A few weeks ago, I was blogging on Station 51 at Boat Quay and was so attracted by Korean fried chicken restaurant just beside it opened by authentic Koreans. So happy that we gotta go there to try this restaurant today, Oven & Beer.
We opted for their outdoor alfresco dining facing the cooling Singapore River. We were served by friendly Korean staff who brought us free sides like kimchi, white radish and prawn crackers. The crackers were oily and not too much to our liking but we love their kimchi and crunchy radish.
We ordered 3 main dishes:
1. Original whole fried chicken ($34.80) - crispy tender fried chicken done in authentic korean style. The batter was thin and meat tender. Some of us find the skin a little plain but we as we ate along, it became more and more flavorful. Rating: 3.9/5
2. Kimchi Jigae ($38.80) - a huge pot of awesome kimchi stew with lots of rice cake, kimchi and noodles in it. The stew was so flavourful and thick and we love the soup that offers free refill. Awesome soup on a cold day especially. Rating: 4.3/5
3. Seafood pancake ($26.80) - our last dish. Thinly fried seafood pancake with loads of spring onions and accompanied with chilli and soya sauce. Very fragrantly fried which was awesome. Rating: 4.2/5
Overall, the food was good and served as a great place for friends gathering. And it is to be commented that the service was awesome and attentive. I accidentally scalded myself and all these were observed by the shop owner. He gotten me a pack of ice immediately to cool the burn. O chicken & beer could really be considered for large frenz gathering.
