Newly renovated Tiong Bahru Plaza is now open. Though there are still some store renovation going on, most of them are up with the food street ready. The food street is on the 2nd level and it comprises of a few restaurants like Dolce Tokyo, A One Claypot etc.

Both of us decided to go for Peranakan Cuisine for a change today as Nonya restaurants are hard to come by. We were approached by friendly staff and made us feel at home. The recommended dishes were chin cha lok omelette, satay bohong (pork slices with peanut sauce) & nonya chap chye

We both enjoyed the omelette and chap chye as it gives us a very homecook taste.

I do not enjoy the bohong dish as it was a little too porky for my liking. One thing definitely to taste is the belacan dip. Spicy with excellent lemongrass taste.

There are many other dishes to try but I believe there are better nonya restaurants to choose from.

Since our last visit on Sat to Big Box, we discovered that there are many stalls to explore besides ZhiChar Delights. Thus we decided to go for a 2nd visit today and try the halal Thai food stall. We realised that there was a huge crowd last Sat and were surprised by the same no of crowd on a working Mon.

We ordered their popular Thai lemon honey fish fillet rice, Thai grilled chicken rice and baby kailan with salted fish. Each rice set comes with mango salad as a side dish and a bowl of Tom yum soup and dessert. The portion is generous and food is definitely tasty.

To make it healthier, the rice served is brown rice. Grilled chicken was tender. Tom yum soup was hot and spicy. The intended dessert served was sticky rice but it tasted like Chinese black glutinous rice dessert.

This a halal Thai restaurant worth recommending and we will be back to try the other dishes. Do keep a lookout for our next recommendation!

Continuing our food exploration after a week's break in Seoul, we stumbled upon a homely tze char stall at Big Box in Jurong East. We didn't expect ourselves to end up eating dinner here as our intention was actually to try Two Chef's Eating Place at Commonwealth.

ZhiChar Delights is located on the 3rd floor of Big Box. It is a stall in the food court and we were taken surprise by the delicious looking food the stalls were selling. There are thai stalls, ramen stalls, bah kut teh etc etc. Looks like we have lots to try from here.

We ordered 3 dishes, hotplate tofu, prawn roll and sweet & sour fish. Hotplate tofu and prawn roll are recommended by the friendly lady boss. Tofu and rolls are all homemade.

The dishes came quickly and they truly tasted good and worth it for its price. Best thing was the place is air conditioned and they are still charging at the average tze char pricing.

A place to recommend for the family dinner.

Beng Hiang took over Boon Lay Raja restaurant at Jurong East. Just situated beside Jcube, it is conveniently accessible by MRT.

We were there today to celebrate father-in-law's and niece's birthday. It was fortunate that we made reservation in advance as the restaurant was packed with pple. Most customers are old timers who have been patronizing the restaurant and many tables were celebrating their birthday as well.

We ordered a few of their recommended dishes. They include duck salad (appetizing with its tangy taste), Ngoh hiang & prawn roll (tasty with home made taste), fried Hokkien noodles (one must like the yellow noodle ghee taste), fried Thai kailan (so well done that can just have the dish with rice), fish maw soup (so rich, tasty and full of ingredients), crispy roast chicken (crispy yet tender), and lastly, complimentary red bean soup.

Though the dessert was complimentary, but it was still well done with the right amount of sweetness.

Beng Hiang is one traditional restaurant to go for Hokkien cuisine but we still preferred to go Beng Thin Hoon Kee at OCBC building.

The food there gives us a more homely feel and taste. Definitely slightly quieter too!

Back to Westgate for our food exploration and we finally tried Nara Thai for our monthly anniversary dinner. We have passed by the restaurant a few times but haven't gotten the chance to try it as the queue was long. This time we were early.

We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our seats by the window. Lovely ambiance. This restaurant was voted one of the best Thai restaurants for 2015. We ordered 4 dishes in total. Green curry chicken, mixed broccoli with mushroom, fried fish with spicy Thai dressing and fried garlic chicken

I would give 4 thumbs up for their food. Wonderfully done with the right taste and spiciness. The food went well with blue jasmine rice. This was a unique factor of the restaurant.

Lastly came the desserts. We ordered their coconut ice cream with assorted sweet condiments. You could do your own mixed and match. We added lots of red rubies and attap seeds. Yummy!

This is definitely a restaurant worth recommending and we will be back.

This is another of our Groupon exploration. We bought this voucher a month ago and finally gotten the chance to make use of it today. We had to call to reserve to secure the seats as this restaurant is packed with customers during dinner.

As what the restaurant name suggests, it is popular for its yakitori dishes. We ordered one dinner set which came with a yakitori don, eggs with mushroom pork slices, salad, and a bowl of miso soup. For sides, we ordered another plate of yakitori mix, their popular potato croquette and chicken meatballs.

For starters, they serve complimentary raw cabbages with sesame dressing. Apparently it is suppose to remove the greasiness from the dishes. Refreshing appetizer to start with. The dishes were served within 10 mins.

The yakitori sticks are so well done... The chicken and pork skewers were so tender and you have no trouble pulling the meat off the sticks. Another must order dish is their potato croquette.

The croquette is filled with mashed potatoes, eggs and mixed vegetables. Topped with their Japanese mayonnaise, it's a heavenly combination!

We will definitely be back to try the other dishes and this time will be their udon. Yummy!

A new interesting bao/mantou cafe has opened at Suntec City basement fountain area. The cafe sells a wide range of homemade baos and mantou with interesting flavours like cheesy chicken, peanut butter and pumpkin yam.

The baos are so beautifully made that they look like bread on the shelves. We bought their red bean, cheesy chicken and vegetable baos and were surprised at the baos softness and taste. All so well done with the right amount of filling. 2 thumbs up and one could just sit ard at the cafe drinking coffee and enjoy the baos.

We ended our family day in Suntec City with a nice yummy dinner at Bali Thai. Bali Thai is part of the food chain together with other restaurants like So Pho and HK Streats.

At first we did not expect too much from the food but they turned out better than our expectations. Bali Thai is not a pure Thai restaurant but with a mix of Indonesian cuisine as well.

We ordered tahu telor, tom yum goong, hotplate tofu for side dishes. And each of us ordered our own mains... mum had garlic pepper seafood glass noodles, sis had bbq chicken with rice, brother-in-law had olive rice with chicken fillet, hubby had grilled chicken glass noodles, nephew had Thai basil chicken rice and I had Thai honey chicken rice.

Tahu telor was nicely fried, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

The noodle main dishes are commendable as they are dishes that allow one to do their own mix and match. There are different types of mains, noodle staples and sauces to choose from. Overall a value for money dish to be ordered given its portion.

Bali Thai is a affordable family restaurant for everyone and it's worth a try.
