Hai Kee Brothers is now taken care of by their 3rd generation hawkers James and Joesph. With the ever changing customer demand, Hai Kee now offers many other dishes other than their popular known soy sauce chicken and roasted meat.
It wasn't too crowded today on a Sat evening around 6pm. Self ordering is done on paper and dishes were promptly served within 10mins. We ordered 4 of their recommended dishes:
1. Twin platter ($10.80) - chose a combination of char siew and soy sauce chicken. The meat was disappointing. The char siew was a little tough and dry and so was the chicken. Portion is small. Rating: 3/5
2. Lor mee ($8.80) - we ordered with their special meat roll which looked like fish fillet when served. The lor mee was less starchy as compared to the usual. Ingredients were generous with roasted pork and eggs. The yellow noodles had no ghee taste which was great! Rating: 3.8/5
3. XO fried carrot cake ($7.90) - fragrently fried but texture was a little mushy. Not the best tasting fried carrot cake. Rating: 3.5/5
4. Tomato egg ($7.90) - egg was a little hard instead of softly scrambled with tomatoes. Taste was still fine. Rating: 3.5/5
Despite many recommended reviews, we personally felt a little disappointed as the food seemed not to have met our expectations, especially for the roasted meat.
A summary of what we had:
Twin platter
Lor mee
XO fried carrot cake
Tomato egg
My overall ratings:
Food: 3.4/5
Price: 3.2/5
Service: 3.8/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
