Merci Marcel is a French cuisine restaurant that introduces French social dining concept with creative menu that is specially great for sharing among company.

Merci Marcel at Club Street - Paulin's Munchies

Admist the busy Central working district, Merci Marcel is very well-received by both working company and others during the day. We were there for a daytime brunch. Reservations are preferred, especially if one wants to sit indoors. We were happy to be able to get a table at 11am as the restaurant is fully booked during lunch time. The cosy rattan chairs with tiled table added chic look to the whole restaurant.

We ordered 2 mains and 2 cappuccino.

1. Organic poached eggs ($23) - generous portion of avacado, poached eggs on sourdough bread.  The eggs were so nicely done and the pomegranate bits added the crunch and texture to the toast. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Smoked salmon burger ($21) - soft bagel burger spread with cream cheese, topped with avacado slices and smoked salmon. Bon appetite!  Rating: 4.3/5

The cappuccino roast were just nice as well and could go well without sugar. Besides the delicious food, we were also pleased with their service and staff friendliness. Merci Marcel is definitely a great place for brunch with family or friends.

A-roy Thai is a family oriented Thai restaurant that serves a wide range of authentic Thai food. Located at the 3rd floor of Novena Square Velocity, this bustling family restaurant is packed with customers during meal times. Besides walk-in customers, many tables are under reservation accompanied with food delivery.

We were welcomed by friendly staff who showed us to our table. The entire restaurant is renovated with wooden floor and furnitures, giving the typical Thai ambience. We ordered 3 mains and 1 side for dinner this evening. Food was promptly served within 5mins of ordering.

1. Thai prawn cake fritter ($3.90 per pc) - min ordering of 2pcs, this delicious lightly fried breaded prawn fritter was so well done. It is not too overly fried and thus retaining the freshness of the juicy prawn meat. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Stir fried cashew nut chicken ($15.90) - fragrantly fried chicken slices with generous portion of cashew nuts, capsicums and onions. The dish was well balanced in taste. Rating: 4/5

The Garden Kitchen, located at 10 Raeburn Park, is a restaurant serving Chinese fusion ala-carte buffet dishes. For the location, it's indeed "ulu" as one will need to take a 20mins walk from Outram MRT station as it is situated in the industrial building.

The Garden Kitchen at Raeburn Park - Paulin Munchies

The restaurant was spacious as we walked in and we were served by friendly staff. What attracted us was the beautifully decorated central seating area with hanging flowers. Unfortunately the seats were being reserved. Else it will be nice if diners could enjoy their food under this beautiful ambience. The rest of the restaurant was quite poorly lit.

The buffet there are 2 timings for the buffet, 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Diners are given 1.5hrs to eat upon the first order. Buffet is priced at $36.90 per person for Fri/Sat/Sun for dinner and can upgrade to imperial buffet by adding $20. We opted for their standard buffet.

Food was promptly served upon the first order. Only the black pepper crab and deep fried fish is a one-time serving. The crab weren't fresh and the fish was overly fried. We ordered most of their ala-carte dishes, but frankly was rather disappointed with the food quality.

Dishes like the roasted duck/chicken were tad too salty and most of the fried dishes are overly fried with a strong oil taste.

The Garden Kitchen at Raeburn Park ala-carte buffet dishes

The best dishes to order were salted egg ribs, sweet n sour pork, black pepper venison and probably the cereal prawns.

The Garden Kitchen at Raeburn Park ala-carte buffet dishes

As for the rest, there could be other tze char stalls that are worthy of your stomach space and calories.

Fortunately with the ongoing promotion of 3 adults and 1 free, it is still acceptable but food quality could definitely be improved to attract more people.

1. SIRACHA CHICKEN ($14.90) - boneless chicken pcs topped with fiery siracha sauce and mayo. The hotplate side dish was then flamed with melty mozzarella cheese. Delicious side to try. Rating: 4/5

Pratunam by Soi Thai Soi Nice is a new express joint opened at the Westgate basement near Hao Excellence supermarket. It took over Thai Bowl previously. Pratunam offers several affordable Thai street food at very reasonable prices, with choices like Khao Tom Haeng (dry rice porridge) and Tom Yum Mama.

There wasn't much crowd on a weekday evening. Ordering is self-service at the counter and customers are expected to self-collect their food upon queue no called. We ordered 2 of their popular noodle mains and 2 sides:

1. Tom yum mama ($10) - absolutely delicious thick tomyum soup with generous ingredients. The noodles are cooked to the right al dente and it resemble a little like Korean Budae jigae with cabbage, spam, sausage, homemade meatballs as ingredients. I really love their meatballs. So soft, chewy and delicious. A must order dish. Rating: 4.2/5

In continuation of my home bakery review of cream cheese garlic bread, Edible Creations by Siti is another worth trying home bakery for their cream cheese garlic bread. Edible Creations by Siti is a Muslim-owned and 100% Halal home bakery. Both self collection and delivery is available. Priced at $24.30 for 6pcs after discount, each bun size is good for 1 person.

The buns are soft and fluffy, with loads of cream cheese and strong garlic butter. The pc of lemon slice added the zesty taste to the bread so that you will not feel sick after eating one whole bun and could go for more. For those who prefers stronger cream cheese filling, the buns from Edible Creations by Siti would be the one for you.

Cream cheese garlic bread, a popular Korean street snack, is taking a storm in Singapore recently. So many bakeries in SG is joining in the baking craze to create these delicious finger lickin' good bread.

Cream cheese garlic bread - Farine Affair

I have tried several popular bakery version like from Paris Baguette, Swee Heng, Baker's Talent etc etc. Now it's time to review on home bakeries. Farine Affair is my highly recommended home bakery for cream cheese garlic bread. Selling at 4 buns at $27.50, though price is a little steep, it's definitely worth it! The size of each bun is good for sharing among 2 and besides cream cheese, the buns are topped with cheddar/mozzarella cheese as well which added to the saltiness of the bread. The overall combi was awesome accompanied by the chewiness of the buns.

Cream cheese garlic bread is not always available on their menu thus, if it's available, do try get a chance at it. It's 😋😋.

Citrus By The Pool is a Halal-certified cafe restaurant located at Woodlands Swimming Complex. The cafe serves Western and Asian Fusion cuisine whereby diners are able to enjoy the delicious food creations amidst the cosy homely ambience.

We did not dine-in today but opted for their delivery option. We ordered their must-try Chicken steak-out ($10.90) and spicy goreng linguine with cajun chicken ($9.80).

Citrus By The Pool at Woodlands - Paulin's Munchies

It was affordable price wise and portion was generous. Chicken steak-out comprises of juicy chicken thigh fillet seasoned with herbs and grilled to perfect tenderness. The sides include fries, calamari and salad with homemade mushroom sauce. We love the unique creamy mushroom sauce. Rating: 4.2/5

Huluruk begins from an old Korean grandmother Halmuni Song where she used her secret recipe to create unique myeon noodles. It started as early as 1945 and through the help of her granddaughter, Halmuni Song managed to rekindle these legendary myeon dishes with many more varieties and choices.

There are currently 2 outlets, at Junction 8 and Novena Velocity. The Bishan outlet offers a much larger variety, from the standard myeon dishes, dumplings, volcano rice and many more sides. The restaurant was crowded during dinner time but fortunately we do not have to queue or wait for long. We ordered 2 main noodle dishes each with 2 sides.

1. Spicy chicken ramyeon ($8.80) - the portion was generous, with lots of chicken pcs and vegetables. The ramyeon was cooked to the right texture, super springy and I simply love the peppery taste.  Rating: 4/5

2. Jajangmyeon ($10.90) - homemade springy ramyeon doused in thick black bean sauce. The taste is not as strong as the Jajangmyeon from Obba and its slightly on the sweet side. But gotta give thumbs up on the springiness of the noodles. Rating: 3.8/5

Jajangmyeon - Huluruk

3. Original dumplings ($6.80) - 6 piping hot pork Korean dumplings accompanied with light soy sauce. Nothing beats the original Myeongdong dumplings. The dumplings are too porky for my liking. Rating: 3.5/5

4. Spicy pork bulgogi ($9.90) - love the spiciness and tenderness of the pork slices. Could go so well with a bowl of white rice. Rating: 4/5

The food serving was prompt and service was attentive. Though some dishes were a hit and miss, we were nevertheless please with our noodle dishes, especially my ramyeon on a cool evening. We should be back to try the rest of their other rice dishes, so do stay tuned.

Ajumma's was inspired by the aunties in Seoul's market alley selling homemade, hearty and iconic dishes of Korea. The 1st branch of Ajumma's was at The Cathay and it opened a 2nd branch at the lively and hipster Funan mall. The branch at Funan was rather small. With the safe distancing measures, it could barely accommodate 20 people.

Fortunately we were there earlier for dinner and had a chance to eat in comfort without having to queue. Spoilt for choices, we decided to go for all their highly recommended dishes:

1. Kalbi beef ($14.90) - tender prime beef rib slices marinated in homemade kalbi sauce. I found the beef a little too tough for my liking but the taste was good. Rating: 3.6/5

Korean fried chix has always been welcome by many, especially during this time of year where travelling to Korea seems impossible. With the demand, more Korean fried chix restaurant is opening in Singapore.

Ahtti is one of them opened at Jurong East Vision Exchange, serving authentic Korean cuisine owned by Koreans. The restaurant itself is small, with just 4 tables indoors and another 6 tables outdoors. We opted for the outdoor seating as the ventilation indoors isn't very good and the restaurant smells of fried chix. We ordered as below:

1. Yangneom whole chicken ($34) - 12pcs of tenderly fried chix so crispy on the skin and tender within. We chose original and yangneom. The yangneom sauce was awesome. We simply love it and it's finger linkin' good. The original crispy chix was ordinary but tasted quite good with the sweet sauce accompanying it.  The crunch of the chicken is good. Rating: 3.9/5

2. 8pcs Chilli padi chicken wings and drumlettes ($18) - a local flavour that suits one who love spicy dishes. Interesting combi but doesn't give the wow factor. Rating: 3.5/5

3. Cold noodles ($12) - large portion but was disappointed in its taste as it was watery and not spicy enough. Rating: 3/5

4. Rolled fried omelette ($12) - delicious fluffy rolled omelette served on sizzling hotplate. Tasted so yummy and we love the egg fluffiness. Rating: 4/5

Prices on the menu at Ahtti is definitely reasonable and decent to try. Fridays and wkends can be quite crowded thus would be better to make reservations to avoid waiting and queuing. Ahtti could be considered a hidden korean fried chix gem other than the usual chir chir chicken etc.
