Tunglok Tea House at Novena Square 2 has adopted a new and modern dim sum and food concept where by dishes are delivered to the individual customer table via conveyor belts. This concept is not new to sushi restaurant but definitely something new for a dim sum restaurant.
Food is ordered through their electronic tablet and dishes are served readily on the trays on the belt to your table. Customers will just need to press the blinking button to return the tray. We ordered a mixture of dim sum and ala-carte dishes for dinner today, starting with the following:
1. Mini piglet bbq pork buns ($5.80) - cute piping hot piglet buns with bbq pork filling. I personally do not like it as the filling was sweet and sticky. Rating: 3.2/5
2. Teahouse signature rice rolls ($7.80) - freshly and thinly made rice rolls with shrimps and fried mesh crisp as filling. Tasted good and will recommend it to try. Rating: 3.9/5
3. Deep fried yam puffs ($5.30) - nothing special. Just fried yam puffs with char siew filling. Don't taste much of the yam. Rating: 3.2/5
4. Siew mai ($5.80) - one of the more decent dim sum. The prawn pcs were fresh and crunchy. Rating: 3.6/5
5. Curry chicken noodles ($8) - love this dish best. No ghee taste in the yellow noodles and gravy was thick enough. Rating: 3.9/5
6. Kurobuta char siew ($15) - black pig char siew with bbq sauce. A little fatty but roasted quite well and do not have the porky taste. Rating: 3.8/5
7. French beans with shrimps ($12) - fried long french beans with dried shrimps and bonito flakes. Crunchy and tasty. Rating: 3.9/5
Overall, despite the new concept, Tunglok Teahouse food standard seems to have dropped a little. Maybe the branch at Far East Square would be better. Hopefully their food standard can keep up with the overhaul of the restaurant.
A summary of what we had:
