Situated in ITE West at Choa Chu Kang, Choon Seng Hng has been a popular restaurant for both students and families. ITE students, after their ECAs, would visit this restaurant to settle their dinner. Big families also come here to enjoy the food in comfort.
Kevin's uncle and cousin from AU are here in SG for a holiday, thus my father in law brought us all to this restaurant for family dinner. Here are some recommended dishes to order:
1. Fried sweet potato leaves - unlike other restaurants where they will just fry them in chilli, the leaves are fried with dried shrimps which gives it a very fragrant flavour.
2. Fried chicken with thai mango sauce - one whole chicken crisply fried while maintaining its tenderness and topped with appetizing sweet and sour Thai sauce. Fresh mango slices are added to the top as well.
3. Braised pork knuckles- the knuckles are beautifully braised in thick sauce with mushrooms and snow peas. The meat and tendons are so soft that they just fall apart and melts in your mouth.
4. Steam soon hock in HK style - a commendable part will be the thinly shredded ginger deep fried and topped as garnish. Awesome!
5. Ngoh hiang - slightly different from the usual. Their Ngoh hiang is soft and mixed with minced fish meat.
6. Fried tofu in pumpkin sauce - Homemade tofu deep fried and laid on top of pumpkin sauce. It has a little curry taste to it so that it is not too sweet.
7. Fried spinach with mushroom - nothing too special to comment on.
Overall we definitely enjoyed this meal. The only lacking part is that food is served rather slowly, so do come early to avoid the usual crowd.
