A simple and sumptuous dinner to end a hectic long work day today. Golden Rooster Stall at Clementi central has been there for years and we have been buying from them since our uni years 11 yrs ago.

The stall is situated in a coffee shop near Clementi MRT new exit, beside the old NTUC. It serves mainly western food and is good for their bbq chicken. Both of us ordered their half bbq chicken with rice topped with extra coleslaw.
Paulin's Munchies - Golden Rooster Stall at Clementi - Half BBQ Chicken with rice

Portion is generous and the chicken goes really well with their chilli sauce. Chicken is tender and tasty with their special homemade sauce. We would prefer their coleslaw to KFC ones as they are thicker and crunchier.

For a simple chicken rice alternative, Golden Rooster is definitely a choice to consider, looking at the queue it draws during dinner time.

It has been some time since we last visited Itacho Sushi. We kinda of miss their wide range of sushi they offer that could allow one to order by per pc.

Here's our dinner menu:

1. Spicy salmon with crabstick and egg roll
2. Salmon skin with butter sushi
3. Fried tofu with spicy minced meat
4. Roasted salmon with cheese sushi
5. Grilled pork sushi
6. Roasted egg with curry lobster
7. Top salmon belly with black pepper sauce
8. Scallop vege with homemade soba
9. Caramelized sweet potato

With these 9 dishes, it costs us $39.80 in total inclusive of gst and service charge. All the sushi dishes are fresh and delicious. No fishy taste or reduce in portion despite their price offer.

This is for my nephew's birthday celebration. All of us were invited to Melt cafe at Mandarin Oriental for buffet dinner. Melt cafe offers international buffet with bbq grill on Thurs, Fri and Sat.

At $88 per person, they offer seafood like lobsters, oysters, prawns and many more. Melt cafe is good for their Indian spread and bbq.

Surprisely there were many customers on a weekend. At 6.15 pm, many customers were already queuing up for dinner. Full house reservation on a Sat. For starters, we tried their lobster and sashimi.

Sashimi was fresh and sweet, excellent with wasabi. Lobster on the other hand was a tad too salty and tough. The ones from Amara hotel were better.
Paulin's Munchies - Melt Cafe at Mandarin Oriental - International Buffet

The Indian spread was still as good, especially their chickpeas and naan. The rest of the spread was ok but nothing too fantastic to comment about. Some must try dishes from the buffet are naan, chickpeas, satays from bbq grill, steam fish.

The dessert section is quite good, with wide range of juices, fruits, cakes and ice cream. The waffle with ice cream is a must try with their home made marshmallow.

Overall, Melt Cafe is a good cafe that serves a wide range international buffet food. However, Shangri-la still serves better choices and quality. HsBC is currently having promotion of 4 for the price of 3.

Tsujiki Men Don Tei is a small japanese restaurant situated at the basement of Westgate beside Isetan supermarket. There are only a few seatings and space is rather cramp so it is not recommended for family with young children. Food is to be ordered from the counter and they will call for ur nos. when ready.

Today's menu is:
1. Assorted inari sushi
2. Curry chicken udon
3. Gyu don
4. Gyoza

The sushi is packed from Edo sushi. Not too bad tasting for its price but the inari from ichiban boshi is still better.

Paulin's Munchies - Tsujiki Men Don Tei at Westgate - Assorted inari sushi

The gyoza is a little too soggy and don't have the crispy crunch like some other japanese restaurants.
Paulin's Munchies - Tsujiki Men Don Tei at Westgate - Gyu don

The curry chicken udon looks watery at first glance but surprisingly the taste of the curry is still quite strong.
Paulin's Munchies - Tsujiki Men Don Tei at Westgate - Curry chicken udon

Lastly, the gyo don tasted slightly better than Yoshinoya. Less fatty and better braised.

Overall, for a quick fast meal, Tsujiki Men Ten Don can be considered but don't expect too much out of it.

Another Groupon voucher worth trying for those who enjoys Chinese food in fine dining style. We bought the voucher for $24 with $40 value applicable for all food on the ala carte menu.

The place is posh and waitresses are wearing high slit cheongsums. They were friendly and recommended some of their signature dishes. Today's dinner dishes selected are:

1. Fu Ru fried vegetables
2. Caipu omelette
3. Roasted half chicken
4. Crispy brinjal with chicken floss and curry leaves.

We were expecting the vegetables to be a little salty but to our surprise, saltiness was well controlled.

Paulin's Munchies - Grand Mandarina at New Bridge Road - Fu Ru fried vegetables

Similarly to the caipu omelette, it was crispily fried with the right taste control.
Paulin's Munchies - Grand Mandarina at New Bridge Road - Caipu omelette

The roasted chicken beats Crystal Jade Kitchen as it is much more tender and skin crispy. Goes especially well with their chilli.
Paulin's Munchies - Grand Mandarina at New Bridge Road - Roasted half chicken

The preserved tomatoes on the side is a must try as it tasted so good. Sweet and sour and it removes the greasiness of the chicken.

Lastly, the crispy brinjal is nicely fried and coated with chicken floss. Great appetizer snack to try as it tasted like tempura crackers. Awesome! Food portion is generous as well.

Overall, food is good with excellent service and you may expect to see local stars like Li Nanxing as he is a frequent customer there. Hee... We saw him there today!

My first post on teochew porridge. The weather has, been so hot these few days so we decided to take something light yet savory for dinner. One recommended teochew porridge stall is Lim Joo Hin Eating House at Havelock Road. Since it's just abt 10 mins walk from Tiong Bahru MRT, we decided to give it a try for dinner.

We gotta choose our food first before choosing our seats. We ordered 6 dishes in all. Braised tau pok, caipu omelette, stew cabbage, sweet and sour pork, ikan billis peanut and fried bean sprouts
Paulin's Munchies - Lim Joo Hin Eating House - Teochew Porridge at Havelock Road

All the dishes tasted so good especially with a bowl of watery porridge. The must order dish is their ikan billis peanut. Well fried with a little chilli and honey. Yummy! These 6 dishes with 2 bowls of porridge cost us 15.20 which we thought was still ok.

However, hubby wasn't full so we went to Tiong Bahru Plaza for dessert. Yoo Tiao ice cream. Basically it is fried you tiao with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream. The combination is quite good. The you tiao itself is well fried and crispy.

A little pricey though given it's size and ingredients. Nevertheless it was a good dessert to try.

Finally! After several attempts to reserve seats via Chope, we managed to get a table at Redpan. Situated on the 2nd floor of the new wing of Marina Square, Redpan is a western fusion restaurant that serves western food with asian taste.

Our appetizer was char siew chilli fries. Fries crispily fried and topped with minced char siew. It tasted like nachos. Thumbs up. For mains, we shared their recommended lup cheong with macaroni and cheese.

The lup cheong, which is chinese sausage commonly found in claypot rice, enhances the taste of the cheese. Yummy!

Finally for dessert, their highly recommended banana donuts milo dinosaurs did not disappoint us. The banana donuts were soft and went very well with the milo powder. Not too sweet. A must try dessert.

The pu'er glutinous rice tea was excellent as well and it was good to wash off the greasiness of food.

Just 5 mins walk from Commonwealth MRT station, there is a coffee shop situated among the flatted factories. Among the stalls, Hansa Thai is one of them. Hansa Thai has another branch stall in Aperia Mall foodcourt.

For today, we went for their pineapple rice, lemon chicken, fried mixed vegetables and tom yum soup. In total, we paid $24.50 for 4 dishes. Portion was generous and food tasty. Pineapple rice was flavourful enough with lots of pineapple bits and floss.

Something special about the lemon chicken was the sauce. It is actually mixed with salted egg which made it less sour as compared to others. Mixed vegetables was homely and tom yum soup appetizing.

This was an unexpected turn of events. We actually intended to go JEM to try the curry fish head at nasi padang stall. However, as we ended work late, we missed the company's bus and took 963E, thinking we should go Clementi for tze char instead.

We are not aware that 963E do not stop at the west coast recreation bus stop. We pressed the bell but the bus did not stop. We ended up at bt batok east instead.

Hee.. Since we were already there, we decided to explore the small neighborhood for dinner. We stumbled upon this coffee shop and decided to go for tze char, Fu Zhen Seafood Garden.

We tried their basic dishes like hotplate tofu, fried xiao bai cai and thai style chicken. Surprisingly the food turned up quite good, especially for the hotplate tofu. Generous in ingredients and tasty. The fried vegetable dish has a homely taste. The thai style chicken wasn't fantastic but definitely acceptable.

Recommended by some of our frenz, we went to try Food Lovers Only at IMM with rather high expectations. Looking at the menu, the variety isn't too many but still decent enough. And something to note, there is no gst and service charge.

The aunty serving us was friendly. We were told to order and pay for the food first at the cashier. I ordered chicken auora pasta while hubby ordered beef bulogi sandwich. We waited patiently for our food. The food was not served until 30 mins later and we were getting a little impatient.

Paulin's Munchies - Food Lovers Only by Manuka Group at IMM - Beef Bulogi Sandwich

Luckily we were still not too hungry. Sensing our annoyance, the aunty served us some chips for snack. Finally the food came after 35 mins later. My pasta came first. Its supposedly to be chicken cooked in tomato cream sauce with pasta. It was so disappointing as it tasted plain and i had to sprinkle in my salt and pepper.

Hubby's sandwich came next and we thought it looks delicious. First bite into it caused me to twitch. Omg! The onion stinks! Guess it was marinated with some sauce that stinks. The best part of the dish was actually the chips. Sounded sad huh?

Food Lovers Only is a disappointing place to visit. Guess they will need to change their food and management to attract more customers.

Another good deal from Eatigo. 50% off on all ala carte food menu at Gum Gang Won Korean fusion restaurant situated at Temple Street of Chinatown.

We were served by friendly Chinese staff who speaks rather good Korean as she was communicating to a group of Korean students with teachers. We decided to go for our favourite dishes like Japchae and tteokboki. We were then recommended to try their spicy chicken and fried string beans with pork
Paulin's Munchies - Gum Gang Won Korean Fusion Restaurant at Chinatown - Tteokboki

Being a typical Korean restaurant, they served us 6 small sides. Kimchi was a little sour but guess it will make good kimchi soup.

The shredded potato strips were nice. First came kevin's favourite japchae.
Paulin's Munchies - Gum Gang Won Korean Fusion Restaurant at Chinatown - Japchae

It was well fried with beef strips and vegetables. Tasty! Eating the tteokboki gave me a feeling that we were back in Korea trying out the street food. The spicy chicken was fried and drizzled with sweet and spicy sauce.Chicken was tender but felt that the sauce could do better.

Lastly, the fried string beans with pork was a worth trying dish as the beans are juicy despite being fried and goes really well with the small fried pork bits. 2 thumbs up for this dish!

Overall, would say that Gum Gang Won is quite a good Korean Chinese restaurant to visit with the 50% discount. Else it would be considered on the pricey side.
