Azuma Sushi Japanese Restaurant, under Edo Ichi Group, is their first flagship restaurant in Singapore. The restaurant's other branches are all in Malaysia. Located at B1 of Tanjong Pagar Center, it can be easily accessible via MRT.
Azuma in Japanese means East and the restaurant believes in bringing the taste of eastern empire for our locals to try. There is a wide variety of food choices to choose from and the structure of the menu looked very much like Sushi Tei's.
There are daily/weekly promotions going on for some of their ala carte dishes, sets and nigiri sushi. With these wonderful offer, we went for 6 items in total.
1. Volcano roll ($12.80) - 8pcs of sushi roll with assorted fish and special mayo sauce. The sauce was tangy and special with the bits of fishes on top of the roll. A special roll to try. Rating: 3.5/5
2. Yasai Itame ($4) - fried vegetables fried in japanese seasoning and topped with bonito flakes. The dish wasn't as tasty as the one served at Sushi Tei and cabbage was a little undercooked. Rating: 3/5
3. Tori karaage ($7.90) - 5pcs of specially marinated chicken deep fried and accompanied with mentai mayo sauce. The chicken was juicy but tasted a little plain for karaage. The marination could have been stronger. Rating: 3.2/5
4. Agedashi tofu ($4.80) - deep fried beancurd with nameko mushrooms and sauce. This dish was prepared differently from the usual agedashi tofu. Tofu was soft and silky and with the overall combination of the sauce and mushrooms, it served as an excellent dish with rice. Rating: 3.8/5
5. Assorted sushi ($6.20) - with the nigiri sushi offer, we had inari kani mayo, shiok mentai aburi and ebi mentai aburi. The rice was marinated nicely in vinegar and sushi toppings very fresh. Rating: 4/5
Service was excellent at the restaurant with every staff very attentive to the customers. Ambience was good and its a nice restaurant to be considered for family/friends gathering. Prices are subjected to 10% service charge and 7% gst but definitely considered value for money.
