Started with our food exploration a little late this week as both of us are so tied up with work. Thus we decided to reward overselves with a yummy sushi tei meal since they have new items on their summer menu.

We ordered salmon cheese croquette and red spider roll from their summer menu. The salmon croquette was crispy on the outside and we could taste minced salmon in every bite we took.
Paulin's Munchies - Sushi Tei at JEM - Salmon Mentai Sushi

The red spider roll is actually sushi wrapped with soft shell crab and crabstick mayo on the top. Thumbs up!
Paulin's Munchies - Sushi Tei at JEM - Red Spider roll

Besides these 2 special summer dishes, we ordered our usual yasai miso soup, salmon mentai roll, hotate mentai and pork gyoza. If you notice, its all about mentai at sushi tei which they are very good at. Yummilicious!

Browsing around Chinatown, we decided to go for dim sum dinner this evening. We went to De Bao, a popular dim sum restaurant opposite Chinatown market. The restaurant was already crowded when we reached there at 6pm.

We got a seat outdoor as the aircon area was already full. The dishes ordered were siew mai, chicken feet, steam chicken mushroom, liu sha bao, century egg congee, egg tart, oyster sauce kailan, thai style beancurd and coconut redbean mochi.

Among these dishes, the must try are as follow: Oyster sauce kailan (expected to turn out hard but was soft and nice),  thai style beancurd (crispy on the outside and soft on the inside), coconut redbean mochi (tasted like onde onde but with redbean inside), and lastly siew mai (soft and juicy with the minced meat & prawn).

Service was ok but place a little warm if seated outdoors. We saw many trying their claypot dishes and decided to give them a try the next round.

As compared to Swee Choon De Bao could do better. Nevertheless we will be back to try others.

Back at Tiong Bahru Plaza, but this time is with hubby instead of buddy. Since the place has just been renovated, we are back to try out the rest of the restaurant along the food street on the 2nd floor.

We decided on Dolce Tokyo since they were having a National Day promo of 51% discount on the 2nd main course with lower price. Restaurant was rather crowded at 715pm. But fortunately we managef to get our table within 5 mins. Today's dinner menu were 1/2 roasted chicken with butter corn and fries, chicken & asparagus pasta and mushroom soup with puff pastry.

Portion was indeed generous. We were surprised by the 1/2 chicken portion. Chicken was well roasted and tender and it goes especially well with the tonkatsu sauce. Butter corns were juicy and fries nicely fried.

Overall, 2 thumbs up! Chicken & asparagus pasta was well done too. Sauce used was creamy tomato. The tomato gave a refreshing taste. Chicken well grilled.

Puff pastry mushroom soup was thick and delicious. After eating the main courses we were too full for any desserts.

Ramen Play at JEM is situated at the basement beside Imperial Treasure Restaurant. Thought the restaurant would have just served ramen as the restaurant name indicates but was wrong. They offer a wide variety of rice dishes as well.

For today, I decided to go for their popular sliced pork ramen. Tasty and tender stir fried pork with onion in teriyaki sauce on top of the ramen in rich broth soup.
Paulin's Munchies - Ramen Play at JEM - Sliced Pork Ramen

It was delicious and there was not a bit of porky taste. Hubby ordered their hotstone rice dish. It is with stir fried pork slices and eggs. The rice was their premium grade short grain rice which made the dish especially good. Its like the Japanese version of bibimbap.
Paulin's Munchies - Ramen Play at JEM - Butariki Ishinabe

Since the dishes were rather meaty, we ordered their chicken salad as a side. The self made mustard dressing was appetizing and could get rid of the greasy taste of the pork. Thumbs up!

Today's dinner is with my favourite buddy, Chew Li. It has been a long while since we went on a "date" together. Since we wanted to try somewhere nearer to office, we decided to go to the revamped Tiong Bahru Plaza.

Three Little Pigs Eatery is one of the restaurants along the new extension that attracted our attention. We were welcomed by friendly staff and showed to our seats. Looking through the menu on chopping boards, like what the restaurant's name, most of their recommended dishes are pork.

We ordered fried enoki mushrooms for starter, chicken laksa spaghetti and pork chop vermicelli. Super thumbs up given for their pork chop vermicelli! The pork chop was well marinated and tender. With the special sauce, it was super appetizing.

The laksa spaghetti was of a little disappointment. Nothing too special.

Fried enoki mushroom was well done as well. Batter was fragrant and crispy. For dessert, we decided to try their orh nee. The dish came with a pc of rice cracker and coconut sauce.
Paulin's Munchies - Three Little Pigs Eatery at Tiong Bahru Plaza - Orh Nee

We could taste the strong shallot taste in the orh nee but thought the texture was a little too gooey for our liking.

Nevertheless we will be back to try the other pork dishes as we are simply in love with the pigs!

Browsing through Eatigo for food deals, we decided to try Eat at Taipei which is offering 30% discount for dinner at 630pm. Sounds like a good deal to try. The restaurant is situated on the 3rd floor of Jcube and there weren't many customers at that time.

We tried 5 of their popular dishes, oyster intestine mee sua, braised pork rice, cai pu omelette, san bei ji and pork cabbage dumpling. Sounds like a lot for 2 pple and indeed it is.

The portions were generous! Among the dishes, the cai pu omelette, san bei ji and dumplings are a must try. Most pple would think cai pu omelette is salty but that's not the case for this dish here.

Balance with the right sweetness, the omelette dish is well done. The san bei ji is very tasty with the fried slices of ginger and dumplings were juicy and nice.

Jinghua Xiaochi has 27 yrs of history in their dumpling making. They started their first branch at Chinatown. Known for their xiao long bao and steamed dumplings, they opened a few more branches at bugis and palai ressaniance orchard.

We tried out their bugis branch today. The shop's interior design has a nostalgic modern touch. Much modernised as compared to their chinatown branch.

We ordered their popular steamed pork and seafood dumpling, beansprouts with minced meat, hot and sour soup and red bean pancake for dessert.

Steamed dumplings were soft and juicy. Goes especially well with the cut ginger and vinegar.

The hot and sour soup opens one appetite with its sourish taste.

The beansprouts with minced meat was a nice combi. The beansprouts was nicely boiled with no raw taste and yet retained its crunchiness.

Lastly came the red bean pancake. Simply mouthwatering...  The skin so nicely fried with oozing red bean paste. Simply awesome!

This is another cafe is opened by the owner of Eighteen Chef, Chef Benny. Located beside the taxi stand at Bugis, this cafe serves local delights with a twist of flavour. There are kaya toast set with focaccia or ciabatta, sandwiches with different filling like beef rendang, hae bee hiam and chee cheong fun with different toppings.

There are rice dishes too like nasi lemak and curry chicken bowl.
We decided to try their beef rendang chee cheong fun, hainanese chicken sandwich and a cup of teh-o.

The chee cheong fun portion was generous. It is served with a huge scoop of delicious beef rendang on top of soft and smooth chee cheong fun. Taste and combination is good.

For the sandwiches, one could choose the 4inch or 8inch. The hainanese chicken with chilli in crispy focaccia is another excellent combination.

In fact the teh-o tasted great at well.

We will definitely be back to try the other dishes like kaya toast, curry chicken bowl etc. No service charge or gst and its a place for frenz gathering with afforfable food.

Our first Korean meal since our trip back from Korea 3 weeks ago. It was raining continuously since afternoon and we longed for some hot piping soup to warm our body. The first thing that came into our mind was Korean kimchi soup or army stew!

We decided to drop by J-Story as they have value for money set meals. Hubby ordered kimchi ham and sausage soup with rice, fried saba and seafood pancake. The meals come with free flow of side condiments like kimchi and salad.

The kimchi wasn't fantastic and it's nothing close to those in chorea. The seafood pancake came first. Each slice was evenly distributed with ingredients and well fried.

It was tasty enough and there was no need for the sauce. The kimchi soup was hot and spicy, not lacking of ingredients as well. Every mouthful definitely warmed our tummy. Saba fish came last.

It was fried with slight batter and could taste the freshness of the fish. Overall food was quite value for money.

Curry Times, a restaurant managed by the same boss of Old Chang Kee, serves a wide range of nonya chinese dishes. Depending on the branch location, the menu variety changes. The branch at Westgate offers much more choices as compared to the one at ARC.

We managed to get a table within 15 mins of waiting. We were allowed to order our food first while waiting. We decided to try their rice dishes as they simply look delicious from the pictures.

I ordered curry fish fillet rice while hubby ordered sambal chicken rice.

Nonya chap chye was our vegetable dish to share and ended our dinner with a bowl of cold bobo chacha.
Paulin's Munchies - Curry Times at Westgate - Cold bo bo cha cha

The fish fillet is fresh and well fried. Crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. It goes especially well with homemade curry sauce. Mmmm...

The sambal chicken comes with sides like ah char and fried egg. The ah char tasted real good with the crunchy cucumber and peanut bits.

Paulin's Munchies - Curry Times at Westgate - Sambal Chicken rice

The chap chye is on the average. Tasty but nothing unusual. Bobo chacha wasn't too sweet but we felt it was a little too diluted. Nevertheless portion was generous.

Our last dim sum exploration was at Luk Yu teahouse during Mother's Day in May. It has been a month since then that we ate dim sum so had this sudden craving to eat liu sha bao and char siew su.
Hubby decided to take me to Crystal Jade Kitchen at Clementi Mall to satisfy my cravings.

Situated opposite Starbucks, Crystal Jade Kitchen serves dim sum and other chinese dishes. We ordered char siew su, liu sha bao, fried carrot cake, braised beancurd with vegetables and 1/2 roast chicken. We were so glad that they still had the char siew su coz it was written on the menu indicating till 5pm only.

The char siew su was buttery and savoury, with the flakes falling into pcs. Tasted so much better than those sold at their bakery shop.

The liu sha bao was equally shiok with the custard overflowing.

Next commendable dish was the roast chicken. It come with 5 different sauces. The skin was well roasted with meat so tender.

The carrot cake was well done as well. Softly panfried.

The braised beancurd on the other hand was a tad salty and could go well with a bowl of rice.

Food portion was generous and quite worth for its price. Another family restaurant to consider.
