Located at level one of JCube, Ayam Penyet President took over the previous Sakae in April 2017. As the restaurant is named, it is popular for its ayam penyet and other Indonesian dishes.
The restaurant isn't very big and could seat up to 30 people. Ordering of food is self service and has to be paid first at the cashier upon ordering. We ordered 4 dishes in total and 1 rice. Here's the list:
1. Tahu Telor ($6.50) - deep fried egg beancurd with thick peanut sauce. Though the tofu was fluffy, it was cold. The peanut gravy was flat and was rather disappointing. Usually the egg beancurd would have been hot but this was like a cold dish. Rating: 2.5/5
2. Grilled chicken ($6.90) - well marinated tender chicken thigh in dark gravy sauce. The fried bean (tempe) was burnt. Given the chicken alone, it still tasted good. Rating: 3/5
3. Beef Rendang ($7.90) - small beef cubes in deep rendang sauce. This was the best dish of all and gravy goes well with rice despite the beef was a little tough. Rating: 3.2/5
4. Sambal kangkong ($5.50) - another disappointing dish. The sambal wasn't fragrant and vegetables tasted plain. Rating: 2.5/5
5. Yellow fragrant rice ($2.20) - we didn't taste its fragrance. There was no tumeric taste and rice was overwhelmed with gravy taste. Rating: 2.5/5
Customers are entitled free soup and chilli near the kitchen counter.
Food was served slowly and we had to wait for 20mins before it was served. Hopefully food service could be improved in near future to attract more customers going back to the restaurant.
