Magic Kitchen at Ang Mo Kio Ave 10

Magic Kitchen is a family friendly little cafe located at Ang Mo Kio housing estate. This cosy family runned cafe is well liked and so popular among the residents here. It is actually a stone's throw away from the all popular Pine Garden bakery. 

  

Orders are to be taken first at the cashier and an alphabet will be assigned to the customer while waiting for table to be arranged. This cafe opens from 8am to 2pm daily except on Tuesday where it is closed. Magic Kitchen offers a wide variety of thick toast, ranging from their all popular honey butter toast to savoury flavours like egg mayo and cheese tuna. Besides toast, the cafe also offer local delights like bee hoon, Soon kuehs, chee cheong fun and desserts and drinks. We were there after lunch hour and thus there weren't much crowd. Here's our order for today:

 

1. Fried beehoon ($2) - the beehoon was so fragrantly fried and very homely. Simply love the homely old school taste. A must try!! Rating: 4.5/5

  

2. Soon kueh ($0.70) - priced at only 70cents per pc, it was so soft and delicious. The turnip filling was just enough and all goes so well with the chilli and sweet sauce. Rating: 4.2/5

 

 3. Green bean soup ($1.80) - a bowl of delicious green bean soup so cooling and just right for the hot weather. Rating: 4/5

 

 4. Tuna cheese thick toast ($2.60) - 1 of their must try flavors other than their egg mayo. The tuna tasted a little like sardine. The toast was so soft on the centre and the crust toasted to perfection. Awesome thick toast to try!! Rating: 4.3/5

 

 5. Coffee - $1 for normal kopi and $1.80 for Irish creme coffee. Decent drinks.

 

 We really enjoyed this value-for-money meal. So homely and we loved every single dish of theirs. We will definitely be back for more!!

Toastbox at Yew Tee Point

Introducing new bread menu from Toastbox. Spicy tuna with egg toast and Egg with cheese toast. Priced at $6.40, each set comes with a large cup of kopi/tea. 

The spicy tuna was tangy in taste and it has the Thai herby taste. A fusion twist indeed. Portion is small and definitely not enough to fill the guy's tummy. For its taste, its worth the try but in terms of price, definitely not worth it.

To fill the tummy, it would be recommended to try their mee goreng set instead. Priced at $5.60, the noodle comes with egg and luncheon meat plus a large cup of tea/kopi. Tasted quite good and portion is just right.

Besides this, they also have the tok gong chilli crab combi. So visit Toastbox while promotion is still on.

Qi Ji at Star Vista

Qi Ji's signature food include Handmade Popiah and Nasi Lemak. They are certified Halal thus becoming a very popular eating joint among the Muslims who enjoy Nasi Lemak. 

We were at their Star Vista outlet this afternoon for lunch. We went for their snacks instead of main meal as we wanted a light lunch at 2pm. We ordered the following snacks: 

1. Chee cheong fun - the portion was little. The rice flour roll was soft and the sweet sauce and chilli accompanying it was delicious. It made a great SG snack. Rating: 3.8/5

2. Soon kueh - it was not the best we had as the skin was rather thick. Fortunately the sauce, chilli and fried shallots enhanced the overall taste. Rating: 3.2/5

3. Popiah - freshly wrapped popiah with generous radish filling. Their homemade popiah did win us over. The overall combination and taste was good. Rating: 4/5

4. Cheng teng - simple homecook dessert that was not too tasty. Not sweet and was tasteless. The ingredients were generous though. Rating: 2.8/5
