NOOSH Noodle Bar and Grill, a Halal restaurant opened since 2016 and is located at The Esplanade. The restaurant brings together both Asian and Western cuisine in a CONTEMPORARY ambience, perfect for families and special occasions.

RESERVATIONS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, GIVEN THE LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE. DINERS ARE ONLY ALLOWED 1.5HRS OF DINE-IN TIME. THE RESTAURANT WAS BUSTLING WITH DINERS DURING DINNER TIME WHEN WE WERE THERE. WE DECIDED TO TRY ALL OF THEIR CHEF RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. SIRACHA CHICKEN ($14.90) - boneless chicken pcs topped with fiery siracha sauce and mayo. The hotplate side dish was then flamed with melty mozzarella cheese. Delicious side to try. Rating: 4/5

 2. SATAY BEBEK PONTIANAK ( $12.90) - 6 sticks of duck satay grilled to perfect tenderness with homemade peanut sauce. A must try side. Rating: 4.2/5

3. Chicken rojak salad ($12.90) - tender grilled chicken thigh with fresh salad vegetables in rojak sauce. An interesting fusion dish. Rating: 3.9/5

4. Kung Pao fish and chips ($22.90) - 2 pcs of battered fish topped with kung pao sauce. Doesn't taste anything close to the Chinese kung pao. The fries were also lacking its crispness. Rating: 3.2/5

Kung Pao Fish and Chips - Noosh Noodle Bar & Grill

5. Bali chicken cutlet ($24.90) - tenderly grilled chicken thigh with sambal sauce and cheese. We loved the curly fries accompanying the main. Rating: 4/5

6. Smoked duck lemak ($18.90) - a fiery dish not for non-spicy eaters. Love the lemak sauce accompanying the pasta. A unique fusion tasting pasta worth the try. Rating: 4/5

Hawkerman is a Halal certified eatery, housing 3 popular hawker brands - Tenderfresh, Warong Kim's and Ah Boy popiah, under one roof. Hawkerman provides a twist to its heritage taste and bring up some surprise to the traditional food.

Ordering is self served at the counter and customers will be given a food buzzer for food collection. Prices are subjected to 7% gst and there is no service charge. There is a central counter to take cutlery and sharing plates plus sauces. We ordered 2 mains and 1 side for today's dinner.

1. Ah Boy's popiah with Chinese chicken sausage ($4.90) - deliciously rolled popiah with 7 ingredients aka known as rainbow ingredients topped with chicken lap cheong. The popiah is juicy and delicious and I will definitely be back to try the others like the maki floss popiah. Rating: 4/5

2. Chop chop hokkien mee ($9.90) - crisply fried chicken chop placed on topped on Warong Kim's fried hokkien mee. The sambal belacan chilli
accompanying the dish was awesome. The noodles are ok except lacking the fried pork lard taste. Noodle portion isn't a lot. Rating: 3.8/5

3. Tom Yum Boomerang lemak ($10.90) - generous portion of huge chicken thigh with tom yum marination. Love the tenderness of the chicken thigh which topped nasi lemak and some side condiments like ar char and ikan bilis peanut. Rating: 3.9/5

We really enjoyed the alfresco dining of this Fish & Co branch at Westgate. Besides the cooling and cosy environment, the staffs are really friendly and always putting on their smiles to answer any queries. Ordering was done via ipad with brief introduction given by the staff on their ongoing promotion.

We went for their 1 for 1 deal which will end by 4th Nov. There are 6 dishes to choose from. We tried 2 of their recommended dishes: white fish with peri prawns and citrus-crusted barramundi. Each dish is entitled to 2 sides and we had coleslaw with truffle fries and rice with fried kale. I would strongly recommend their rice and coleslaw.

White fish with peri prawns - Fish & Co at Westgate - Paulin's Munchies

Their rice is so fragrantly fried with butter, raisin and bits of seafood and peppercorns. Yummy! Coleslaw was good as well. The truffle fries are ordinary. Tasted like any other ordinary fries. The fried kale was something unique but the vegetable was very bitter especially the stem.

Moving onto the mains, we love the citrus-crusted barramundi. Barramundi is basically asian seabass.

Citrus-crusted barramundi - Fish & Co at Westgate - Paulin's Munchies

It was very fresh and soft and goes well with the sauce. The white fish and peri prawns were good too. For 1 for 1, its definitely very value for money. The dishes come with free drinks and we opted for ice tea.

Fish & Co has definitely maintained their standards all these years and hopefully this will stay with more creations to come. Food goes best with the wonderful free live band singing every Fri.

Located on level 4 of JCube, Isuramuya is another Halal certified restaurant popular among the Malays serving japanese food. The restaurant offers sashimi dishes, nigiris, dons, ramens, appetizers and desserts. Quite an extensive range for a small restaurant with about 25 - 30 seaters.

The servers in the restaurant werw rather young. Most of them looking like students. Ordering was done through the servers. We went for their safe dishes like don and appetizers. We ordered the following:

1. Yakiniku don ($9.80) - generous portion of thinly sliced beef fried with onions on top of rice. The don could have tasted slightly better with more sauce. Rating: 3.5/5

2. Chicken teriyaki soba salad ($10.80) - fresh salad vegetables accompanied with a bundle of soba and a small chicken fillet. The sesame sauce used was the ready made Kewpie sauce. A very safe dish. Rating: 3.5/5

3. Yuzu gyoza ($6) - yes.. Its yuzu. The korean popular fruit. The filling tasted real weird with yuzu. We had to ask for mayo to mask out the taste. Rating: 2.8/5

The Dim Sum Place is a Halal certified dim sum restaurant very popular among the Malays. Replacing the usual pork dim sum with chicken, the restaurant believes that the taste could still be retained.

Located at 791 North Bridge Road, the restaurant with its large orange shop name is facing the main road. Just across the small street is its sister stall called The Ramen Stall.

We managed to reach this affordable looking restaurant at 6:15pm before the Muslims break fast for the day. Ordering is done via a paper menu. Besides dim sum, it also serves a wide range of Chinese cooked dishes.

We ordered 8 items in total. They are:

1. Pan fried carrot cake ($2.90) - 3 square slices of soft carrot cakes topped with fried shallots. Tasty with dried shrimps and radish taste and goes well with the chilli sauce. Rating: 4/5

2. TDSP cheese tarts ($4.90) - was taken aback by its cheesy filling and buttery base. Tasted really good, especially when hot. Something to consider after Bake cheese tarts. Rating: 4.2/5

3. Stir fried broccoli with garlic ($7.90) - generously stir fried with lots of garlic, this is a very tasty vegetable dish to accompany with plain rice. However it might be too salty for some. Rating: 3.8/5

4. Molten salted egg custard bun ($4.90) - we didn't find this dish nice. The salted egg custard tasted a little weird. The viscosity was ok but not its taste. Rating: 3/5

5. Fried chicken siew mai ($3.90) - instead of the usual steam siew mai, they were deep fried and topped with fish roe and mayo. Tasted better than the steam version. Rating: 4/5

Lerk Thai Restaurant chain was developed and operated by Select Group Limited since 2004. Certified halal, the restaurant serves tasty and authentic Thai cuisine to everyone, with a fair range of non pork dishes.

We were at Causeway Point this late afternoon for house visiting and went over to the Woodlands Civic Center to satisfy our Thai dinner craving.

Ordering was self service at the counter. We had green curry chicken, crispy omelette with prawn and baby kailan with thai chilli. As sides, I went to their Thai snacks takeaway counter to do a mix and match. We had thai fish cakes, spring rolls and fish nuggets

All these were cut into pcs and spinkled with thai sweet and sour sauce. The fish cakes were nice but the nuggets were very fishy. Luckily they had the sauce to mask the taste.

We were pleased with their main dishes. The green curry was cooked to the right consistency and not too coconutty in taste. There were enough portion of chicken and thai brinjals. The crispy omelette with prawn was simply awesome!

Crunchy fresh prawns fried within crispy and fragrant omelette. So good a dish that could even be eaten on its own. The best thing was it was not too oily. The baby kailan with thai chilli was also very tastily fried with garlic and fermented bean paste.

All these dishes go real well with a plate of thai fragrant rice.

Food serving was prompt and ambience comfortable as the place wasn't too crowded. All dishes come together so that customers can enjoy them together.

Lerk Thai is a recommended Thai restaurant chain to try for family and frenz.

PappaRich is a Malaysian owned restaurant which started its first outlet in Malaysia in 2006. From then onwards, it has expanded to up to 77 outlets. In 2012, it opened its first outlet in SG and has altogether 6 outlets in SG.

We visited their outlet at Westgate today after work. We reached at 645pm and the restaurant was already packed with customers.

We had a table outdoor. Luckily there were a lot of ceiling fans which made it a little cooler. We ordered 2 mains and one vegetable dish.

First main was fried seafood horfun. Being a halal certified restaurant, they substituted the usual pork offered by tze char stall with chicken.
Paulin's Muchies - PappaRich at Westgate - Fried seafood horfun

The portion was generous and indeed tasty. But slight improvement needed on the gravy. There were left over starch pcs which looks very gooey. Kevin had fried rice with fried chicken leg. This dish was really good and value for money.
Paulin's Muchies - PappaRich at Westgate - Fried rice with fried chicken leg

The chicken thigh was nicely fried and meat so tender. It goes well with the sambal chilli accompanying it. The dish has a sunny side up egg, cucumber and crackers. Overall a good dish to try. The side vegetable dish was fried garlic kangkong
Paulin's Muchies - PappaRich at Westgate - Fried garlic kang kong

We did not have very expectation of this dish but surprisingly very well done. Very fragrantly fried with garlic and with no muddy kangkong taste. Not too oily as well.

Service was swift and overall ambience not too bad either. Thus why not coming to this place for a meal with family or frenz.

West Co'z is a halal family restaurant located in Yew Tee Point. They have another branch at West Coast Plaza. This family restaurant is popular for their curry fish head and other seafood dishes. It is crowded during lunch and dinner times.

We are here for dinner today and we opted for their staple dishes. As mains, we had Thai style fried rice and mee goreng.
Paulin's Muchies - West Co'z at Yew Tee Point - Thai style fried rice

The fried rice is accompanied with 3 pcs of fried chicken and a portion of fried ikan billies. The rice looks plain but surprisingly very tasty and fragrant especially with the fried ikan billies. The chicken is also very good. Crispy and tender.

The mee goreng was excellent. Fried with chilli padi as well, it's definitely not for those who cannot take spicy. The taste was awesome with the right noodle texture. A dish highly recommended.

For sides, we ordered hotplate tofu. This dish was a tad salty and we had to eat lots of rice with it.

Hanis is a halal version of Hans family restaurant. Being Malay friendly, you will not expect to find their signature dishes like hainanese pork chop etc. Other than the pork dishes, the rest remains more or less the same.

Here's what we ordered for dinner today:
1. Panfried dory fish set meal.
2. Beef horfun

The dory fish set meal comes with corn soup, garlic bread and a cup of drink of your choice. I chose hot lemon tea.
Paulin's Munchies - Hanis at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital - Pan Fried Dory Fish

The fish was fresh and well fried. However, there was not much taste to the fish. Guess there wasn't much seasoning done. Fries was a little soggy.

The soup tasted ok but garlic bread was hard.

Hubby's beef horfun was better. There were generous slices of beef and it tasted really homely.

Both of us definitely preferred the non halal version of this family restaurant. Probably at Hans, the food tasted better when cooked with lard.
