Huluruk begins from an old Korean grandmother Halmuni Song where she used her secret recipe to create unique myeon noodles. It started as early as 1945 and through the help of her granddaughter, Halmuni Song managed to rekindle these legendary myeon dishes with many more varieties and choices.

There are currently 2 outlets, at Junction 8 and Novena Velocity. The Bishan outlet offers a much larger variety, from the standard myeon dishes, dumplings, volcano rice and many more sides. The restaurant was crowded during dinner time but fortunately we do not have to queue or wait for long. We ordered 2 main noodle dishes each with 2 sides.

1. Spicy chicken ramyeon ($8.80) - the portion was generous, with lots of chicken pcs and vegetables. The ramyeon was cooked to the right texture, super springy and I simply love the peppery taste.  Rating: 4/5

2. Jajangmyeon ($10.90) - homemade springy ramyeon doused in thick black bean sauce. The taste is not as strong as the Jajangmyeon from Obba and its slightly on the sweet side. But gotta give thumbs up on the springiness of the noodles. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Original dumplings ($6.80) - 6 piping hot pork Korean dumplings accompanied with light soy sauce. Nothing beats the original Myeongdong dumplings. The dumplings are too porky for my liking. Rating: 3.5/5

4. Spicy pork bulgogi ($9.90) - love the spiciness and tenderness of the pork slices. Could go so well with a bowl of white rice. Rating: 4/5

The food serving was prompt and service was attentive. Though some dishes were a hit and miss, we were nevertheless please with our noodle dishes, especially my ramyeon on a cool evening. We should be back to try the rest of their other rice dishes, so do stay tuned.

Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodle had its first stall at Amoy Street Food Center, second one at Boat Quay and with its recent opening of a new stall within Food Republic itself at Somerset 313. Ah Ter is currently run by Gilbert, trader turned hawker who took over his father's business.

The price range in Food Republic is much higher than any of the other 2 stalls, starting from $6.50 for the basic fishball bak chor mee as compared to $3 at Amoy Street Food Center. Listed within The Michelin Guide, Ah Ter noodle is definitely one of the must try Teochew noodles. With it's new opening, the stall is running a promo of $5.50 for their fishball bak chor mee. I opted for their mee kia, which was springy and smooth and well coated with chilli. The fried lard was generous and it gave the noodle an awesome taste. The mince pork, springy fishball was just an awesome combination with the noodles.

We love the bak chor mee and will definitely be back for more!! But maybe this round we will go to their Amoy Street or Boat Quay branch for a value for money portion.

Go Noodle House, a famous Malaysian noodle chain restaurant has opened its first outlet in Singapore at the basement of Somerset 313.

The soup is made of fish stock with more than 40 types of fish bones, giving the soup base an awesome sweetness accompanying with the bursting juiciness of the meatballs. We were there earlier today to avoid the dinner crowd. The restaurant was decorated like a old kungfu inn with many old wine bottles used as wall decoration.

We ordered 2 of their main signature dishes and 2 sides.

1. Signature bursting meatball ($10.90) - the bursting meatballs are made of pork with minced meat inside, resembling very much like Fuzhou yuyuan. Super duper yummy and with the awesome fish soup and huatiao wine poured in, a very delicious soup. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Special dark sauce thick noodle with onsen egg ($8.90) - comes in spicy and non spicy version. The basic comes with a generous portion of spinach, ikan bilis, black fungus, fried shallots and onsen eggs. You can opt for additional ingredient like fishball etc etc. We added in their golden pillow at $2.50 which is their homemade tau kua. You can choose between thick or thin noodles. We opted for their standard ban mee. The texture was great but the dark sauce lacks saltiness. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Five spice meat roll ($4.90) - 1 roll of freshly made fish meat meat roll. Not too bad in taste. Rating: 3.8/5

4. Crispy fuchuk ($4.90) - basically its fried beancurd skin that is crispily fried. I like it with chilli sauce but would be better with mayo. Rating: 3.9/5

All food is subjected to 7% gst and 10% service charge. For the decent bowl of meatball noodle, Go Noodle House can definitely be considered. We should be back to try the rest of their dishes.

Located in the coffee shop at the junction of Serangoon Road & Opal Crescent, Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles stall is managed by Uncle Yap who starts work as early as 3am in the morning to boil the soup so that it has been broiled till it's best. The opening hours are from 7am to 2pm daily and they could be sold out as early as during lunch time especially during the weekends.

We ordered 4 bowls of their dried minced meat noodles, 3 with mee kia and 1 mee pok. Both noodles are cooked to the right texture and it soaks up the broth of the soup which made the noodles extremely tasty. The crispy pork lard accompanying the noodles were simply awesome! Couldn't stop at 1!

One of China's popular Lanzhou Lamian has opened its first outlet here in Singapore at Tiong Bahru Plaza in the food street on the 2nd floor. Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles are popular with for their delicious soup broth and self-made noodles in different sizes and textures.
Sigature Beef Noodle - Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles

There are 6 different flavour of noodles to choose from and one can opt for different noodle texture and size. We are simply spoilt for choices as we have 8 different noodle types to choose from. We opted for 2 of their most popular type: the normal and small flat noodles.

Kevin chose signature beef noodle with small flat noodles. You can choose to add chili, coriander and leek. I opted for their dry chicken noodle with normal noodles. We fell in love with the sweet soup broth which was light yet flavorful. The texture of the small flat noodle was Q and perfect. The normal noodles are awesome as well.

Highly recommend the dry noodles with their special vinegar and dried chili. Both noodles are priced at $8.90 for small bowl and $11.90/$10.90 for large bowl.

Ding Ji, part of Fei Siong Group, has 39 outlets in Singapore. Ding Ji's specialty is its teochew style noodles like fishball noodles and minced pork noodles with mushroom, also known as bak chor mee. Their fishballs are known for its softness and delicacy.

We were at their Jurong East outlet today to give the noodles a try. Kevin had their signature noodle. The signature noodles come in generous portion of ingredients like fishball, fried scallop, ngoh hiang, fish cake, minced pork and braised mushroom.

Noodles were cooked to the right texture but was a little dry. Overall flavoring so tasty and delicious. I ordered their mini wok noodle. The mini work had similar ingredients like their signature noodle but missing the fried scallop.

It was substituted with crabmeat stick instead. Soup was tasty and flavoring for mee pok well done as well.

Big Bern, owned by previous Botak Jones owner, is back in action. Located at Depot Road industrial coffee shop, it serves as a good American stall for the workers and office staff working ard. HP staff are entitled 10% off all food menu.

Just beside it is the famous Wong Kee wanton noodle which is popular for their spinach and tomato char siew dumpling noodles. With our usual lunch gang, we decided to give these stalls a try.

We ordered Cajun chicken and BBQ chicken with mushroom soup from Big Bern. Portion shown is the small size version but definitely very filling. Verdict: food is spicy, including the soup. Good for adults but not for kids. Chicken is flavoufully marinated and tender.

The char siew dumpling noodles were good as well. Nothing too special abt the spinach noodles as it tasted like normal mee pok except for its color. The tomato one was better. Could taste the tomato. Dumplings are big and juicy. 2 thumbs up for that.

The recently renovated Food Opera at Ion Orchard is much brighter as compared to last time and more seats are available. Some of the old stalls like Scotts Beef Noodles, Fortune restaurant dim sum remains at their old location.

Just opposite the bak kut teh stall, a new stall known as Great World Noodle House caught our attention. Crispy fresh fried chicken cutlet piled up against the glass.

Looking through the menu, the stall is recommended for their chicken chop noodle and fried rice. I ordered the noodle while Kevin had salted fish fried rice.

My noodle portion was large. Large has more chicken and vegetables. One pc cutlet was cut into slices and placed on top of saucy noodles. The cutlet was tastily fried, very crispy indeed.

Sauce for the noodles was good and was tasty enough to cover the noodle gheey taste. Kevin's fried rice is another strongly recommended dish.

Each rice grain is so springy and fried with generous portion of ingredients. Very good fried rice and comparable to some good tze char stall.

For desserts, we had coro coro from Bread Society. It is actually crispy creme puff topped with almond bits. Not too bad...
