Kraftwich by Swiss Bake serves handcrafted sandwiches with their freshest and nutritious ingredients. There are a wide range of different sandwiches to choose from, tuna to smoked salmon sandwiches.

We ordered their smoked duck sandwich set to share for lunch today. Each set comes with mushroom/beef stragnoff soup, coffee/tea and muffin.
Paulin's Munchies - Kraftwich at Hillion Mall - Smoked Duck Sandwich

The mushroom soup was thick with freshly sliced mushrooms. Tasted healthy but consistency was tad too starchy. The biscotti accompanying the soup was great.
Paulin's Munchies - Kraftwich at Hillion Mall - Mushroom Soup Biscotti

Now on the crafted sandwich. The ingredients were generous and smoked duck tasted so good as well. The mustard sauce together with the duck was a heavenly combination. So tasty yet not sinful. The calories are written on every sandwich item on the menu.

The muffin serves a great dessert after meal. Light, buttery and soft, it was good! The earl grey tea was from Twinnings.

For a healthy sandwich meal, other than Subway, Kraftwich can definitely be considered.

Xin Wang's cafe concept: combining the street's favourite of HK, Macau, Shanghai and Singapore. They have recently launched a new menu, which added more dim sum, local tze char dishes and many others.

We decided to try some of their new menu dishes at JEM. Here's what we have ordered:

1. Baked char siew bo lo bun - this dim sum dish comes in 2pcs. Looks small and cute but was a little disappointed in taste. Expected to be more buttery but the crust was plain. The filling was good on the other hand. Rating: 3.5/5
Paulin's Munchies - Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe at JEM - Baked char siew bo lo bun

2. Lychee sweet and sour pork - thumbs up for this dish. Tasted better than some other tze char stalls. The portion was generous and the pork cubes were succulent. The lychee added extra tanginess to the dish. Rating: 4/5

3. Minced kailan with silver fish - another good dish to share. The vegetables are fragrantly fried and topped with fresh crispy silver fish. Rating: 3.8/5

4. XW special stir fried beehoon - ordinary tasting beehoon stirfried with some onions, eggs, char siew bits and vegetables. The beehoon taste was quite strong. Rating: 3/5

5. Mini spring rolls - crispily fried 8 mini spring rolls with thai chilli sauce. A good simple appetizer. Rating: 3.8/5

Nothing beats a bowl of piping hot soup on a cold rainy evening. We were on bus no 166 on the way home but detoured to have our dinner at the all famous Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon at Dover before going home. They used to be at the old Holland Village market but seemed to have moved.

Being a tze char stall, we were surprised that there was no menu at all. All on the boards are the items offerable. There were about 10 items in all, being the most and commonly ordered XO fish head beehoon and san lao horfun. Here's what we had:

1. XO fish meat beehoon - the soup stilk tasted as good. It was not very rich but flavourful enough for us to fall in love with it. You can taste the XO and fish meat were fresh. Rating: 4.2/5
Paulin's Munchies - Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon at Dover - XO fish meat beehoon

2. San lao horfun - portion was small for $6. But it was full of beansprouts and cooked much drier. Not as wet as some other tze char stalls will offer. Rating: 3.8/5
Paulin's Munchies - Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon at Dover - San lao horfun

3. Prawn roll - what a homecook dish. The roll was soft and not as meaty as some other places. We love the homecook taste and feels so much like my grandma dish. Rating: 4.2/5

4. Fried nai bai - another homecook dish taste that is worth to order. Fried fragrantly with garlic but not overly tasty and rich. Rating: 4/5

The service was prompt and food were served within 10 mins upon ordering. A recommended tze char stall for family.

Mellower Coffee, a popular and leading coffee chain from Shanghai, has opened their 2nd flagship shop in Bugis. Just located beside Bugis +, the coffee cafe owns a 2 storey place. The cafe looks big and cosy.

There aren't many seats, so with customers chit chatting, studying there, one could find it difficult to find a seat. People are really making themselves really comfortable there with the cosy and right temperature ambience.

We tried 2 of their signature coffees, ondeh x latte and sweet little rain.
Paulin's Munchies - Mellower Coffee at Middle Road (Bugis) - Ondeh x latte

Imagine gula melaka coconut milk with freshly brewed coffee... This combination simply won us over. It wasn't too sweet and the coconut flavor ended with the bitter coffee taste. 4 thumbs up! Sweet little rain is a very interesting concept coffee.
Paulin's Munchies - Mellower Coffee at Middle Road (Bugis) - Sweet little rain

They use cotton candy floss as the sugar to the coffee. Once placed over the hot coffee, the floss would melt like little rain. So creative and one could control the amt of sweetness. One thing was the tray was quite messy with the "rain" all over. Hahaz...

The rainbow cake was very delicious. Spongy soft cake layered with cream. Not too sweet and goes extremely well with a cup of nicely brewed coffee.

Mellower coffee definitely offers a great frenz gathering spot for coffee lovers and we will definitely be back again.

Chicken Up's unique flavour is each chicken part is treated to a 12 hours marinating process using the original Chicken Up recipe and then deep-fried to seal in the flavour. This process ensures that every piece is bursting with succulent juices and tenderness to create a great satisfying taste.

How true is this, we are currently at their Jurong East outlet to try. We ordered their 3 dishes in total, with 2 of which being their highly recommended dishes.

1. Yangnyum half chicken - 1/2 tender deep fried and down with their sweet sensational sauce. The chicken was tender but not as succulent as we expected it would be. I love the korean sweet sauce as it provides a sweet sensational after taste. Rating: 3.8/5
Paulin's Munchies - Chicken Up at Jurong East - Yangnyum half chicken

2. Kimchi fries - generous portion of fries mixed with kimchi, shredded chicken, nacho cheese, pickles and mayonnaise. One must like kimchi to like this dish. We love kimchi so we gave it 2 thumbs up. Would even be better if the fries are crispier. Rating: 4/5

3. Corn salad - generous salad with fresh vegetables, kidney beans, chick peas, corns, tomatoes with special korean salad dressing. A very good dish to cleanse the oiliness. Rating: 3.8/5

There are other dishes being offered like army stew, rice sets etc. Personally would still prefer Chir Chir Factory chicken over this in terms of its fried chicken but for other dishes Chicken Up could be considered.

Sheng Kee Desserts offers a tempting range of authentic Hong Kong style desserts, snacks as well as fulfilling noodles and rice that are prepared with quality ingredients. They have several branches in Singapore with the latest outlet opened at Hillion Mall.

We tried their following dishes and were rather pleased with the taste:

1. SK signature combination noodle dry - this noodle has wanton, dumpling and char siew slices. The dumplings were plump and juicy and wanton so crunchy too. We love the noodle texture as they were thin and springy with not much ghee taste. The char siew slices were fresh as well. Rating: 4/5

2. Steamed chicken with honshimeiji mushroom and shredded ginger rice - a very healthy steam rice with chicken chunks, mushrooms and ginger. The gravy was light and tasty and was a great one dish meal. Rating: 3.8/5
Paulin's Munchies - Hong Kong Sheng Kee Desserts at Hillion Mall Bt Panjang - Steamed chicken with honshimeiji mushroom and shredded ginger rice

3. Mango sago pamelo dessert - nothing to shout abt as the dessert was diluted. The mango should have been stronger and thicker. Rating: 3/5

4. Black sesame paste - thick and rich paste excellent for hair. May not be the best but could satisfy our black sesame craving. Rating: 3.5/5

For a nice comfort meal, Sheng Kee Dessert can definitely be considered but I guess it also depends on the outlet. The one at Hillion mall has better reviews as compared to others.

We found it so strange... Chinese noodles together with Thai food. This is a new concept by Love Mee 爱面子 and Tuk Tuk Cha at Suntec City Fountain of Wealth eating area. Ordering is done at Tuk Tuk Cha counter but the dishes, be it Thai or Chinese, are done by Love Mee chefs. Ordering of food and collection is self service. There are not many seats, abt 20 seaters.

We had the following dishes:

1. Value set meal - the set meal comes with one la mian, side dish and drink. We ordered the signature beef la mian, beancurd strips and thai milk tea. The beef la mian was cooked in rich beef broth. Not too thick but very tasty. We love the la mian texture. It was springy and does not turn soggy in soup. The beef slices are thinly sliced with white crunchy radishes. The side beancurd strips dish was delicious as well. We love the thai milk tea. We choose 50% sugar level and it was just right. Very value for money set meal. Rating: 4/5

2. Yen tau foo tom yum dry - this is the very own thai version. The ingredients are similar to chinese yong tau fu, with fish cake, fishball, wanton etc. However, the unique ones are like cuttlefish and white fungus. The tanginess of the tom yum added great flavor and opens one appetite. Delicious! Rating: 4.2/5

Another must eat food in Osaka is conveyor sushi. We went to one popular conveyor sushi restaurant called Isono Ryotaro near our accommodation for dinner. Isono Ryotaro is a 130 seater conveyor sushi restaurant located at Namba. Why is this restaurant so popular? The reason is all sushi is priced at 100yen each plate. That is abt $1.30 sgd per plate. Don't think we could get so cheap per plate in SG.

We waited for about 20mins before we got shown to our seats. There was a wide range of sushi to choose from. Priced at 100yen per plate, we could not ask for more. The conveyor sushi at Kyoto that we eaten a few days ago was definitely much nicer.

Paulin's Munchies - Isono Ryotaro at Namba Osaka - Sushi

But considering at this price, the quality could consider to be good. There are other sides like udon and fried chicken which are less than 280yen per plate. We ate 10 plates of sushi, 2 plates of chicken and 1 udon for 1700yen in all. That is less than $24 sgd. Definitely a delicious and affordable meal.

Given another chance, we will still personally prefer to visit some other conveyor belt sushi restaurants for better quality sushi.

Sandwich Man is a local Japanese sandwich cafe located near the housing district of Namba. The cafe opens at 830am daily and offers a wide variety of sandwich choices. There are 2 levels with 6 counter seats on the first floor and 26 seats on the 2nd level.

Each sandwich comes in medium or large size. We ordered their large double cheese ham egg salad sandwich and a cup of large americano coffee to share. At an affordable 600yen for the sandwich, it is definitely worth every cent.

This sandwich could be shared by 2 pple. There was wasabi in the egg salad, which gives a 'kick' in the sandwich taste. The ham, cheese and egg salad combination was heavenly with the crispily buttered toast. AWESOME!

For a nice delicious breakfast, would definitely recommend this sandwich restaurant.

Located on the 12th floor of Hyunku Departmental as well, Izumi Curry serves a wide variety of curry dishes. It was a small cosy restaurant with wooden settings. A much price friendly restaurant as compared to the rest of the restaurants located on the same floor.

After a long wet day at Universal Studio Japan, we longed for a hot piping meal. We had the following:

1. Vegetable curry + cheese + stew beef - a very delicious dish indeed. The vegetables are fried and very generous in serving. The curry base is different from those serve in SG. It has a slight tangy and sourish taste which made the curry more appetizing. The cheese topping was rich and delicious and with the tenderness of the beef stew, a very good dish. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Chicken cutlet tartare curry - the curry dish consists of crispily breaded and tender chicken cutlet topped with tartare sauce and a generous portion of leek. Awesome! The curry was slightly sweeter and spicy as compared to the above. Rating: 4/5

After an afternoon shopping at Kobe premium outlets, we took a 45mins bus ride to Kobe town for their Kobe beef. We went to Steak Land located near Sannomiya train station. It is about 10mins walk from the station.

Steak Land is divided into two levels: the ground level, where you're seated in front of the chef, and the upper level, which boasts private tables in a more intimate setting. We shared the table with 2 other couples touring Kobe.
Paulin's Munchies - Steak Land at Kobe Japan - Kobe beef set

We ordered 2 affordable Kobe beef set, one special at 6500yen and the other ordinary at 5900yen. Each set comes with salad, soup, pickles, smoked salmon salad, seafood appetizer, vegetables and of course, the 200g kobe beef. The set ends with a scoop of yuzu sorbet and cup of coffee.
Paulin's Munchies - Steak Land at Kobe Japan - Kobe beef set

Would say the kobe beef was definitely one of the best beef that we had taken. It was so juicy and tender and simply melts in your mouth. Awesome grilling skills by the chef! The seafood appetizer was very fresh as well.

It comes with octopus, prawn and scallop fragrantly fried in front of you with butter. The fried beansprouts and cabbage were our main vegetable source for the meal. The fried garlic accompanied with the beef was simply a heavenly combination.

Guess after this meal, no other beef tasted so nice in SG. The yuzu sorbet cleansed off the oiliness. For affordable and good kobe beef, do give Steak Land a try.

Hon Katsuki is located on the 12th floor of Hankyu Departmental at Umeda station. It sells tonkatsu and each set comes with free flow of soup, rice and shredded cabbage. We ordered one item to share as the platter looks quite big.

Hon Katsuki speciality platter was what we had. It consists of 80g pork loin, king wild prawn, cream shrimp croquette, potato salad and shredded cabbage. Every item was awesome! Crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside.

Both of us really enjoyed the tonkatsu set. For abt $24, this is considered a very worthwhile set to order.

After visiting the popular ramen musuem, nothing beats to eat a bowl of authentic Japanese ramen on such a cooling day.

Ippudo ramen is situated just a stone's throw away from the ramen musuem. Their motto: Your happiness of eating this ramen makes us happy.

Besides ramen, Ippudo also serves side dishes like gyoza and rice. We were shown to the counter seat and ordered the following item:

Day 4 of our trip today. Today we are bound for Osaka via the JR line. We woke up a little later and went for brunch instead. Fortunately at Kyoto station, there are lots of luggage lockers for travellers to park their luggage in while doing shopping. We did the same and off we go to explore for our brunch.

We went to their popular and affordable conveyor sushi belt restaurant called Musashi for brunch. They open at 10am and we were surprise that they are actually a queue already. We waited for 5 mins and was our turn.

There are about 5 chefs at the counter busy preparing all the sushi. The sushi are all priced at 146yen with only a few premier plates at 346yen.

We took 15 plates in all and must admit that their sushi quality is excellent for their price. The rice isn't a lot and the rice tasted sweet and fragrant. Some sushi that must take are prawn tempura sushi, smoked duck sushi, tamago sushi, unagi sushi and fish roe sushi. The ingredients are so fresh especially for the sea urchin sushi.
