We were here at 431 Clementi Food Loft coffeeshop previously to review on the tze char. As promised, we are back here today to try out the popular Collin's Grill.Bento.

Collin's Grill.Bento was founded by chef Collin Ho, who had 17yrs of culinary experience in western food. With his creative creations offered, he believes in providing to his customers restaurant quality western food at affordable prices.

There was a wide range of food to choose from. From the usual western grills and pasta, Collin's also offer japanese bento sets. We decided to give both their grill and bento a try. We ordered the following:

1. Pork chop with chicken chipolata ($9.80) - large slab of tenderly grilled pork chop with black pepper sauce and 2 small pcs of chicken chipolata accompanied with fresh salad, spaghetti and corn cob. The food tasted great and could see the enjoyment on Kevin's face. Rating: 4/5

2. Salmon teriyaki and tori karaage bento ($8.90) - large flat pc of salmon grilled and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Portion was huge. The tori karaage was deliciously fried on the outside and so tender on the inside. Salmon was a little fishy and fortunately there was the teriyaki sauce to cover. Rating: 3.5/5

3. Smoked duck salad ($5.90) - we simply loved this dish! The tanginess of the sauce was so appetizing and we enjoyed the freshness of the salad so much. The smoked duck combination was simply heavenly with the fruity tangy sauce. Rating: 4.2/5

For an affordable, good quality western meal, Collin's Grill.Bento is one stall to be visited. We personally prefer it over Char-Grill Bar.

Their first outlet at Somerset 313 basement has attracted large crowds and were given very good review for their food, especially for their stews. With such popularity, Masizzim opened their 2nd outlet at Westgate during April timeframe this year. The restaurant took over previous Poulet.

Fave was having their promo vouchers for Masizzim. For $50 on the ala carte food, you just gotta pay $32.50. The queue was long by the time we reached at about 630pm.

We were given the menu to choose our food first while waiting. Ordering was done ahead by one of the friendly staffs. We ordered 4 of their must order dishes. They are:

1. Pork ribs stew with soy base ($16.90) - there are differents meats to choose from and we heard that the pork ribs were the best. The stew was sweet and pork ribs stewed so tenderly that they fall apart when you pick them up. You can choose glass noodles or udon to be added and stew base can be spicy as well. There were slices of mushrooms and tokpokki in it. Perfect stew on a cold day. Each stew comes with a bowl of rice but can be bundled with riceballs as a set which will be cheaper than individual. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Riceballs (Tuna) ($9.80) - together with the stew, the riceballs are charged at $7.80. It is served in a bowl with kimchi, tuna, rice and seaweed. Gloves are provided for mixing and we are suppose to roll them into balls after mixing. The balls tasted ordinary and it was not as good as the ones we had in Korea. Rating: 3/5

3. Tuna egg roll ($10.80)- a must order dish for egg lovers. Freshly cooked eggs rolled with tuna, seaweed and cheese. It was drizzled with tomato sauce and mayo. Rating: 4/5

4. Tomato cheese kimchi pancake ($13.80) - this tasted like korean pizza. The crust was crispy and pancake batter was mixed with kimchi and tomato. A unique dish to try and it will be good to share among 3 persons at least as it was quite filling. Rating: 3.5/5

Restaurant service was good and food was promptly served within 10mins. With the Fave offer going on, it is definitely worth a try to visit the restaurant especially for their delicious stews.

JEW KIT was founded by Mr Teo Jew Kit, an authentic Hainanese when he started selling chicken rice at a small stall in 1992. Besides the original steamed chicken rice, JEW KIT has been creating innovative dishes to go along with the original chicken rice.

The restaurant located at level 2 of Far East Plaza was the latest branch opened. The restaurant was decorated with a nostalgic ambience. Wooden furniture and playing retro music.

There are bird cages hanging from the ceiling as well. With Fave promotion once again, we bought $25 worth $50 voucher. This is applicable to all food and drinks on the ala carte menu. Price is subjected to 7% gst with no service charge.

We ordered 3 dishes in total:

1. Half steamed chicken ($18) - probably a little pricey for half chicken but chicken portion was huge. Chicken was tender but lack the chicken flavor. Tasted rather bland and fortunately that we had the chicken rice chilli to accompany it. The rice was also plain and definitely categorised to be the healthy version. Rating: 3/5

3. Fried garlic kailan ($10) - vegetable portion was generous and rather fragrantly fried. Rating: 3.8/5

For chicken rice, we personally preferred the oilier and unhealthy version. JEW KIT could definitely do better with their original chicken rice.

Hillion Mall has been known to be a food paradise shopping mall to many in Bt. Panjang. Just level 2 alone has about 8 restaurants in total. We are here today to review on Kowloon Bay HK Cafe.

Kowloon Bay HK Cafe is an open concept restaurant that serves HK cuisine. Unlike Xin Wang and other cafes that are more popular for their nissin noodles and street foods, Kowloon Cafe is popular for their roasted meat dishes and fried rice. We ordered 3 dishes for today:

1. HK style braised meat fried beehoon ($12.90) - one long thin slab of braised meat placed on beehoon fried in the braised meat sauce. The meat was tender and not too fatty. The beehoon was a little lumpy but still well quite well coated with the sauce. Overall a very tasty dish to enjoy. Rating: 3.7/5

2. Kowloon Bay fragrant rice with fish fillet and soup ($11.90) - fragrantly fry salted fish fried rice accompanied by 2 pcs of fresh and tender fish fillet. The rice was Q. Fish fried to the golden brown crispiness on the outside and tenderwhite flesh on the inside. Rice comes with free ABC soup. Rating: 3.9/5

3. Double mushrooms with fried baby kailan ($10.90) - generous portion of fried baby kailan with mushrooms. The dish was tad too salty and would go better with plain rice. Rating: 3.5/5

There were lots of reviews on their crossiant with char siew as well and we should be back to try it the next round during lunch. Service was a little slow as they seemed shorthanded. Nevertheless food was still promptly served within 10mins upon ordering. Kowloon HK Cafe is subjected to 10% service charge but no gst.

Previously I have blogged on Ming Kitchen outlets at Clementi and Holland V. Today we are here to try another of their outlet at Yew Tee Square. Ming Kitchen is one of the stalls in Kopitiam situated on the 2nd level of Yew Tee Square. The menu items are very similar to the ones offered at Clementi.

To do some comparison, we ordered 3 of our all time favorite dishes from Ming Kitchen:

1. Yangzhou fried rice ($4) - very fragrantly fried. The rice tasted so good and goes excellently well with the cut green chilli or belacan chilli. Rating: 3.9/5
Yangzhou fried rice - Ming Kitchen at Yew Tee Square - Paulin's Munchies

2. Stir fried sweet potato leaves with fermented beancurd ($7) - the leaves were a little clumpy and dry. Some of which were bitter. Rating: 3/5

3. Thai style chicken ($12) - the chicken cutlet was flat and full of batter and skin. Thai sauce was good but was too little. The sauce were at the bottom instead of drizzled over the chicken. Rating: 3/5

Among the 3 outlets, the one at Holland Drive remains the best. Guess it would be great for such branches to standardize the cooking throughout all outlets, but maybe only if we can start having robot cooks!

Everytime when we pass by Orchid Hotel at Tanjong Pagar, we are always so attracted by the crowd in 2 small shops. The crowd are laughing and many of them with the bright smile on their face. We took a look at the menu and realised that they are fully booked till next month and reservations would need to be placed 2 to 3 months in advance.

Teppei Japanese Restaurant is what we are referring to and has been rumoured to be the cheapest and value for money omakase in Singapore. The restaurant has only counter seats and one thing to note is not to bring too many stuff along.

There are space limitations and all customers are seated shoulder to shoulder. All ingredients are freshly flown in from Japan and there are no fixed menu. You eat what they cook based on the ingredients they have.

The omakase is about a 10 course meal and fortunately the portion isn't too big. Only 2 seating timings are available: 6.30pm and 8.30pm. The pictures you see probably describes the creativeness of the chef and all are ensured with quality and taste.

Besides the good food served, the entire 2hrs meal was interactive and fun with the servers and chef playing along with the customers. We love the fun and food. Pictures of the food and people says it all!

The only setback is the price although it is considered to be one of the cheapest omakase. Mon to thurs set are at $60 per pax and Fri to Sun at $80 per pax. Prices are subjected to gst and service charge. This is definitely one restaurant where you would take at least 30 photo shots for all the food and happenings.

Located at the 1st floor of Golden Mile Complex, Happy Ice Dessert serves korean bingsu, waffles and of course, being in a Thai richly influenced complex, they serve rich coconut ice cream in coconut husk. After our delicious thai food and chilli mee, we went for their coconut ice cream. 2 scoops with 2 toppings at $4.90 and 3 scoops with 3 toppings at $5.90.

The coconut ice cream is more milky as compared to the rest that we have eaten so far. The ingredients are fresh and we love the atap seeds and grated peanut combination. Simply awesome on a hot weather and so good to remove the spiciness from our stomach. The other bingsu served looks good as well and we should be back to try the rest!

Today is a hawker food exploration at Beach Road. With 2 of our buddies who loves food and eating, we are here with them at Golden Mile Food Center to explore some of the center's very delicious food. Today's 2 stalls are Pauline Thai food and Chung Cheng Chilli Mee on the 2nd floor of the center.

From Pauline Thai, we ordered 5 dishes in all. They are as follow:

1. Fried tang hoon ($5) - generous portion of fragrantly fried tang hoon with lots of ingredients. Portion is good enough to share among 2 people. It has a slight burnt taste which was great! Rating: 3.8/5

2. Green curry chicken ($7) - huge bowl of thick green curry gravy with lots of brinjal. The brinjal is cooked to the right texture and the gravy didn't taste too coconutty. Other types of cream could have been added. Rating: 4/5

As a side dish, we tried the chilli mee from Chung Cheng Chilli Mee. It was like prawn noodle but the special homemade chilli sauce tossed made it especially good. The ingredients are prawn, ribs, fish cake and eggs. Yummy and deserves thumbs up!
