Ming Chung, since 1933, has been a very popular restaurant for its Heng Hua cuisine. Many customers will flock here for their all-time favorite Putien Lor Mee.
At 6:15pm, there was already a queue building up. But we were glad that we were shown to our seats within 15mins. Ordering is self-served and with the 5 of us, we managed to try many of their recommended dishes. Large size serves 4 to 5 people
1. Fried beehoon ($12) - very fine rice vermicilli fried fragrantly with seafood and spring onions. Goes so well with the chili sauce and green chili. Rating: 4/5
2. Lor mee ($12) - a must order dish. Lovely putien lor mee with lots of seafood. The starchiness and taste of the gravy is just right. Rating: 4.2/5
3. Fried tanghoon ($12) - tanghoon fried in black sauce. It’s the same ingredients used across all staples. Rating: 4/5
4. Sweet and sour fish slices ($18) - not the best and thought that the batang fish was a little fishy. Rating: 3.5/5
5. Pork ribs with bitter gourd ($18) - nicely braised black bean sauce with bitter gourd slices and nicely chopped pork ribs. Another must order dish. Rating: 4/5
6. Sambal kangkong ($16) - very fragrantly fried kangkong with homemade sambal. Very well done in terms of taste. Rating: 4.2/5
7. Stir fried kailan with beancurd skin ($14) - a little bland in taste. Had to go with lots of chilli. Rating: 3.5/5
8. Prawn roll ($22) - rather pricey and was a little mushy in texture. Not the best. Rating: 3.8/5
9. Fried Chicken Wings.
Overall, Ming Chung serves a great family restaurant for Heng Hua cuisine.
