Five Guys, America all popular burger chain has finally landed in Singapore after Shake Shack opened it's 1st outlet at Jewel. Located at the 1st floor at the entrance of Plaza Singapura, snake queue is expected during peak hours and there aren't many seats available in this fast food restaurant.

Five Guys' menu is rather simple, with choice of cheese or ham burgers and hotdogs.

For vegetarians, they have the vegetable burger option as well.
Vegetable Burger with Cheese - Five Guys

All burgers come with free toppings and it's really up to you on how you would like to customize it. Most people would go for their All The Way topping which includes mayo, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mustard. I am one who usually dislike pickles but Five Guys pickles are so good and balance that I dun mind going for 2nd helping of it.
Little Cheese Burger - Five Guys

The beef patty itself is so moist and tender and with the soft buns and awesomely good toppings, the burger was a heavenly combination. Price range of the burgers are from $11 to $17. Rating: 4.3/5

As sides, we bought the large cajun and original fries ($11 each). The fries are freshly cut and fried with peanut oil. The cajun ones are a little salty and we all preferred the original. Rating: 3.9/5.
Cajun Fries - Five Guys

While waiting for food, we can help ourselves with the free ground nuts serving. The nuts are delicious!

Other than the crowd, for any burger eaters, Five Guys can definitely be considered as one of the best burger fast food chains around. So do come visit this wonderful fast food restaurant for a sinfully good meal!

Scrambled, located at Icon Village Tanjong Pagar, offers different variety of scrambled eggs focused brioche buns. Choices include the minimal scrambled egg brioche with a wide range of ingredients like spam, cheese, hashbrown and smoked salmon that could be added to the basics brioche. The brioche are ordered from the Michelin starred Burnt Ends and are toasted with butter to perfection upon ordering.

We were there for early lunch and was fortunate enough to beat the lunch crowd. Ordering is to be done at the counter and a food buzzer will be provided for triggering when food is ready. We ordered their signature scrambled stack ($14.90) and topped up additional $4.50 for signature fries and drink. The scrambled stack includes spam, cheese, avacado, scrambled eggs and hashbrown. It was a huge bun and very delicious with their special made sauce. However, it's a little messy to handle as it's too big to put into the mouth at one time. Rating: 4/5
Smoked salmon bun - Scrambled

Their signature fries are tossed with chilli powder and parsley, which gave it a very good taste and flavour. We enjoyed the fries a lot as well. Rating: 4/5

Smoked salmon was the other choice that we opted for ($11.90). Its smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and cheese with mentaiko mayo. A little disappointed with this bun as it was a little too fishy for the salmon. Did not really like it. Rating: 3.5/5.

We tried their new creation of honey chicken wing ($2.50) as well. This was very nicely marinated and fried. Cannot be compared to those Korean fried chix but very nicely done. Rating: 3.8/5

Burger+ at Wisma Atria

We love the comfortable trendy neon ambience of the restaurant. For just the 2 of us, we were spoilt for choices as all the burgers looked so good. We decided to go for all their signature items:

1. Avacado bacon cheeseburger ($17.20) - soft and fluffy potato bun with butter stuffed with 130g of tender beef patty, avacado, bacon, seared onion and cheddar cheese. 2 thumbs up for this burger. A must try! Rating: 4.3/5

2. Truffle fries ($9.80) - potato fries with truffle oil, truffle mayo, truffle powder and cheddar cheese. It's basically truffle overload and a must must order for truffle fries lover. Rating: 4.4/5

3. Honey chicken ($9.80) - we ordered their 6pcs drumlett and Wingette. Tenderly fried chicken so crispy on the outside and tossed with their signature honey sauce. Not overly sweet and very evenly coated. One of the best chicken that we have eaten so far. Rating: 4.4/5

We are very very happy with our dinner and we would highly recommend Burger+ to all! Do come early to avoid the crowd during dinner time and do stay tuned for my review on the rest of the menu which includes their all-day breakfast.

ToriGo, a Halal certified restaurant, serves a wide range of chicken dishes, very similar concept to its competitor TenderFresh.

Ranging from bbq to fried chicken to pasta and rice, ToriGo has also started to offer non-chicken dishes like Fish and Chips and Salmon pasta.

The branch at Hillion is a small restaurant with about 20 to 30 seaters. Ordering is self service at the cashier. We ordered the below for dinner:

1. Giant bbq leg ($7.90) - this is a value for money dish with a giant bbq leg with rice and coleslaw. The leg was tenderly done and it goes well with the chicken flavored rice. Rating: 3.5/5

2. Bbq whole chicken ($13.90) - whole bbq kampong chicken tenderly grilled to retained its meat juiciness and freshness. Personally, would prefer TenderFresh as the chicken is more flavourful. Rating: 3.5/5

3. Cheesy fries ($4.50) - thumbs-up for this dish. Crispily fried fries topped with mayo, nacho cheese and curry powder. The combination was awesomely good. Rating: 4/5

Located conveniently below Jurong East MRT right just outside Kopitiam, Monster Burger is a Korean burger chain opened under the same management as Chicken Up.

Why named Monster Burger? Coz 1 of their signature dish is this huge gigantic burger about 20cm in diameter that can be shared by 2 or more.

The burger is not available today so we opted for their main dish meal instead. Kevin had shark with garlic fried rice. Its $7 before gst and comes with 1 free drink. There is a range of sauces to choose from and we opted for the spicy one. Not too spicy afterall.
Shark with garlic fried rice - Monster Burger at Jurong East - Paulin's Munchies

The shark tasted like Manhatten fish market fish and chips. Thin batter coating the shark flesh. For those who don't like fishy taste, opt for their seabass version instead. The garlic fried rice is real garlicky and sticky. On average. Verdict: 3.5/5

We will be back to try their monster burger when its available and hopefully will be better.

Sticky Wing has oftenly been mistaken to be the Sticky Wings from London. However it is actually a home grown brand that is very much similar to some other Korean fried chicken fastfood.

Area was spacious and food is self service after ordering at the counter. We ordered their promotional drumchucks at $7.50 for 3 pcs. I tried all of the 3 flavours, spicy, sticky and original. I love the sticky version the best as it is very well marinated. The spicy one is too hot for our liking.

Kevin had black belt which comes with 1 drumstick and 3 wings. This dish cost $11. The salted egg salsa fries ($5.50) deserves thumbs up. The yuzu coleslaw was ordinary tasting.

This is another Korean fast food concept stall by M.O.F. Offering very similar range of food like Jjnjja Chicken, Cafe MaMa seems to have failed in comparison in taste during their 1st day of operations.

Today is their grand opening of their shop at 5th floor of Clementi Mall just opposite the community library. The interior design is also quite similar to that of Jjnjja Chicken but area was slightly smaller.

Ordering is to be done at the counter and food is to be self collected when buzzer rings. The queue was a little chaotic as there was no proper indication. The staff at the counter seems a little inexperience and there were a few mistakes with the orders.

We ordered for 2pc chicken thigh and drumstick but was charged for a 6pc meal instead. Though it was supposed to be a fast food concept, the food serving time took very long time. We waited for 15mins before food was being served with lots of mistakes.

We ordered the following:

1. Tuna gimbap ($7.90) - presentation of the gimbap looks good but taste wise was ordinary. The rice was hard and lacking of the rice vinegar taste. Rating: 3/5
Tuna gimbap - Cafe MaMa by M.O.F at Clementi Mall - Paulin's Munchies

2. 2pcs drumstick and thigh with soy sauce ($5.90) - we were served with 6 winglets and drumlets by mistake. The chicken was tough with the skin overly fried and soy sauce not evenly coated. Could really do much improvement with this dish. Rating: 2.5/5
Drumstick and thigh with soy sauce - Cafe MaMa by M.O.F at Clementi Mall - Paulin's Munchies

3. Tteokpokki ($3.90) - this is the most edible and delicious dish among what we have ordered. Tteokpokki was springy and gravy thick and delicious. Rating: 3.5/5
Tteokpokki - Cafe MaMa by M.O.F at Clementi Mall - Paulin's Munchies

4. Kimchi dumpling ramen ($8.90) - priced at a costly $8.90, this is not a value for money dish. The dish was originally served with no kimchi dumplings at all as the chef has forgotten all about. It was kimchi ramen. We requested for a change and the 2nd serving looks better. There were only 2 overly cooked dumplings served in watery instant noodles. Rating: 2/5 Kimchi dumpling ramen - Cafe MaMa by M.O.F at Clementi Mall - Paulin's Munchies

Maybe it was their 1st day in operations, the serving and food would be recommended for more improvement. I was being asked for feedback by the manager and was guaranteed by him to have the food improved with the next few months. With this, we would be back in a few months time, hopefully to see a tremendous improvement in both food and operations. Prices are net with no service charge and gst.

This is the latest offering from McDonalds. With National Day round the corner in Aug, McDonalds is offering a list of food items with blend of local goodness. From nasi lemak chicken burger to desserts like coconut pies and chendol soft serve, McDonalds really amaze one with their ability to blend local taste with burgers.

We tried their Chendol McFlurry today. Surprisingly it was good... Soft serve coconut ice cream with gula melaka and chendol bits. The overall taste was excellent and each mouthful was full of coconut flakes.

Jinjja Chicken is another Korean chicken fast food franchise introduced in SG after many others like 4 fingers, NeNe Chicken etc. Located at the basement of Clementi Mall where previously Long John Silver was, Jinjja Chicken offers quite a wide range of other staple food other than chicken. Some of their recommended dishes are jjajang myeon and gimbap.
Bulgogi beef gimbap - Jinjja Chicken at Clementi Mall - Paulin's Munchies Ordering is self service at the counter and there were ample and comfortable space around to sit and dine. We ordered 4 dishes in all, in aim to give their best food a try. We had:

1. Jinjja soy garlic drumsticks ($8.90) - this is a 3 pc drumstick meal and one can top up $2 for fries and drink. The drumstick was crispy on the outside and marinated with soy garlic sauce. Unfortunately it tasted more sweet than the expected soy taste and there was no taste of garlic. Chicken was fresh but a little disappointed with the sauce. Rating: 3.2/5

3. Jjajang myeon ($7.90) - Kevin's favourite! But was rather disappointed with the jjajang gravy. The noodle was springy but too little gravy and dry. Nothing comparable to Obba jjajang myeon at Tanjong Pagar. Rating: 3/5

4. K fries ($6.90) - K stands for kimchi. It is a delicious mixture of fries, bulgogi beef, kimchi, spam and melted mozerella cheese. Awesomely sinful combination! Rating: 4/5

Finally to our long awaiting trip to the Land of the Rising Sun and Cherry Blossoms, Japan! Travelling to Osaka via Cathay Pacific Airlines, we had to do a stopover and transfer at HK International airport.

At 5am in the morning, we had a quick meal at McDonald's at the transfer area. McDonald's in HK is not halal, so they offer a variety of pork menu. We tried their new egg fritter muffin with ham.

The ham was SPAM pork and scrambled eggs was fried with bell peppers. Having SPAM pork in the muffin was absolutely delicious! The hashbrown on the other hand was not as crispily fried as compared to SG.

Nevertheless, being McDonald's, it never fails to satisfy one's tummy. Hoping one day this muffin variety will be introduced in SG but perhaps using chicken SPAM instead?? 😉

Yoshinoya is a fast-food Japanese rice chain that has been in SG for quite a while. However it has been losing popularity. There used to be quite a no of stalls in SG but now there are less than 10 chains in SG.

We decided to give it a try again since we craved for Japanese rice bowl and wanted a quick meal.

The price has definitely increase tremendously over the yrs.

I used to remember one beef rice bowl would cost abt 5 bucks but now it's 7.90. The combo meal is now 10.90 as compared to previously 8 plus. Kevin ordered their newly introduced chicken yakitori bowl while I had their salmon and beef bowl.
Paulin's Munchies - Yoshinoya at JEM Basement - Salmon and beef bowl

The yakitori was tender and it was quite worth it with the 4 sticks of succulent yakitori. My beef and salmon bowl standard still stays the same as compared to yrs ago.  Beef slices are thinly sliced and soft while salmon patty is crispily fried on the outside. The poached vegetables are just right.
Paulin's Munchies - Yoshinoya at JEM Basement - Chicken Yakitori Bowl

Besides the main, now Yoshinoya offers a great variety of sides like eggs, corns, fried potatoes etc. They also offer ramen and curry rice as well. For healthier options, you can go for skinless chicken with brown rice.

After all these years, Yoshinoya has definitely evolved for the better to cope with the ever demanding crowd.

Tsujiki Men Don Tei is a small japanese restaurant situated at the basement of Westgate beside Isetan supermarket. There are only a few seatings and space is rather cramp so it is not recommended for family with young children. Food is to be ordered from the counter and they will call for ur nos. when ready.

Today's menu is:
1. Assorted inari sushi
2. Curry chicken udon
3. Gyu don
4. Gyoza

The sushi is packed from Edo sushi. Not too bad tasting for its price but the inari from ichiban boshi is still better.

Paulin's Munchies - Tsujiki Men Don Tei at Westgate - Assorted inari sushi

The gyoza is a little too soggy and don't have the crispy crunch like some other japanese restaurants.

The curry chicken udon looks watery at first glance but surprisingly the taste of the curry is still quite strong.

Lastly, the gyo don tasted slightly better than Yoshinoya. Less fatty and better braised.
