Kam Jia Zhuang Seafood at Ang Mo Kio - my tze char trail part 8

Continuing with our tze char exploration, Kam Jia Zhuang Seafood at AMK ave 3 blk 202 was our next stop. Blk 202 is just a 10 mins walk away from AMK hub, so rather convenient to access to.

We reached there at about 530pm and there were many tables that were reserved already. Since it was just 2 of us, it was easier to find seats. 

We ordered their popular homemade beancurd with golden mushroom. Surprisely, the skin of the tofu has a very special taste which makes it different from other tze char stall. Soft on the inside and a very tasty dish.


Next came the sweet and sour fish which we were a little disappointed due to the fish slices. They were too thinly sliced and a little too fishy to our liking. 


Our last dish was the fried brinjal with chicken floss which we must give 4 thumbs up! This is a dish to order. Crispy fried brinjal tossed with garlic fried chicken floss. It's so good and you cannot stop eating it. Excellent!

Overall, kam jia zhuang is another family tze char stall to consider for gathering but better be there early.

Idaten Udon at Citylink Mall

Kevin is feeling so happy as he finally gotten to try this udon store at citylink mall. Idaten udon is just situated beside sushi express. Simple japanese concept restaurant serving udon and tempura sides.

He ordered a limited period only udon for his main: kake togarashi udon.

This is udon made with Japanese red pepper. Unique yet delicious. Gives a spicy kick to the udon. For sides you can choose from a wide range of tempura. He ate his favourite crabmeat and squid ball tempura. There are other free flow sides like seaweed that one can put on their udon. Sauces offered in a wide range as well. 

2 thumbs up for their udon!

Ichiban Boshi Salmon Zukushi at Tiong Bahru Plaza

Ichiban Boshi Salmon Zukushi serves not only the dishes we commonly eat at the usual outlets, it concentrates on quite a wide variety of salmon related dishes. From sashimi to rice, there are different kinds of variations of cooking for the salmon. 

As a summer special, Ichiban Boshi offers new summer sushi varieties as well. One thing unique abt this outlet is we realised that there was no visible belt on the conveyor. Instead each sushi plate was moving on a very strong magnet attracted to a hidden conveyor top. Rather interesting..

For salmon specific dish, we ordered their recommended salmon yaki mishi.


It is basically fried rice with salmon flakes and corn, topped with salmon, salmon roe, leek and spring onion served with raw egg. It is served on a hot plate and the raw egg is supposedly to be poured ard the rice and mixed. Excellent dish as it tasted close to claypot salmon rice. 

For the summer special sushi, we ordered summer holiday. It is sushi roll topped with char siew. The overall combination is very well done as all flavors blended very well.

Besides the mentioned 2 dishes, we had our usual golden catch sushi, gyu shabu chasoba salad and cereal tori karaage. 




Thumbs up for their salad dish as the special made sesame sauce blended well with the chasoba. The cereal tori karaage was well fried and tender too.

Overall, Ichiban Boshi Salmon Zukushi offers a much wider variety of choices and it is definitely recommended for family and friends.

NiceDay Taiwan Dessert at Tiong Bahru Plaza

After dinner at Paik's Bibimbap, we decided to give the taiwanese dessert cafe beside it a try. NiceDay dessert serves grassjelly taro balls desserts like Blackball. 

Besides that, they offer other egglet ice cream dessert, waffles and snow ice. We were rather full after dinner so we gave their basic grassjelly taro q dessert a try.

The dessert has generous portions of red bean, nata de coco, taro balls, mochi and grassjelly. For the price, thought it was much more worth it then blackball. Grassjelly was smooth and not too sweet. Lovely dessert to go for on a hot day.

We will definitely be back to try their egglet ice cream dessert, so stay tune on our next review.

Paik's Bibimbap at Tiong Bahru Plaza

Guess most of us should have heard, seen or drank Paik's coffee in Seoul. Now they have outlets selling bibimbap in Singapore besides coffee. At Tiong Bahru Plaza level 2 food street, Paik's bibimbap is situated in between NiceDay taiwan dessert and Tea Valley.

There are only a few choices of bibimbap to choose from: beef, chicken or vegetarian. Hubby went for their beef bulogi version while i tried their warm noodles instead.



For sides, we chose sweet and spicy chicken. 


The rice bibimbap was served on the spot upon ordering as all the dishes were ready made. We waited 5 mins for the noodles and chicken to come. 

The rice bulogi bibimbap was well seasoned and goes very well with the spicy sauce. A little down point about this dish is that the rice is a little soggy. The noodles are better. Springy with lots of vegetables seasoned in sesame oil. Yummy! Fried chicken on their hand was so so. Nothing too special to comment on.

Paik's bibimbap is a quick and convenient Korean food alternative suitable for working adults and students during meal time. Worthwhile to give it a try!

Charcoal Thai & Wimi at 321 Clementi

We are back at Clementi today to explore more food. Our stop for today is at 321 Clementi. We intended to try Hongkong Wang cafe but were attracted by the lovely bbq smell coming out from Charcoal Thai.

As we walked towards the restaurant, a friendly staff greeted us with a great smile. We saw quite a few good promo like 50% off their alacarte dishes and mookata buffet. Since we had not much time, we decided to go for their alacarte dishes instead.

We ordered sambal kangkong, sweet and sour pork, fried omelette, seafood fried rice and thai boat noodle. 







First comment for the food is that they tasted more like homecook chinese meal than thai. Probably it's because they are cooked by a Chinese instead of pure Thai. The most Thai tasting dish was the sweet and sour pork. 

The thai boat noodle on the other hand was a disappointment as the soup base tasted bland and its not one mouthful like others. The portion is quite big for its price.

We found something missing after the meal.. So we went down to the 1st level to have coconut ice cream from Wimi. It was rather costly for 3 bucks. Just a small coconut ice cream scoop and one topping. The red ruby was too rose syrupy. Tasted like bundung coconut ice cream.

Overall, Charcoal Thai is one place where we can visit with frenz for their Mookata. Wimi on the other hand a little too expensive for their serving.

Back at MOF & Lenas at Jurong Point

We are back at our so-called favourite family restaurant for dinner. MOF & Lenas. But this time no more the CCK outlet but at Jurong Point.

Since we had japanese buffet on Wed, we decided to go for their Lenas menu instead. We ordered bacon and mushroom tomato cream pasta, grilled chicken all day breakfast pancakes and peanut butter sundae for dessert.

Pasta was good but nothing too special to comment abt. One food to mention is their pancakes. Surprisely, they so so well done. 


Fluffy, soft and buttery, the pancakes go really well with the maple syrup. 
Grilled chicken so fresh and tender as well. 


As for dessert, nothing special and not really worth the try.

We will definitely we back to try the rest of the dishes at this favourite restaurant.

Cafe Bene at Vivo City

Cafe Bene is rising up in ppularity in Singapore. It is a cafe from Korea and not only selling the usual coffee and cakes, they offer other dessert choices like bingsu and waffles.

For teabreak today, we decided to try their promotion set at 10 bucks. The set includes any cakes/wraps/waffles with a cup of tea or americano. For lattes or cappuccino, one just gotta top up 2 additional bucks.

We decided to try their tiramisu waffle and cappucino. The waffle batter is made of walnut and this gives the extra fragrance. Topped with soft cold tiramisu ice cream, this dessert is definitely delicious! 


The cappuccino on the other hand was a disappointment as the milk taste was too strong.

Overall in terms of coffee, there are other joints that could have done better. But one can go there to try their desserts.

Hokkaido Sushi at M Hotel

Today is a special day for me and hubby, our 8th wedding anniversary. Knowing that I love japanese food, Kevin brought me to this recommended japanese restaurant for its ala carte buffet dinner.

Hokkaido Sushi restaurant is situated at level 9 of M Hotel at Anson Road. Priced at 44++ per person, one can enjoy a wide variety of Japanese delicacies. One plus point is the portion is by per pc and this allow small eaters like us to try a wider variety of food.

We ordered in total abt 10 to 12 dishes as shown in the pictures. Just 2 words to describe the dishes:  Simply awesome! Even simple dishes like edamame tasted so good. Most of the time, edamame would taste cold but theirs is warm and each bean is huge and succulent. 




The must try dishes are all the fish sushi, pitan tofu, sashimi and salmon teriyaki.




If there are more stomach space, go for their tori karage which is crispy, juicy and tender.

We are happy with their services as well and this is definitely a worth while ala carte buffet dinner to try.

More on Three Little Pigs Eatery at Tiong Bahru Plaza

I am back at Three Little Pigs but this time with my hubby. Previously, my buddy and I ordered 2 mains and 1 side. Today we decided to try more sides. We ordered caesar salad, cheesy pork fries and fish and bacon frits. Caesar salad was normal, nothing too special to comment on. 2 thumbs up for the other 2 sides though. 

The cheesy pork fries consists of shoestring fries crispily fried and topped with sour cream and nacho cheese and minced pork. 




Simply awesome combination. The fish bites are fish pieces wrapped in bacon and fried with tempura batter accompanied by mango sauce. So fresh and good.

We concluded that we are also so in love with the pigs..

My Tze Char Trail - Part 8

With other bloggers promoting the list of must try tze char stalls, we decided to join in the fun to see if the food are really as good as what some describe.

First on our list to try is Hong Yun Kitchen at Blk 124 Toa Payoh Lorong 1. This tze char stall was in quite a no. of food variety shows and there are pictures of kym ng and sharon au advertising for them. We were there at 530pm to avoid the dinner crowd and saw many big round tables that were already reserved.

There are many recommended dishes and a must try is their white beehoon. Their version is slightly different from the Sembawang White beehoon which is wet. Hong Yun's version is dry and fried with lots of pork lard. 

It goes extremely well with the sambal belacan. Excellent combi! 


We ordered other dishes like salted egg chicken which was fried with celery as well to remove the greasiness. Well done! 


The other 2 dishes were luo han zai and prawn roll. Luo han zai was tasty and portion generous. 




We preferred the prawn roll from Sembawang white beehoon as hong yun ones are lacking the water chestnut bits.

Overall, Hong Yun Kitchen is a worthwhile tze char restaurant for family dinner. Go try it!

Coffee Club Express at Wisma Atria

With the GSS promotion still on, Coffee Club Express is offering set meals (main course + drink) at 2 sets for $25 till end Jul'16. Not forgoing such a deal, we made our way to one of their branches at Wisma Atria.

It was rather quiet despite being dinner time. We were served by friendly staff and shown to our seats. Kevin decided to go for the chicken bolognese spaghetti while I tried their chicken and mushroom baked rice. We had english breakfast tea for drinks. 

We added additional chicken nachos for sides. The mushroom chicken baked rice was a little dry, but tasted still quite acceptable. Chicken bolognese spaghetti was a better choice. Pasta and chicken gravy was an excellent combination. 

Finally, as for the nachos, nothing too special to mentioned on as they tasted like ordinary nachoes with gravy.

Coffee Club Express is an affordable cafe for the younger ones and to whom they wish to meet.
