Kei Kaisendon is a Japanese restaurant that serves delicious rice bowls topped with fresh sashimi from Japan. For non sashimi eaters, there are other cooked food dons available. There are many other sides to choose from the menu as add-ons.
As of today, Kei Kaisendon has 5 branches in all, with Raffles Place being their 1st outlet. We were at their Square 2 outlet today for dinner. The restaurant could house about 20 people and it's best to make reservation via online or call before going down to avoid the queue. We ordered 2 of their mains and several other add-ons.
1. Unagi Kaisendon ($19.90) - a medium size bowl topped generously with sashimi bits, including salmon, scallops and swordfish with green seaweed and roasted unagi. There are actually 4 ways of eating the Kaisendon, with the most basic of eating it with wasabi. The sashimi were very fresh and sweet and goes so well with the bowl of rice. Rating: 4.2/5
2. Salmon mentaiyaki don ($13.90) - lightly torched mentaiko salmon fillet with tamago mentaiyaki and onsen egg on rice. Love the mentaiko sauce and it's really a very delicious mentaiko don to savour on for mentaiko lovers. Rating: 4/5
3. Sides - corn ($1.50), miso soup ($2), tamago mentaiyaki ($4.90) and chicken drumlet ($2.50) - all the sides are simply delicious and worth the try, especially for the tamago mentaiyaki which goes extremely well with the unagi kaisendon. Would highly recommend it as a must try add-on. Rating: 4/5
Overall, we are definitely very pleased with the food and will definitely be back if we have any craving for fresh Japanese rice bowl. Yummy!
