Magic Kitchen is a family friendly little cafe located at Ang Mo Kio housing estate. This cosy family runned cafe is well liked and so popular among the residents here. It is actually a stone's throw away from the all popular Pine Garden bakery.

Orders are to be taken first at the cashier and an alphabet will be assigned to the customer while waiting for table to be arranged. This cafe opens from 8am to 2pm daily except on Tuesday where it is closed. Magic Kitchen offers a wide variety of thick toast, ranging from their all popular honey butter toast to savoury flavours like egg mayo and cheese tuna. Besides toast, the cafe also offer local delights like bee hoon, Soon kuehs, chee cheong fun and desserts and drinks. We were there after lunch hour and thus there weren't much crowd. Here's our order for today:

1. Fried beehoon ($2) - the beehoon was so fragrantly fried and very homely. Simply love the homely old school taste. A must try!! Rating: 4.5/5

2. Soon kueh ($0.70) - priced at only 70cents per pc, it was so soft and delicious. The turnip filling was just enough and all goes so well with the chilli and sweet sauce. Rating: 4.2/5

 3. Green bean soup ($1.80) - a bowl of delicious green bean soup so cooling and just right for the hot weather. Rating: 4/5

 4. Tuna cheese thick toast ($2.60) - 1 of their must try flavors other than their egg mayo. The tuna tasted a little like sardine. The toast was so soft on the centre and the crust toasted to perfection. Awesome thick toast to try!! Rating: 4.3/5

 5. Coffee - $1 for normal kopi and $1.80 for Irish creme coffee. Decent drinks.

Banchong cafe is a minimalist hipster white cafe located at Vanguard Campus Kallang Junction. Looking at the interior and alfresco dining concept, we would think that the cafe should be offering the usual English lattes and breakfast brunches. But on the contrary, it offers traditional food like kaya butter toast set and many other local food at very affordable prices.

Banchong is an open air concept cafe, with many power plug points available for one to chill and work at the same time. The cafe only opens on weekdays, from 8.30am to 6pm. We made our way down for brunch this morning and took us a 15mins walk from Lavender MRT. Ordering is done at the counter and food is to be collected after they call for your queue no. We ordered their popular and highly recommended kaya butter toast set ($4.50) and curry chicken with prata set ($6.80).
Kaya butter toast set - Banchong Cafe

1. Kaya butter toast set - the soft boil eggs are so runny and lovely. The yolks are huge and juicy and so fresh. Loving it!! The kaya is homemade, so custardy and not overly sweet. The bread is toasted to the right texture and crunch. The coffee is a little diluted and milky for my liking though. Rating: 4.2/5

2. Curry chicken with prata set - generous portion of chicken cooked in Nonya curry. Its rather spicy but it has a great lemongrass taste. The prata was ordinary, think it's the ready made kind from the supermarket. Rating: 3.8/5

Personally would highly recommend their toast set instead of their local food. We enjoyed the ambience but it can be quite warm on a sunny day. Do come down to give their toast a try on a weekday if possible!

Located in the quiet Grantral Mall at Clementi, K Toast is opened by a humble middle-aged Korean man who puts in great effort in making the toast. The toasts looked very much like those sold at Issac Toast but at a more affordable price.
K Toast at Grantral Mall Clementi - Paulin's Munchies

There are few seats along the walkway opposite the shop for dine-in customers. Fortunately there wasn't much crowd on a Sat morning. Their highly recommended toast will be their hot bulgoggi/bulgoggi toast and chicken toast, both priced at $4.90 each.

Chicken toast - K Toast

The hot bulgoggi/bulgoggi comprises of a slice of juicy beef patty topped with sauce, pickles, egg, cheese and shredded cabbage. The toast are panfried with butter as well. The chicken toast is the same except for the patty.

One bite into the toast sent the sauce oozing out from the toast. We personally felt that there wasn't much buttery taste on the toast and a little too saucy which made the sandwich too sweet. We are more inclined towards Issac in terms of taste. Probably the toast originally tasted better with the owner's skill but now the shop has been tended out to 2 young students to handle.

Though their toasts wasn't as good, we must give praise to their coffee. Their Americano and latte deserves 2 thumbs up with pricing at $2.50 and $3.20. Its very fragrant yet not overly roasted.

Overall, for an affordable toast for breakfast, K Toast is definitely a place to try. Hopefully they are able to attract more crowd.

After Say Chiizu, Kuma Cheese Toast from JB is the next upcoming cheese toast stall in SG. Sharing the same stall as Original Cake Shop, Kuma cheese toast attracted many of the young with its bright orange cute bear cover. There are 4 flavours in total: original, matcha, chocolate and rainbow.

We went for there for their rainbow cheese ($6.90). The toast is ready made with the rainbow cheese in between. The baker will just spread the margarine on the toast and put them on the hotplate.

Unlike Say Chiizu, the margarine taste is very strong and cheese tad salty. It would be good to share with its big portion unlike the small pc from Say Chiizu. In terms of toast control, Kuma seems to have lost it as some of the toasts are burnt. Say Chiizu would be preferred over Kuma in terms of taste and quality.
