My 2nd official food review outside after Circuit Breaker (CB). Finally gotten the chance to meet my group of lovely foodies to enjoy this very sumptuous fishhead steamboat at Toa Payoh Lorong 1. Lai Bao fishhead steamboat and it is a subsidiary branch under the Melben Seafood organisation. Lai Bao is located in a coffee shop at Toa Payoh Lorong 1, about 10mins walk from the bus interchange.

Ordering is done self service at the counter. All prices are inclusive of GST already. Via Chope, users can get a 10% discount for voucher purchase. We bought $90 voucher for $100 worth. Here's what we have:

1. Red Grouper steamboat ($35) - we opted for the medium size since there were 4 of us. The steamboat was filled to the brim and used charcoal to keep the soup warm. Soup is refillable and we really enjoyed this dish with its generous filling. So good and delicious. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Teochew fried duck fritters ($10) - instead of the usual ngoh hiang, this fried fritter is made of real duck meat. Tasted good with mayo or sweet sauce. Rating: 4/5

3. Yam ring with Thai pomelo ($20) - unlike the usual yam ring with chicken, mushrooms etc, this dish at Lai Bao surprise us with a tangy yam filling and it's like a cold dish. The tanginess of the filling made it more appetizing and could go for more than the usual serving. Rating: 4/5

4. Braised eggplant ($8) - plump juicy eggplants topped with black bean sauce. Very tasty dish. Simple yet done well. Rating: 4.1/5

5. Fried beansprout ($12) - silver bean sprouts with salted fish. Being a sprout lover, this dish was definitely well done. The sprouts are fat and juicy. Rating: 4/5

6. Charcoal sweet and sour pork ($10) - juicy pork pcs tossed in sweet and sour sauce. The pork bits are coated thinly with batter and deep fried. Juicy! Rating: 4/5

7. Charcoal silky tofu ($8) - smooth silken tofu deep fried with charcoal coating. Tasted very good and enjoy them so much with mayo. Rating: 4/5

We were rather pleased with the food and so happy to be able to enjoy hot piping food once again. Though the soup is sweet but we do not feel thirsty. Guess it's real sweetness from the ingredients. Lai Bao is definitely a worth place to try.

Clay pot chicken steamboat on a cold weather? Do try the special Qi Xiang chicken pot at Upper Serangoon Road. Its special dark broth was awesome to have ingredients like black fungus, bean curd skins, mushrooms etc to be soaked in. The broth can be further topped up if not enough.

Each steamboat is chargeable at $37.90 for a whole chicken and $26.90 for half.

There are different level of spiciness to choose from and we opted for the mild one. It was still spicy despite the being the mildness level. For those who can take spiciness, one can dip in their specially made chili sauce as well.

The coffee shop is really crowded especially on weekends and we gotta wait for more than half an hour for the pots to arrive. The side dishes are chargeable at $3.80 per plate.

The steamboat which is full of chicken and simmered onions and bell peppers are worth the try. It’s definitely great for sharing so do patronized it with a group of friends who enjoy chicken.

Pot Addition is an international steamboat and BBQ restaurant serving both Korean meat BBQ and steamboat at very affordable prices. Dinner is priced at $24.90++ and lunch at $22.90++ for adults. Additional yuan yang  steamboat can be added at $12++ per pot.

Meat lovers will love this restaurant as there are about 10 varieties of marinated meat to choose from: juicy beef steak and collar to tender chicken, all done in different style. We so love their taste and tenderness of the meat.

For steamboat, there is also a wide range of ingredients and vegetables to choose from and the 8 choices of different soup bases. We opted for their Tom yum and herbal chicken soup which tasted so delicious and sweet.

For sauces, there are 26 different kinds of flavours to choose from and we highly recommend their satay and homemade chilli sauce. Besides the ingredients for BBQ and steamboat, there are other cooked side dishes like mandu, japchae, Korean fried chicken etc.

For cheese lovers, one can opt for their cheese dips with bbq meat. For its price, it's definitely value for money with the quantity and quality of food. The only limitation is that every table is limited to 90mins of eating time. For Korean bbq meat lovers, come and try this recommended restaurant.

Happy birthday Sis!! For her birthday celebration, we went to queue for the ever popular steamboat restaurant Hai Di Lao at Somerset 313. Being known for its long queuing time, we started queuing at 430pm.

We were served snacks and drinks. The snacks include popcorn, prawn crackers, fruits, ice cream etc. There are manicure service while waiting as well.

Fortunately we did not have to wait too long.. We were shown to our seats at 615pm.

My sis did all the ordering today. We ordered meat like beef, pork and chicken and lots of fish meat, mushrooms and tofu and vegetables. The ingredients were fresh and delicious.

The fun part was we are allowed to do the mix and match of the various seasonings. Lovely dips! There were other side food like cold black fungus, beansprouts, peanuts, pumpkin porridge and fruits. All so lovely and added spice to the dish.
Paulin's Muchies - Hai Di Lao (海底捞) at Somerset 313

With noodles ordered, there was a special la mian performance by the crew. Looks like some kongfu performance according to my nephew. Hahaz... Hai Di Lao's service is definitely very commendable.

Always there to ensure that there is enough soup topup and towels to be changed. Thumbs up. With good quality food and service comes a higher price.

Hai Di Lao can definitely be a place to be considered for reunion steamboat dinner. But do come early to avoid queuing too long.
