Station 51 at Boat Quay

Station 51 is a cozy food and drink pub located along the bustling Boat Quay. It's right beside Korean restaurant Oven Chicken and Beer.  The menu at Station 51 isn't extensive but it offers the most basic sides and mains good for sharing with friends and with beer. 

There is live band every Wed and Fri, from 8pm to 11pm. Via Eatigo, we managed to get a good offer of 50% discount off all food menu except drinks.

We opted for their outdoor seating just right by the river and it was really a good ambience to catch up with friends. We 2 gals ordered 2 sides and 1 main.

1. Chicken karaage ($14) - a generous portion of fried crispy chicken pcs very well marinated in the batter. The meat was juicy and goes so well with mayo and chili sauce. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Salted egg fries ($12) - another huge portion of crisply fried shoestring fries dusted with salted egg powder and curry leaves. Simply awesome fries with beer. Rating: 4.2/5

3. Chicken satay fried rice ($10.90) - 5pcs of tenderly grilled chicken satay marinated with peanut sauce on mushroom fried rice. The satay tasted so good even without the peanut sauce. The rice was ordinary though but portion was generous as usual. Rating: 4/5

We were surprised with the high food standard and hopefully they could maintain the portion and standard as time goes by. We will definitely revisit with our friends and this time on Fri for live band.

Folks Collective at China Square Central

This is another great Eatigo deal highly recommended for food eaters that love Thai food. Situated beside Sushi Tei at China Square Central, Folks Collective is a modern yet authentic Thai restaurant cum bar that serves lovely authentic thai food with a modern twist. 

We were taken aback by the wonderful deco of the restaurant. Lovely restaurant with wood decorations and a modern feel. We took quite a no of photos of the interior. 

The staffs are mainly Thai, who spoke English with a strong Thai accent. Found it difficult to decipher what they say at times. Feeling hungry, we ordered 5 dishes in all. They are: 

1. Olive rice with chicken - fragrantly fried rice with olive bits served with pcs of chicken by the side. The rice tasted awesome. 

2. Red curry lychee chicken - this is unlike the usual red curry chicken that can be quite thick in coconut gravy. It is slightly more watery and you can drink it like soup. There are lots of ingredients in it and the lychee added a fruity flavour to the curry. Great combination. 

3. Street omelette plain - not as fluffy as the rest of the Thai restaurants omelette but still tasted good.

4. Stir fried kangkong - fragrantly fried kangkong with garlic and little chilli padi to add a spicy kick to the dish.

5. Prawn cakes - we love these juicy minced prawn cakes with plum sauce. No oily taste. Highly recommended side dish.

For dessert, we had their recommended red ruby. Crunchy red ruby with jackfruit in coconut. Wonderful to end the meal this way. 

With the 50% discount, Folks Collective definitely offers both wonderful food and ambience to customers.

Coq & Balls at Kim Tian Road (Tiong Bahru)

Another Groupon voucher offer at this pub/restaurant, Coq & Balls. Food and non-alcoholic drinks are at 50% of the normal price. Being a pub, they offer more finger food than mains. Guess all the finger fried food goes better with beer and alcoholic drinks.

We were welcomed by a friendly staff who showed us to our table. We decided to try 2 mains and 1 side today. Fish & chips, mixed chicken and mushroom quesadilla and crispy pork. First came the quesadilla. 4 to 5 pcs of small quesadilla accompanied by tortilla chips. 


Not too bad... But they weren't as good as those served in authentic mexican restaurant. We waited another 10 mins for the fish & chips and crispy pork. Portion was generous for these 2 dishes. 

Would give recommendation to the fish & chips as it was nicely fried with a thin batter. The fries were addictive. The crispy pork side was accompanied by their homemade thai chilli sauce which was great combination. However we think that this dish would go better with beer.

Overall, Coq and Balls is a place for the young for gathering. One could order their alcoholic drinks with some sides to chat through the night.
