Tensho by M.O.F (Ministry of Food) has opened another outlet at Orchard Cineleisure basement after its first outlet at Centerpoint.
Tensho uses Hitomebore Japanese rice, meaning the rice is unforgettably tasty and shiny and its a product of Iwate prefecture in Japan.
Besides the standard tendon, Tensho offers other tempura sets with udon and soba for those who are not rice lovers. Order has to be made at the cashier before seating and cash/nets are allowed. We ordered 2 sets:
1. Mixed tendon set ($14.90) - mixed tendon with spicy or original sauce. The mixed tendon include mushroom, pumpkin, eggplant, string beans, prawns and fish. We were a little disappointed with its batter. Was not crispy and tasted rather plain. Had to drizzle with lots of their tensho sauce to add on the flavor. The onsen tempura egg was overcooked and not runny enough. Rating: 3/5
2. Tempura cha soba set ($16.90) - similar mixed tendon served in basket with cold soba. The soba tasted better than the tendon. The soba sauce was flavourful and goes well with the cold soba. Rating: 3.2/5
Each set comes with chawamushi and free flow of pickles. Chawamushi was smooth and tasty but pickles were plain. The tendon bowl could have been done better, with tastier and crispier batter and more sauce.
