauce chicken more as the chicken was more fragrant. The chicken rice was fragrant but not too oily and we love it. Rating: 4/5

2. Sambal kangkong ($8) - homecooked style kangkong that won us over in terms of flavour and taste. Thumbs up! Rating: 4.2/5

3. Wu Xiang ($6) - 5 pcs of crispily fried homemade wu xiang. Spices were enough in the filling and would be even better if they are served with plum sauce. Rating: 4/5

Besides the great food, the chicken rice chilli is commendable as well and will be great for chilli lovers.

With no gst and service charge, this is simply a great family restaurant to enjoy a sumptuous chicken rice meal.

JEW KIT was founded by Mr Teo Jew Kit, an authentic Hainanese when he started selling chicken rice at a small stall in 1992. Besides the original steamed chicken rice, JEW KIT has been creating innovative dishes to go along with the original chicken rice.

The restaurant located at level 2 of Far East Plaza was the latest branch opened. The restaurant was decorated with a nostalgic ambience. Wooden furniture and playing retro music.

There are bird cages hanging from the ceiling as well. With Fave promotion once again, we bought $25 worth $50 voucher. This is applicable to all food and drinks on the ala carte menu. Price is subjected to 7% gst with no service charge.

We ordered 3 dishes in total:

1. Half steamed chicken ($18) - probably a little pricey for half chicken but chicken portion was huge. Chicken was tender but lack the chicken flavor. Tasted rather bland and fortunately that we had the chicken rice chilli to accompany it. The rice was also plain and definitely categorised to be the healthy version. Rating: 3/5

3. Fried garlic kailan ($10) - vegetable portion was generous and rather fragrantly fried. Rating: 3.8/5

For chicken rice, we personally preferred the oilier and unhealthy version. JEW KIT could definitely do better with their original chicken rice.
