Maxi Mango originated from Davao, Philippines and has more than 43 outlets in the Philippines. It arrived in Singapore in July 2019 last year with its first flagship stall setup in Capitol Piazza.
Mango with Graham - Maxi Mango

Maxi Mango is known for their mango soft serve ice cream topped with Cebu mangoes. The soft serves comes in 2 sizes, 8 oz and 12 oz at $4.90 and $6.90 respectively. We decided to try their Mango Graham, which comes with ice cream, sweet cream, mango cubes and Graham crackers. We thought the graham crackers tasted a little weird with the ice cream. The ice cream itself was not overly sweet and so it goes well with the sweet cream. The only drawback was the weird tasting graham crackers.

There was no more crowd in line unlike their first launch. Hopefully Maxi Mango would be able to sustain as we still see many going for our usual yogurt and bubble tea as desserts.

Project Acai is Singapore's first dedicated acai cafe, offering acai bowls and smoothies. The cafe is dairy free, vegan friendly and gluten free. The bowls are all prepared freshly daily, with loads of fresh fruits and superfood toppings.

As of today, Project Acai has 4 branches, with the branch at Takashimaya being one of their first 2 branches. Located at B2 opposite KOI cafe, it is often seen with many people queuing up for their delicious bowl. Project Acai has 3 sizes to offer for their bowls, handy, medium or large with prices ranging from $6.80 to $14.50. There are 3 flavours to choose from: Original flower bowl, Nuts for Acai bowl and Co-yoghurt acai bowl.
Original flower bowl - Project Acai

We opted for their popular medium Original flower bowl @ $9.30. It comprises of blended acai base, served with 14 different toppings which includes granola, fruits and superfoods. The combination was delicious and definitely serves as a great dessert, snack or meal. For those who are thirsty and looking for something to quench the thirst, acai smoothie can be opted.

Though a little pricey, we still found it worthwhile with its freshness and nutrition. We will definitely visit it to try the other 2 flavours. Yummy yummy!

Chef Icon started in 2008 with the philosophy of using the finest and most natural ingredients to produce the best product. It started with the small shop at Kampong Bahru and now it has opened its 2nd bakery shop at 112 Katong.

Chef Icon's best 3 cakes include their signature and highly recommended Chocolate Travona Cake, Hokkaido Swiss rolls and New York Cheesecake. All of these cakes are baked with natural ingredients only.

The small cosy shop has only 5 tables and not much customers at all. The customers mainly opt for takeaway for their birthday cake. We ordered their BlackForest cake @ $42.80 as I’m not a pure chocolate lover. The cake was fluffy, not sweet and simply awesome in taste. The chocolate was so rich in flavour and we simply loved the cake.

For chocolate lovers, please try going for their Chocolate Travona cake. Though the cake can be a little pricey for the size, all of us unanimously still found it awesome with coffee or tea. Please remember to call and order at least 3 days in advance.

Smooy is a Spanish franchise that manufactures and sells the first functional frozen yogurt on the market in 2010. With very similar concept to its competitor llaollao, it offers an even wider range of sauces and toppings to go with the yogurt. Besides yogurt, they offer soft serve ice cream as well.

This newly open yogurt franchise at JEM attracted customers with its bright red shop name and white and clean interior. There are a few seats available for customers to rest their feet to enjoy a cup of delicious cold yogurt or ice cream.

In terms of sauce toppings, there are about 10 of them. From peanut butter crunch to chocolate. Thick delicious toppings to go with the plain yogurt. Besides sauces, there are the usual fruit toppings and crunches. The customers are definitely spoilt for choices. We went for their medium size yogurt with 2 toppings at $5.80. We chose peanut crunch and hazelnut crunch sauce. The yogurt is thicker and much more sourish than llaollao and the sauce accompanying neutralizes the sourness. A very good combination.

Instead of joining the queue at llaollao, customers can really consider Smooy. Yummilicious!

Located on the 2nd level of BreadTalk IHQ, Everton Creamery offers a range of deliciously made gelato. Priced at $4.90 per scoop or $8 for double, there are about 14 flavors to choose from.

A recommended will be their yuanyang which is chinese peanut butter with black sesame.

Mei Heong Yuan Dessert originated from Farmer's Brand groundnuts. Currently this dessert chain is taken care of by 2 daughters of the original Mei Heong Yuan founder. With their first stall at Chinatown, it has built a reputation for its popular and delicious hot desserts like peanut and sesame paste. They are so rich and smooth!

We were at their Clementi Mall branch after dinner. Located just beside the NTUC foodfare foodcourt, Mei Heong Yuan offers cold desserts like Taiwanese snow ice and savoury snacks like pumpkin/carrot cake etc.

We decided to go for their peanut tang yuan in ginger soup. For $3, it offers 4 tang yuan in clear ginger soup.

Mei Heong Yuen Dessert at Clementi Mall - Paulin's Munchies

I would feel that the tang yuan was really ordinary, like the ready made kind and a little overcook as it was rather soft. However, the ginger soup base was awesome. Hot and spicy and you could feel your throat burning a little. Recommended for those who really love ginger.

Kazo took Singapore by storm earlier this year in January. With their outlet opened at Chinatown Point, many cream puff lovers flocked there to try their light and fluffy puffs.

We ordered their 2 most popular puffs: Polo with hokkaido cream ($3) and kazu kazu ($3.50).

There are 3 creams to choose from: hokkaido cream, chocolate and matcha. We both opted for their most popular hokkaido cream. Both the polo and kazu were very light in their pastry. So porous and fluffy unlike those from Bread Papa. The cream was also much lighter and refreshing. Not too sweet.  The kazu has the crunch which added to the extra texture.

For puff lovers, we definitely recommend to try Kazo. Its all worth the calories they have.

One Ice Cafe, a mini open concept cafe located within J Avenue of Jcube, offers an affordable range of Korean bingsu which is rather popular among the students. Usual bingsus in Orchard can easily cost $12.90 and above but the bingsus here all cost less than $10.

The cafe has introduced belgium waffles with ice cream to add on the variety. Only 2 kinds are available: the buttermilk ($8.80) and red velvet ($11.80). Each waffle comes with one scoop of vanilla, chocolate or matcha ice cream and topped with chocolate syrup.
Buttermilk waffle - One Ice Cafe at Jcube Jurong East - Paulin's Munchies

We opted for the buttermilk one with vanilla ice cream. The waffle is freshly prepared upon ordering. It is indeed crispy on the outside and fluffy and light on the inside.

What is lacking will be the waffle flavour. The chocolate syrup covered the taste entirely. Would prefer a more fragrant tasting waffle. Ice cream was a little hard but overall still acceptable.

Guess One Ice Cafe still offers better bingsu as compared to their waffle desserts.

Originated from Japan in 2011, Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory uses quality cheese and milk ingredients to make their products. It has finally arrived from Tokyo to Singapore and we are here to try out their all famous cheese soft serve.

They are 4 choices to choose from: milk, cheese, twist or sundae. Prices are from $4.50 to $8.50. We opted for their twist in cup instead of cheese cone. The twist is cheese and milk mix. One word to describe: AWESOME!!

The soft serve is so smooth and melts in our mouth. The cheese flavour added the slight salty taste which was a superb combination. Though a little pricey, its definitely worth the money!

Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory is definitely a great place for dessert after a meal and we will be back to indulge in their sundae which comes with a slice of cake and biscuits.

MILK MOONS, the other cake company, is a new cake stall setup at the basement of Takashimaya just beside Tai Cheong Bakery. Very similar to Chalk Farm at Paragon, it sells cakes like kueh selat, kueh lapis and very local fusion cakes like pandan durian. Prices are ranged above $5 per slice.

The thick huge cakes attracted us to it and we went for their pandan INTI ($8). It is pandan sponge cake with gula melaka cream and coconut. The pandan cake is made of fresh pandan leave juices. It was soft, moist and delicious.

The gula melaka coconut strips were a little sweet and thickly sliced but overall was still a good pc of cake with a cup of black coffee or tea. We will be back to try the other recommended flavors like coffee almond cream and pandan durian.

The stall is having 10% discount on all cakes since the stall is new.

dessertstory started in Singapore in 2007 with their vision of providing traditional, healthy Asian desserts for the young and old at any time. With many branches across Singapore, they are recommended for their hot desserts like black sesame paste and cold desserts like shaved ice and mango puddings.

Recently they have introduced a new Taiwanese all favourite dessert called the peanut candy ice cream roll. This is a popular must eat dessert at 九份. Priced at $3.50, this dessert is actually shaved peanut candy with yam ice cream wrapped in popiah skin.
dessertstory at Tiong Bahru Plaza - Paulin's Munchies

The yam ice cream was thick and creamy and tasted awesome with the shaved peanut candy but with the corriander added, it tasted totally weird. A little too strong in taste for our liking.

Nevertheless, it still serve as a good alternative for those who crave for it without having to go to Taiwan but will be good if they put in less corriander.

Dessert time after sharing a wonderful bowl of Japanese curry. We went to Cake Spade located along the bridal shops for a slice of dessert to satisfy our sweet tooth. Cake Spade is a small cosy cafe serving many variety of English homemade cakes with the more popular flavours being their cheesecakes and chocolate cakes.

We ordered a slice of pomegranate red velvet cake to try. The slice is big for its $7.20 worth but we were a little disappointed with the taste. Had expected the cake to be soft and fine but it was rather coarse and hard. The overa taste was still delicious and it was great that it is not too sweet.

For gelato lovers, we would like to recommend this new gelato stall Giovanni L. at Tanjong Pagar Center. The stall is located beside Hans and together with Seattle Pike Chowder. There are 12 flavors of gelato to choose from with their award winning Pistachio gelato as the no. 1 flavor.

We went for my classic favourite After 8 mint today to satisfy my craving. Classic single scoop gelato is priced at $4.80.  Each scoop is served with a pc of crispy butter waffle biscuit. This is definitely one of the best gelato I have eaten. Smooth, creamy and so rich in flavor, especially with the minty dark chocolate. Simply awesome and we enjoyed every single spoon of it.

Mille Crepe - Henri Charpentier at Orchard Central - Paulin's Munchies

We were at their Orchard Central branch to eat their lovely and pretty cakes for dessert. We ordered their recommended mille crepe. One slice cost $9.60. Seriously pricey for one slice of cake but we enjoyed it.
Mille Crepe - Henri Charpentier at Orchard Central - Paulin's Munchies

The fresh creme in between each layer was thin and the last layer was lined with a very thin layer of sponge. It is not as sinful and filling as the mille crepe from Lady M. The crepe is much thicker as compared to Lady M's.

Henri Charpentier offers very good cakes with coffee and dessert lovers will definitely love them though cost is a little pricey.

Char-Grill Bar, a wallet friendly western food stall, offers value for money and delicious western food at affordable prices. Found in several coffee shops across Singapore, customers can choose from chicken, fish, ribeye steaks, pastas and many other sides from the menu.

We were at their Jurong East stall for dinner this evening. Char-Grill Bar is located within FoodClique coffee shop by Kimly. We had cajun chicken, fish and chips and topped up $1.50 for their shitake mushroom soup.
Shitake mushroom soup - Char-Grill Bar (at FoodClique) at Jurong East - Paulin's Munchies

The soup was pure ordinary. Just cream of mushroom with some shitake mushroom bits in it. For their main course, the fish and chips ($6.90, rating: 3.8/5) was more value for money and delicious as compared to the cajun chicken ($7.90, rating: 3/5).

Cajun chicken - Char-Grill Bar (at FoodClique) at Jurong East - Paulin's Munchies

The breaded fish fillet was deep fried till crispy on the outside while maintaining the softness of the fish within. The tartare sauce accompanying it was awesome. There are 2 sides that one could choose from and Kevin opted for chips and coleslaw.

My cajun chicken was tender but failed to have the cajun taste. It tasted more like ordinary melted cheese grilled chicken. The onion rings accompanying the main was good and could be comparable to that of Burger King.

Nothing beats a wonderful dessert after meal. We explored Dofu at basement of Jcube. Dofu is a small dessert stall offering black soya soft serve and pudding. For $5.60 per cup, one cam choose either pure soya soft serve or mixture of soft serve and pudding with 5 toppings.
Black soya soft serve - Dofu at Jurong East - Paulin's Munchies

We opted for lychee popballs, peaches, peanut, coconut flakes and oreo biscuits. The initial mouth tasted weird but the flavor grows with u after a while. Could taste the soya taste and richness of it. Not too sweet at all. A dessert to try other than froyo.

Cafe hopping has been one of our favorite past times during weekends and overseas. Located at Jalan Kubor near Arab Street, Symmetry Cafe looks like a hip cafe from the interior. Furnished with wooden furniture, the interior is dark and blasted with lively hip music. There are many young servers in the cafe.

We were there for drinks and dessert. We ordered iced flat white, cold brew, nectar smoothie and immunity booster.
