Thai Express is the world's largest modern Thai restaurant under Minor Food Group Singapore. It serves modern thai cuisine with a local twist.

One interesting item on their menu is their curry chicken with prata. We didn't order it this round as we were more interested in their other more authentic Thai food.

We ordered 4 items in total. 2 appetizers and 2 mains. For appetizers, we had mango salad and seafood otah. The mango salad was ordinary. Shredded young mango tossed in thai fish sauce, chilli padi and peanuts.
Paulin's Munchies - Thai Express at Clementi Mall - Mango Salad

Paulin's Munchies - Thai Express at Clementi Mall - Seafood Otah

The seafood otah is something recommended. We expected ordinary otah but there were chunks of fish, prawns and sotongs in the otah. It was nice. Our mains include fried rice with honey chicken and oyster sauce kailan with mushrooms
Paulin's Munchies - Thai Express at Clementi Mall - Oyster Sauce Kailan with mushroom

Paulin's Munchies - Thai Express at Clementi Mall - Fried rice with honey chicken

The egg fried rice was a little plain. No fried rice fragrance. But the honey chicken helped to enhance the taste a little.

The vegetable on the other hand was tad too salty. Guess the chef might have added too much oyster sauce.

The ambience of the restaurant was comfortable. Not too many people and at the correct temperature. Food serving was rather prompt as well.

This restaurant can be considered if you are not too particular on the authentic Thai food taste.

Items Ordered:

Hillion Mall is the newest shopping mall recently launched in Bt Panjang. Some shops are still undergoing renovation but there is a wide range of food and restaurants to choose from.

To beat the crowd, our family went to queue for Dian Xiao Er at 530pm.

The restaurant is very crowded at 530pm. The aircon circulation isn't very strong thus was a little stuffy with the crowd. We were shown to a corner table.

Below was the list of food that we ordered:

1. Angelica Duck - their highly recommended and popular dish. Roasted duck with herbal sauce. The duck was tender and herbal sauce very fragrant.

2. Baby kai lan - nothing too special about this dish. Basically its stir fried kailan with garlic.

3. Lotus root with Pumpkin - we simply love this dish. Thinly sliced lotus root fried and drizzled with pumpkin salted egg sauce. Two thumbs up for this dish.

4. Mongolian pork ribs - tender and boneless pork ribs deep fried and coated with black pepper sauce.

5. Mushroom in C.W - different mushrooms ( button, straw and abalone) stir fried in oyster sauce. Was well done.

6. Sambal seafood - sambal sotong and prawn in hotplate. Love this dish for its spiciness and fragrance.

7. Braised fish maw soup - thick and gooey soup with fish maw, crabmeat and dried scallop. Not the best that we have eaten but its still acceptable.

Overall, for a nice Chinese family meal, Dian Xiao Er can be considered.

But it may be better to visit other branches to avoid the unnecessary crowd.

This is our first time exploring food at Geylang. Geylang has been known for its food and red light district. One of the highly recommended good food includes this bak kut teh stall that we will be visiting for dinner.

Leong Kee Bak Kut Teh originated from KL Klang. Unlike the other bak kut teh like Old Street whereby the soup base is clear and peppery, Leong Kee offers the dark and thick herbal soup based in claypots.
Paulin's Munchies - Leong Kee (Klang) Bak Kut Teh at Geylang Lor 11 - Bak Kut Teh

The soup is served piping hot and boiling. In the soup, besides the usual pork ribs, you can choose to put in 3 layer fatty meat. There is lettuce and beancurd skin in the soup as well. Very thick soup base that goes very well with white rice and you tiao.
Paulin's Munchies - Leong Kee (Klang) Bak Kut Teh at Geylang Lor 11 - You Tiao and braised nuts

You could taste the herbal flavour in it. Just a pity that their you tiao is not as good as that of Old Street's.

Besides bak kut teh, we ordered their highly recommended stew pig trotters. This dish is excellent! Tender pig trotters stewed in claypot.
Paulin's Munchies - Leong Kee (Klang) Bak Kut Teh at Geylang Lor 11 - Stew pig trotters

The sauce has a slight burnt taste which gives the flavour of eating claypot rice. Awesome! Their side dishes like braised peanuts and oyster sauce kailan were good as well.
Paulin's Munchies - Leong Kee (Klang) Bak Kut Teh at Geylang Lor 11 - Oyster sauce Kailan

Overall, for herbal bak kut teh, Leong Kee is definitely the stall to visit. Parking may be difficult in Geylang, thus might be easier to access the stall by mrt and walking.

Nothing beats a bowl of hot pipping soup on a cold rainy evening. It has been raining since early afternoon today and the rain just stopped at about 6pm in the evening.

We went down to Chinatown to try Korean food. Jang Won Restaurant is a Korean owned authentic restaurant located at Mosque Street.

The boss of the restaurant was a friendly Korean middle aged family man. His family is there to help out with his wife at the counter. There was quite a wide range of food to choose from.

We went for the stew section and ordered their ttukbaegi bulgogi, which is bulgogi in hotpot.
Paulin's Munchies - Jang Won Korean Restaurant at Mosque Street - Ttukbaegi-bulgogi

Paulin's Munchies - Jang Won Korean Restaurant at Mosque Street - Side dishes and Korean Beer

The bowl looks small, but the ingredients was generous. Lots of beef slices with vegetables, onions and tapioca noodles. The soup base was very sweet and goes well with a bowl of rice.

Besides the hot stew, we ordered their all time popular spring onion pancake. It is Korean pancake with seafood and spring onions. So tasty that you eat it on its own without dipping in the sauce. The last dish was rabokki. Rabokki is basically rice cake with ramen.

Paulin's Munchies - Jang Won Korean Restaurant at Mosque Street - Spring onion pankcake

Paulin's Munchies - Jang Won Korean Restaurant at Mosque Street - Rabokki

Unlike some restaurants, the rice cake was really soft and chewy. Sauce looks hot but it has a sweet factor to lessen the spiciness level. Awesome!

Together with a glass of beer, its simply shiok and nothing beats this food enjoyment.

Jang Won is a highly recommended restaurant for korean stew and other hot food.

In continuation of our tze char exploration, we tried Ming Kitchen at Holland Drive. This is another branch of Ming Kitchen.

Previously we reviewed on the branch at Clementi. This branch is popular for their crab dishes, thus it is also named as King of Crabs.

Unfortunately we are not crab enthu and decided to go for their normal dishes instead. They offer some other special dishes like KL black hokkien noodles.

We ordered that as our staple and accompanied with thai style mango crispy chicken and fermented beancurd tapioca leaves.

The KL black hokkien noodle tasted delicious despite not having the authentic taste. It tasted more like fried Japanese udon but taste was still good. Goes well with the belacan chilli.
Paulin's Munchies - Ming Kitchen at 40 Holland Drive - KL fried hokkien noodles

The fermented beancurd tapioca leaves was well fried with garlic, ginger and fermented beancurd. Have always expected tapioca leaves to be fried with sambal but didn't expect that it tasted as good without it.

We love the last dish best: Thai style chicken. The chicken is tenderly fried in bread crumbs and then drizzled generously with thai sauce topped with shredded mango, onions and cucumber. A dish that is appetizing and opens up one's appetite.

Though belonging to the same company, each of the Ming Kitchen branch has their own speciality and style of cooking.

So for families staying around Holland, its another pocket friendly tze char stall to consider.

This is another great Eatigo deal highly recommended for food eaters that love Thai food. Situated beside Sushi Tei at China Square Central, Folks Collective is a modern yet authentic Thai restaurant cum bar that serves lovely authentic thai food with a modern twist.

We were taken aback by the wonderful deco of the restaurant. Lovely restaurant with wood decorations and a modern feel. We took quite a no of photos of the interior.

The staffs are mainly Thai, who spoke English with a strong Thai accent. Found it difficult to decipher what they say at times. Feeling hungry, we ordered 5 dishes in all. They are:

1. Olive rice with chicken - fragrantly fried rice with olive bits served with pcs of chicken by the side. The rice tasted awesome.
Paulin's Munchies - Folks Collective at China Square Central - Olive rice chicken

2. Red curry lychee chicken - this is unlike the usual red curry chicken that can be quite thick in coconut gravy. It is slightly more watery and you can drink it like soup. There are lots of ingredients in it and the lychee added a fruity flavour to the curry. Great combination.
Paulin's Munchies - Folks Collective at China Square Central - Red curry lychee chicken

3. Street omelette plain - not as fluffy as the rest of the Thai restaurants omelette but still tasted good.

4. Stir fried kangkong - fragrantly fried kangkong with garlic and little chilli padi to add a spicy kick to the dish.

5. Prawn cakes - we love these juicy minced prawn cakes with plum sauce. No oily taste. Highly recommended side dish.

It meant to be an advance birthday celebration for my hubby. We took the 1-for-1 promotion for POSB/DBS credit card for Triple Three Restaurant buffet lunch to celebrate this wonderful occasion.

This was the 3rd time eating the buffet lunch for me but first time for Kevin. We were shown to our table by friendly staff and we started on our feast.

First on our list was definitely the freshly sliced sashimi. Each salmon slice so juicy and sweet. Mmm... There was a wide variety of salad section, japanese section, Indian section, western section and lastly the dessert and fruits section.

We love the indian naan with the various curries. Still so good as ever. The roast slices are very good as well. The beef and turkey ham so tender.

The freshly cooked pastas were excellent! The linguine cooked to the right springiness and taste.

The dessert variety was wide. From carrot cakes to kuehs, they tasted good and goes well with the black coffee offered on the machine. Yummilicious!

For this one for one promo, Triple Three offers good variety of buffet for lunch and its worth giving this restaurant a try with family and frenz.

Happy advance birthday Hubby!

This is one of the best mala xiang guo stall that we have tried so far. Located at Food Pavilion coffee shop behind Clementi Mall, the stall offers a wide and fresh variety of vegetables, seafood and meat choices.

Seafood ranges from prawns, fish maw to sotong etc. Really spoilt for choices.

We picked a great variety of different vegetables from mushrooms to fungus to vegetables.

The plate feels heavy but surprisingly the bowl of food with 2 huge bowls of rice cost $16.80 only! For this portion at other places, it could easily cost us $25 or more. No wonder this stall is so popular among the students.
Paulin's Munchies - Mala Xiang Guo at Food Pavilion Clementi Central - Mala Tiangguo

We loved their mala taste. At the least spiciness level, we could still taste the mala kick from the food. Simply awesome!

For mala lovers, pls do give this stall a try for cheap and delicious mala xiang guo! For non spicy eaters, they have the ingredients fried with oyster sauce that tasted equally good.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! On such a lovely day, hubby brought me to this cosy cafe cafe at Jln Bukit Ho Swee for Vday dinner.

The dinner reservation was done via Chope and we were entitled 10% discount.

Sin Lee Foods is about 10 mins walk from Tiong Bahru MRT. The cafe has limited indoor seats and there wasn't much table space.

They have outdoor seats which were much more spacious. Food had to be ordered at the counter and will be served.

We ordered some of their signature dishes as follow:

1. Beef and grains - 180gm of stirloin steak wonderfully marinated and cooked to the right texture served on japanese orzo rice in gravy and topped with runny sunny side egg and ginger. The overall combination was simply excellent!
Paulin's Munchies - Sin Lee Foods at Jln Bukit Ho Swee - Beef and Grains

2. Sin Lee fried chicken with waffle - their so called one and only waffle chicken dish but was a tad disappointing to us as the chicken thigh was overly fried and little tough. The waffle was freshly made upon order and tasted quite good.
Paulin's Munchies - Sin Lee Foods at Jln Bukit Ho Swee - Sin Lee Fried Chicken Waffle

3. Aburi broccoli salad - smokey torched broccoli salad with white balsamic, papadam and red sugar. This is a highly recommended side dish to order as the combination is simply awesome! Have never tasted such good broccoli dish. 4 thumbs up!

Ending work late today, we took bus no. 61 to Holland Village to have a quick dinner. We ended up at the hawker center.

We were browsing around on what to eat and decided to settle for a nameless stall selling Japanese bento sets and Korean rice sets.

We ordered their chicken cutlet and gyoza bento. Priced at $6, the portion was generous. The cutlet was slightly marinated with chilli powder and crispily fried. Meat was tender.

The gyoza was also freshly fried on the spot. The teriyaki sauce accompanying it was ordinary but thousand island sauce was nice.

For a quick and economical meal, this stall could certainly be considered.

Holland Village, an area so lively on Fri nights, never fails to disappoint one looking for food and drinks. Just opposite Nakhon Kitchen is 720 Bistro & The Toys, a restaurant that serves authentic north indian and western cuisine.

We bought a Groupon offer, $36 for $60 worth of food. Voucher is also applicable for drinks but non alcoholic ones.

We self served ourselves to the outdoor table as the weather was cooling and windy. Dinner menu was as follow:

1. Caesar salad - freshly tossed romaine lettuce with cheese, bacon, croutons, eggs and caesar salad sauce. The lettuce was so crunchy and tasted refreshing.
Paulin's Munchies - 720 Bistro & The Toys at Holland Village - Caesar Salad

2. Vodka battered calamari - lightly battered vodka calamari served with tartar sauce. The squid rings are so tender and fresh and the batter so crispy and tasty.

3. Chicken suslick - marinated chicken with indian spices tenderly grilled in sticks. Each cube is accompanied with bell peppers. First time trying and felt that it tasted so much better than chicken tandoori.
Paulin's Munchies - 720 Bistro & The Toys at Holland Village - Chicken suslick

4. Butter chicken with garlic cheese naan - naan was average tasting but the butter chicken certainly sent us a whooo factor. Butter chicken sauce so thick and creamy and tasted so awesome with the naan combination.
