With 60 years of rich history, Nam Heong Ipoh stands renowned for preserving the timeless flavours of Ipoh’s culinary heritage. Through the years, Nam Heong has continually spread it's awesome dishes across many parts of Malaysia, with their latest franchise outlet opened at Mid-Valley Southkey Johor Bahru.
Located on the 3rd floor of the huge and newly opened Mid-Valley Southkey, Nam Heong Ipoh offers a very a good breakfast choice to many Singaporeans and locals. Opened as early as 9am, the restaurant offers not only the highly recommended Ipoh chicken horfun, but also a wide variety of breakfast toasts and dim sums.
The ambience of the restaurant is very cosy and well decorated. Ordering is done via iPad but strangely, orders are still being messed up. We realised that the orders still need to be processed manually by the service staff thus causing mistakes in the orders. Food and drink services are slow but fortunately it was made up by the good food.
We ordered all their highly recommended dishes.
1. President toast (RM6.50) - it's actually kaya butter toast. But why President because it uses President butter together with its homemade kaya. The toast was very well done to the right crispness. 2 thumbs up and it's the best kaya toast that I have tasted so far!! Rating: 4.5/5
2. Ipoh white coffee (RM4.60) - strong and nicely brewed white coffee that wakes us up with the awesome aroma. A must order drink for coffee lovers. But do ask for less sweet version. Rating: 4/5
3. Chicken horfun (RM11.50) - smooth silky horfun in soup with shredded chicken and prawn. The soup was a little too strong in fried shallot taste. Rating: 3.8/5
4. Chicken char siew su (RM3.80) - freshly baked pastry with char siew filling. The crust was buttery and flaky and tasted so good when it's hot. Rating: 4/5
5. Egg tart (RM3.30) - this is a must try snack!! Flaky crust with smooth and silky egg filling. Goes so well with the white coffee. Rating: 4.2/5
Overall, we love the food but the food service will need to be improved. Hopefully operations will be smoother during our next visit.
