Lao Huo Tang is a new restaurant opened at the ground level of Star Vista. It is located opposite the small coconut ice cream stall KoKo.
As the name spells for itself, this restaurant featured dishes are the various double boiled soups in big pots. This branch offers all day dim sum as well. Since the soup dish was a must, we ordered their apple pear pork rib soup to try. The soup was clear yet very sweet. With all the natural ingredients double boiled in the pot for so long, it was no doubt that the soup is so sweet. The tender pork ribs with lots of tendons were delicious. Rating: 4.2/5
Besides the soup, we ordered their handmade crispy tofu. Handmade tofu fried on the outside to golden brown and doused with thick eggy gravy with minced pork and mushrooms. A great dish to go with rice. Rating: 4.2/5
The spring chicken on the other hand wasn't too tasty. The skin was crispy with meat tender, but there wasn't much taste to the chicken. Rating: 3.5/5
We ordered 2 dim sum dishes in addition to the mains we had. Salted egg custard buns and steam chicken roll. For the buns, the filling was tasty and delicious but a tad too watery. The skin was also quite thick. Rating: 3.8/5
The steam chicken roll deserved 2 thumbs up. Thick juicy chicken wrapped with yam and mushrooms in beancurd skin. Tasted so delicious. Rating: 4.2/5
For a hearty and delicious chinese meal, one could definitely visit this branch at Star Vista. We would definitely be back to try the rest.
