Tamago-En is another subsidiary group under the same chain as Aburi-En,
Kiwami Ramen and Gyoza. Their first outlet was at Nex and they soon opened 2
more at Novena Square and Tampines Mall.
As the restaurant name suggest, its all about eggs. Tamago-En uses the
freshest eggs imported from Okinawa whereby the egg is uniquely golden
orange and they are so fresh that we could eat it raw.
We were at their Novena Square outlet to enjoy their variety of egg/chicken
dishes ranging from sides to dons.
1. Chicken nanban with homemade egg mayonnaise ($8.80) - 5 pcs of
jucily fried chicken karaage drizzled with vinegar and accompanied with egg
mayo dip. The karaage batter was very good, crispy and tasty and with the
egg mayonnaise dip, it was an awesome combi. Rating: 4/5
2. Poached egg with classic caesar salad ($10.90) - a generous
portion of salad with croutons, bacon bits and caesar dressing. The poached
egg was good but a little overdone. Rating: 3.8/5
3. Chicken katsu don with egg ($13.90) - a very huge pc of chicken
katsu with egg and onion on rice. Portion could be easily shared among 2
persons. The katsu was very fresh but a little too thick for our liking.
Rating: 3.6/5
4. Chicken stew with rice and omelette ($13.90) - this rice dish is a
must try. The demi-glazed sauce was flavourful and with the fluffy omelette
and butter rice, its an awesome combi!! Rating: 4/5
We are overall quite please with the dishes at Tamago-En and its definitely
a place that could be explored for a decent Japanese eggy meal.
