Sushiro, Japan's largest conveyor belt sushi chain, has opened its first outlet in Singapore last year at Tiong Bahru Plaza. Recently, it has opened another 2 outlets, at Isetan Shaw Orchard in January and Causeway Point in March.

Sushiro offers more than 100 varieties of sushi, with prices ranging from $2.20 to $4.80. The red plates are priced at $2.20, gold plates at $3.20 and black ones at $4.80. Besides sushi, there are several side dishes like karaage, fried octopus and many many more. The desserts include Hattendo cream buns or puddings and milli crepes
Sushi - Sushiro

Sushi - Sushiro

The Tiong Bahru Plaza outlet is a 162 seater restaurant, with 2 conveyor belts per table. One is for normal sushi and the other specific to your order. Each plate has a sushi chip, which allows the plate to be removed after moving 350m on the belt to guarantee the freshness of the sushi. Billing is done via scanning the plates to count the qty.

We ate 8 x red plates and 1 x gold plates. I would highly recommend pork slice sushi, sword fish sushi, limited edition chicken rice sushi and beef ball sushi. For sides do go for the fried octopus and salmon croquettes. The fried octopus is so tender and and seriously addictive. We opted for the Hattendo coconut pudding with brown sugar, which was sinfully delicious to end the whole meal.

For $2.20 per plate, Sushiro definitely offers the most affordable sushi with guaranteed quality. We will definitely be back for more to try the rest of the dishes!

&JOY Dining Hall is a multi-brand concept that houses several Japanese F&B brands under one roof, in the basement of Jurong Point where its Japanese food street currently resides. There are altogether 7 different Japanese variety food under this one roof: &JOY Eats and Drinks, Wadori, My Gohan, Roman-Tei, Ramen KIOU, Pittarino and Sushi-Go.

We opted Sushi-Go, which was a casual sushi eatery that takes sushi-train concept to a whole new level. The restaurant was spacious, even for seats at the counter. Upon scanning the QR code, ordering can be done via the phone. Mentaiko sushi are their recommended items. Prices range from $1.80 to $7.80. Food is served very promptly upon ordering and all is fulfilled using the train delivery concept. We ordered as follow:

1. Mentaiko salmon and swordfish sushi
2. Chicken karaage
3. Seasoned seaweed
4. Hot soba with tempura prawn
5. Chawamushi
6. Nigiri with eel
7. Teriyaki chicken don
8. Chicken gyoza
9. Agedashi tofu
SuShi - Sushi-Go at &JOY Dining Hall

I would highly recommend their mentaiko sushi series and teriyaki chicken don. The sushi is fresh and tasted very good. The concept of the restaurant is very much like Genki Sushi but we love their food a little more due to its choice range and taste. Hopefully the standard stays as time goes by. We would be back to try the rest of the other concept restaurants thus do stay tuned!

Located at Yishun Town Square beside Northpoint City, One Sushi offers a wide variety of affordable sushi at $1.50 per plate. Just like Sushi Express, these sushi are available on the conveyor belt. Other than these, there are other food varieties as well and the highly recommended ones are their mentaiko dishes. Being mentaiko lovers, we tried majority of their recommended dishes.
One Sushi at Northpoint Drive Yishun - Paulin's Munchies

We had 3 yellow plates at $1.50 each. Basically their salmon sushi, jellyfish and fried fish skin. The fish skin is recommended as its lightly fried yet crispy and not so oily. We had zaru soba ($2.80) which was rather hard, chicken and vegetable gyoza ($3.60), tori karaage ($3.60) , french fries mentai ($3.80), ika mentai ($4.80) and lastly, salmon crepe roll ($8.80).

Of all, we would recommend their ika mentai, french fries mentai and salmon crepe roll. They were generous with their mentaiko and flamed to the right level. Ordered items are sent to you via their auto-cart like Genki.
One Sushi at Northpoint Drive Yishun - Paulin's Munchies

One Sushi is very much like Genki Sushi. In terms of sushi quality, Genki is definitely much preferred. We should not be back anytime in the near future. Hopefully their sushi standard would have improved by then.

Here's a summary of what we had:
Zaru soba
Chicken and vegetable gyoza
Tori karaage
French fries mentai
Ika mentai
Salmon crepe roll

Sushi express has recently launched 2 new items to their menu. Introducing caramalized salmon sushi and cheese prawn sushi, they looked extremely delicious and affordable at $1.50 per plate.

We were at their Clementi Mall outlet and surprising we don't have to queue on a Fri evening. We ordered 16 plates in all with 6 of them just the caramalised salmon sushi and salmon maki. At $1.50, we couldn't ask for more. It was fresh and not fishy. We had the rest like usual tamago sushi, teriyaki saba, mocked abalone etc.

For just $1.50 per plate, customers couldn't really ask for more to satisfy a hungry stomach with a quick meal. It would be great if they start introducing more side dishes like chicken karaage etc.

Another must eat food in Osaka is conveyor sushi. We went to one popular conveyor sushi restaurant called Isono Ryotaro near our accommodation for dinner. Isono Ryotaro is a 130 seater conveyor sushi restaurant located at Namba. Why is this restaurant so popular? The reason is all sushi is priced at 100yen each plate. That is abt $1.30 sgd per plate. Don't think we could get so cheap per plate in SG.

We waited for about 20mins before we got shown to our seats. There was a wide range of sushi to choose from. Priced at 100yen per plate, we could not ask for more. The conveyor sushi at Kyoto that we eaten a few days ago was definitely much nicer.

Paulin's Munchies - Isono Ryotaro at Namba Osaka - Sushi

But considering at this price, the quality could consider to be good. There are other sides like udon and fried chicken which are less than 280yen per plate. We ate 10 plates of sushi, 2 plates of chicken and 1 udon for 1700yen in all. That is less than $24 sgd. Definitely a delicious and affordable meal.

Given another chance, we will still personally prefer to visit some other conveyor belt sushi restaurants for better quality sushi.

Day 4 of our trip today. Today we are bound for Osaka via the JR line. We woke up a little later and went for brunch instead. Fortunately at Kyoto station, there are lots of luggage lockers for travellers to park their luggage in while doing shopping. We did the same and off we go to explore for our brunch.

We went to their popular and affordable conveyor sushi belt restaurant called Musashi for brunch. They open at 10am and we were surprise that they are actually a queue already. We waited for 5 mins and was our turn.

There are about 5 chefs at the counter busy preparing all the sushi. The sushi are all priced at 146yen with only a few premier plates at 346yen.

We took 15 plates in all and must admit that their sushi quality is excellent for their price. The rice isn't a lot and the rice tasted sweet and fragrant. Some sushi that must take are prawn tempura sushi, smoked duck sushi, tamago sushi, unagi sushi and fish roe sushi. The ingredients are so fresh especially for the sea urchin sushi.

It has been 2 years since we last ate at Koh Grill and Sushi Bar. This Japanese restaurant is located on level 4 within Food Republic at Wisma Atria. It is well known for its Shiok maki and long queue.

The queue starts from 530pm in the evening and the waiting time can be long. As we are early in Orchard today and also hungry, we decided to try our luck. Fortunately we do not have to wait for too long before we are shown to our seats at the counter bar.

There is definitely a Shiok maki being ordered on every other table. Without fail, we ordered the same as well. There are "2 generations" of the Shiok maki. The first generation is salmon wrapped with BBQ eel.

The second generation is salmon wrapped with king prawn. Since we are not prawn lovers, we went for generation one instead.

The maki was definitely Shiok as the name says! Flamed to the right texture, the salmon melts into your mouth rather quickly. There are generous portion of fish roe on the top. This is a must order dish.
Paulin's Muchies - Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma Atria - Shiok Maki

Besides maki, we had yaki udon, yasai itame and tonkatsu. The yaki udon tasted better than the ones from Sakae. It is fried with eggs, onions, chicken pcs and topped with bonito flakes. Springy udon with the right texture and taste.
Paulin's Muchies - Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma Atria - Yaki Udon

Paulin's Muchies - Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma Atria - Tonkatsu

The yasai itame is actually a mixed vegetable dish. Though the ingredients look simple but definitely not easy to fry to this delicious standard. Lastly, the tonkatsu was deep fried pork cutlet with tonkatsu sauce.
Paulin's Muchies - Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma Atria - Yasai itame

Though the meat wasn't thick, but still very juicy and tender. Looking at the empty plates after the meal, one could tell how much we enjoyed.

The dishes are served very quickly despite the crowd and the dishes come together so that no customer has to wait.

This Japanese restaurant is strongly recommended for sushi lovers but do come early to avoid the crowd.

We brought mummy for dinner before heading to church together for miracle service at Admiralty Lighthouse Evangelism.

Senjyu at Northpoint was our dinner venue since Yishun was just 2 stops away.

We had a very early dinner today at 515pm but we were surprised that there were quite a no of people having their dinner.

It seems that Senjyu is now part of Sakae group. You can use Sakae membership card at the restaurant. We ordered the following dishes:

1. Gyu Katsu Don - breaded beef fillet with eggs and onions topped on rice. Beef fillet was tender but rice a little too soggy as there was too much gravy.

2. Tori Mentaiko - fried chicken fillet wrapped with fish roe. Looks appetizing but doesn't taste as good.

3. Niniku Miso soup - Hot bowl of miso chicken soup with pork shabu slices and lots of vegetables. Very tasty indeed.

4. Golden maki - maki roll topped with mango slices and caviar. The roll is wrapped with fried ebi. Small maki roll and overall still acceptable.
Paulin's Munchies - Senjyu at Northpoint Shopping Centre - Golden maki

5. 2 sushi plates - unagi cheese sushi and salmon mentai. The salmon mentai is very delicious as usual. Flamed salmon mayo stuffed in beancurd skin. One of my favourite always.

Aburi Sushi Heishirou is a newly opened Japanese restaurant located on the 3rd floor of Westgate shopping mall beside 美人锅. Since we are always so in loved with sushi, it was a good opportunity to try this new restaurant which is supposedly to be popular for their aburi sushi as the restaurant is named.

We were welcomed by friendly staff and showed to our seats. We chose the outdoor seats as there was free singing performance by 2 very talented young Chinese singers. Nothing beats enjoying food with good music.

Here's our dinner menu for today:

1. Green salad - we were thinking the portion should be rather small for the price we pay at $7 but were so shocked at their generosity when it came. Fresh vegetables with yummy sesame sauce. Awesome!

2. Aburi tamago sushi - it's egg rolls on rice. The sushi size was huge! I couldn't stuff one pc in my mouth. Haha. The special thing was that the sushi was drizzled with nacho cheese sauce.

3. Dragon roll - special roll with unagi, avocado and king prawn. Roll size was simply huge! Rice was a little soggy but overall tasted good.

4. Saba upon - fried Saba fish in udon soup. Soup base was very good but udon a little floury in taste. Saba fish was juicy and delicious.

5. Chicken nanban - Fried chicken coated with eggs and deep fried. It was drizzled with some Japanese soy sauce. Yummy.

Today's really a wonderful foodie day. We had delicious birthday celebration at London Fat Duck during lunch and now we are at Standing Sushi Bar enjoying their every Wed 50% discount off their speciality rolls.

Standing Sushi Bar is situated at level 2 of Hitachi Towers. It is not a very huge restaurant and the seats are quite tightly spaced.

We ordered 2 of their speciality rolls, Under the sea and All salmon all the time.

Under the sea has fresh scallop on the top and coated with fish roe. All salmon all the time as what the name suggests is all abt salmon. Both rolls are simply awesome and no complaints about them.

For quick bites, they offer happy hr bites at $5 each from 5pm to 845pm. We orderes tori karaage, edamame, yakitori and sesame salad. One word to describe them: SEDAP!
